Veto files option not working
We're getting very close now to having our RH6.1 server as we want it. Just a few anoying things left to iron out so we can trial it properly prior to going live. One of them is the "veto files" option in smb.conf. We want to stop users on Win95 clients from seeing (or deleting) the dot-files in their home shares. I've tried the above option, I've tried "hide dot

Samba on RedHat 6.1
We're trying to get samba running on a RH 6.1 server installation, runnijng as a trial. So far we can only see the server on 2 NT 4/SP4 workstations and not on the Windows 95 clients, and then only if we do a Start/Find/Computers. I can map a drive to a share, and can reconnect to it after rebooting the NT workstation, but can't see the server in Network Neighborhood. TCP/IP is

Group logon Scripts
We're almost at the stage of rolling out our new RH6.1/Samba server - one last item. We have some 60 users and 7 departments. Can I use/how do I use a logon script to log groups onto the server. I currently have 1 logon script per user, but a small change in 1 share means updating every script. Can I log them on by group ID but still map their personal shares with the %U flag so I then

RH6.1 Group access for shares
I've set up a samba 2.0.5a / RedHat 6.1 file server. It's all going fine, but for a minor issue that is irritating rather than critical. I have directories for each dept, and then sub-dirs for users, with a dept share dir in each dept dir. I can set the valid users to individual users for the shared directories but some of the depts have 25 - 30 people and so I'd like to use groups

Samba 2.0.5a on RH 6.1 Server Setup
My thanks to those who've helped me in the last few days. I've had some big breakthroughs and may now be able to help one or two others. My next task is to set up Samba to log users into their shares on a mapped drive that will be commonto all machines - eg. h:\. So I have 4 user shares, and a common IT share that we can all use. It works fine on my NT4 machine and logs me in on

NT4 Workstation to Samba domain problem
We have a small problem - again - only with NT4 workstation now. We are moving into the first phase of rollout of our samba server, but need to go over to a domain setup from a workgroup. If I change from a workgroup to domain name, I get a message box that says: " Unable to connect to the domain controller for this domain. Have your administrator check your computer account on the

Can't get into share
It appears I have things set up. Linux (RH6.1) box is running samba and I'm trying to access shares from my 98 box. >From Network Neighborhood I can see the linux bo listed with the other LAN boxes. If I d-click to open the smb box, I DO get a folder withthe share name in explorer. Then, if I try to open that folder (share) it asks for a password for resource \\MACHINE\SHARE I enter my

starting smb services at bootup on x86 RH6.1
I am running RH6.1 on an x86 with 2.0.6 installed with an RPM. I am confused as to getting smb to start at bootup. It works fine if I start it manually (/etc/rc.d/init.d/smb start). I swear, the 5.2 installation had smb start at bootup, but I can't find the difference between the two. Is the answer 1 - edit the /etc/inetd.conf file (swat needed a line uncommented) 2 - edit the

Password Login Failing... (Not sure this went through)
Appologise if this did make it to the list but I just subscribed and didn't see it come back... I am attmepting to install ssh/sshd on my RH6.1 Intel Box. Everything seems to be working (not quite smooth sailing - I had to resort to precompiled RPM for OpenSSL). I did however get it "working." I generated a host key as root and then changed back to joe-user. I created a key for

smbd died - why?
Hi out there... We just had a hub go down in spectacular fashion - lots of smoke, VERY bad smell, no network connection, melted plastic - very exciting stuff on a dull afternoon! But - it took out the smbd daemon and all those processes running from the affected PC's with it. Why would it do that? I couldn't get the smbd to start either by "killall -HUP inetd" or by

SAMBA eats up all memory...
Hello, I am running SAMBA 2.0.7.0 on AIX 4.3.3.0 I have a 1 Tera Byte filesystem on AIX made available to NT and MAC. There is heavy IO activity on this filesystem and all of a sudden the NT's and MAC's can't read or write any file on this shared filesystem. Also AIX is running out of memory whenever this happens and files cannot be copied onto the said filesystem even at unix

smbmount questions
Howdy all: I'm trying to use smbmount to mount a win9x share and copy some files for backup, eventually to run as a script invoked via cron. I have RH6.1/samba 2.0.5a, and the windoze box is win95b. If I do the standard mount (smbmount //winbox/backup /mnt/smb04) I have to be root. Also, after it's mounted, I can't create any files there as a normal user (even though the

*** BUG? ***
Hi! I've installed RedHat 6.1 on a Pentium 233. I'm using samba 2.0.5a which came with RH6.1. On another PC (Pentiun-II 400) I've installed Windows NT 4.0. These two PC's are connected to the same network. I've configured Samba to share the home directories on the Linux System. I'm able to reach my own homedir from NT. Within NT I've assigned this share to drive L.
