Using ldap for permissions/authenication
Hi all: I am currently using Active Directories (via openldap client) to authenicate my linux clients and would like to have samba use AD (ldap - not winbind) as well. I really haven't seen any documentation on how to implement, however. Does anyone have any information regarding ldap and samba (redhat rpm)? Thanks! One of the SOLUTIONS for winbind authenication failures with STATUS_BUFFER_OVERFLOW
I had this problem and I could not find the solution on Usenet that's why I'm posting - maybe somebody more fortunate won't have to spend hours and hours to fix this. Problem: successfully joined Samba to Windows AD. wbinfo -g and wbinfo -u worked fine, wbinfo -t did not: # wbinfo -t checking the trust secret via RPC calls failed error code was STATUS_BUFFER_OVERFLOW

SIP Authenication (Simple, Digest, ACL)
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello, I have been successful in getting Digest authentication to work with my Mitel 5055 IP Phones, however I'm wondering if Asterisk still supports Simple authentication? I know it has been depreciated in the RFC, but I have some phones with don't support Digest. Or how about an ACL? PB -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.5

question NIS password authenication
Fellow Samba Folks, I am trying to setup Samba version 2.2.8a. I would like to authenticate the users with their NIS password and not use a smbpasswd file on the Samba Server. I also want to use the encrypt password feature. The clients will be using XP or Win2K os. Is this possible or do I have to find a Windows Domain Server. Thanks Rob Kennedy EDS UNIX MC/R&D 586 986-8175

Samba authenication to Window Active Directory
Has any version of Samba been tested for compatibility with the new Windows Active Directory? We will be upgrading our NT domain to 2000 and creating Active Directory. Currently our solaris samba 2.0.7 server is configured to authenicate users from our NT domain controllers. Will we encounter problems with the 2000 upgrade? Thanks in advance, Cynthia --------------------------------- Do You

OT Proftpd stopped authenication for users
For some reason proftpd stopped authentication for users. Anonymous access still works but when someone tries to access the server via their login it no longer authenticates them. I recently ran yum where proftpd was updated (that said, I'm not sure that caused the problem). I uninstalled the new version and and installed a prior version with no change. Below is a look at my config, a

Help Samba Virtual Servers (Host aliases) configuration problem
Hi, I need to create one or more NetBIOS host alias of my unique SAMBA server version 2.27 which is running on a RedHat Linux 8.0 box acting as a simple file-sharing machine for our WORKGROUP. I need that my clients see three differents host more than the real fileserver; I think the scope of virtual server was based on which virtual host I'll contact I'll see the relative share: so

Two WINS servers on different subnets
Hi If I connect two LANs (on different subnets) and want to use windows filesharing, I need a WINS server right? Can I have one server on both subnets and make them "talk to each other" ? The problem is that the two networks are connected through a VPN tunnel and I don't want to place a WINS server on just one of them in case the VPN tunnel is lost. I want the subnets to work

Update Samba
Hi, Newbie question: I've installed samba_2.2.5 and it works great, got winbind working have convinced boss types that it's a viable alternative to Windows for some filesharing, however I originally did the configure and make without specifying smbmount be included in the build but with some other options, inlcude winbind and pam. If I run ./configure --with-smbmount and do a make etc.

I think I'll never really understand codepages stuff. smbd is v 3.0.1, client is french win98 - yuk my smb.conf reads: unix charset = UTF-8 display charset = UTF-8 dos charset = CP850 when I create a folder/file with accents in it, I can create it ok, but reading proves impossible. If i create file ??????, it shows ok in the file explorer

WIN 98 password problem
Hi! I'm new on the list, so please, be patient with me! I have a problem for wich I can't find the answer in the FAQ. Until recently I was running a 16 PC-s network with SCO OpenServer 5.0.4 and Samba 1.9.16p11 on the server and mixed clients (Win 3.11 to Win 95 OSR2). The users on the network have access to a PUBLIC directory on they own user directories on the server without

file locking question
Hi all, If I have a linux server running samba for filesharing and I use NFS to make these shares available on another linux server that also runs samba to share the same shares will the locking still work properly? I can use this to get around an issue with multiple authentication domains and I suspect NFS is less chatty than SMB anyway so will mean a peformance win as well across the WAN. Can

Samba and different IPs
Hello, is it possible to configure Shorewall for different network environments? I am using it on a single Linux computer. When I am at home, I am using an internal IP address (192.168.0.X), and when I am using my cable modem, I get an internet IP assigned. I now want to be able to use Samba/Windows Filesharing when at home and to disable it when I am using my computer directly on the net.
