Zil on multiple usb keys
This might be a stupid question, but here goes... Would adding, say, 4 4 or 8gb usb keys as a zil make enough of a difference for writes on an iscsi shared vol? I am finding reads are not too bad (40is mb/s over gige on 2 500gb drives stripped) but writes top out at about 10 and drop a lot lower... If I where to add a couple usb keys for zil, would it make a difference? Thanks. Sent from a

Building an On-Site and Off-Size ZFS server, replication question
Good morning. I am in the process of planning a system which will have 2 ZFS servers, one on site, one off site. The on site server will be used by workstations and servers in house, and most of that will stay in house. There will, however, be data i want backed up somewhere else, which is where the offsite server comes in... This server will be sitting in a Data Center and will have some storage

Re: RedHat 5.X Security Book
Somebody wrote: >>> The only thing I can see coming out of a "checklist" security setup >>> is a false sense of security. Depends on how you use it. For me, a checklist is a starting point -- an outline of what I need to know about. For others, a checklist is a labor-saving device. And some might use it both ways. a little help needed plotting chron object
Hello there, Using R 2.4.0 on Solaris (Unix): I am trying to control the X axis range on a simple time of day plot. I made a test program (below) that gets file time stamp information from the files in the directory where R starts. The goal of the test program is to plot the time of day of file creation on an x axis that spans a user-specified range (like 12:00:00 to 15:00:00). If I allow

Dedicated server running ESXi with no RAID card, ZFS for storage?
Morning all... I have a Dedicated server in a data center in Germany, and it has 2 3TB drives, but only software RAID. I have got them to install VMWare ESXi and so far everything is going ok... I have the 2 drives as standard data stores... But i am paranoid... So, i installed Nexenta as a VM, gave it a small disk to boot off and 2 1Tb disks on separate physical drives... I have created a

Samba locking database errors : V 2.2.8 a on HP-UX 11i
We are in the process of commissioning a new HP server (on HP-UX 11i) and have installed Samba which we have configured and used extensively before without major problems (though not this version - 2.2.8.a). Samba ran OK initially, but now we are getting failures with messages of 'smbd[pid] Cannot initialize locking database' and 'no locks available' logged to the syslog and no new

SVE/SVE2 LLVM sync-up calls
Hi all, Several people have expressed interest in having regular sync-up calls to follow the progress of ARM SVE/SVE2 support in LLVM. With this effort picking up steam and multiple people contributing patches, regular sync-up calls would provide a platform to coordinate our efforts. Items to discuss in these sync-up calls would include: - SVE/SVE2 CodeGen support - Adding support for C/C++

A new logo for HDT
Hey, The HDT project is more and more active and tend to bring new releases as often as possible. We are on a good track for releasing HDT 0.3.5 in a few days. Beside of that, we are trying to give this project a dedicated identity. The first step is having a 'cool' logo that represent HDT. This work will lead to - give some shine on our website (http://hdt-project.org) ;) - a

AWS OpsWorks announcement using Chef
I wonder if PuppetLabs will work with Amazon to try to add Puppet as an option to OpsWorks as well ? I don''t think people using Puppet with AWS in a stable fashion would try to move to OpsWorks and migrate everything to Chef, but new customers/startups would think twice in choosing Puppet if the service offered in AWS OpsWorks is based on Chef. I haven''t tried OpsWorks yet,
