VMware hostonly networking
I already wrote some lines about vmware with hostonly mode networking in
SAMBA digest 2339
(as far as samba is concerned).

Vmware to KVM - possible?
Is it possible to convert a VMWare image to KVM?
As I have been building a few test machines on Vmware Fusion and would like
to migrate some to a KVM server.
Thanks in advance.

kvm/vmware side-by-side?
http://libvirt.org/drvvmware.html says "The libvirt VMware driver should be able to manage any Workstation, Player, Fusion version supported by the VMware VIX API."
1. Does this mean it supports the vmware hypervisor, or just that it understands the disk images and perhaps other cotnrol file info?
2. If it supports the hypervisor, does this mean that kvm and vmware hypervisors can be

asterisk still tries native bridging
Hello,
I've problems with following -
----- --- ---
PSTN | --- isdn --- | A | ----- iax2 ------ | B |
----- --- ---
On [B], there is unconditional call forwarding set back via [A]
(dialparties.agi is used) to PSTN.
So, call from PSTN is routed via [A] to [B] and than back again into
PSTN.

making me crazy.
I use XP on an ADSL connection. PPPoE IP is assigned dinamically. Eth0
IP can be assigned dinamically or statical *tried both*
RedHat 8.0 is the guest, XP service pack 1 is the host. I also uses
sygate firewall on XP *but i set allow all for testing*
Linux routes via NAT and it works fine (even DNS

Rout looping through local host.
After many many hours of frustration and failures I''m almost to the
point that I don''t think this is even currently possible with Linux.
With out going in to too much detail, I am effectively wanting to do the
following.
I want to be able to take traffic in from a local LAN on eth0 and route
it out eth1 to a default gateway with a static IP. I want said default
gateway

vmware, host-only network can't browse??
Server: Linux 2.2.10
samba-2.0.5a-1 (rpm)
Client: Win98 inside vmware1.0.2 using hostonly networking.
Problem: 'Unable to browse the network'
I have worked my way through the tests in DIAGNOSIS.txt, and all
tests pass. If I run Test 9 "net use x: \\BIGSERVER\TMP" from a MS-DOS
prompt, then I can see my linux /tmp directory in x:.
BUT if I just log in to Windows

[Bridge] Man-in-the-middle scenario within vmware - problem
Hi there,
I'm trying to set up a man-in-the-middle scenario within a VMWare Workstation
team, using brctl. What I want is the following:
PC1 eth0 >---LAN-segment-1---< eth0 PCMITM eth1 >---LAN-segment-2---< eth0 PC2
Now I did the following on PCMITM (PC man in the middle):
ifconfig eth0 down
ifconfig eth1 down
brctl addbr lnxbr0
brctl addif lnxbr0 eth0
brctl addif lnxbr0 eth1

Unstable VMware 1.0.5 host after 4.7 upgrade
After upgrading to 4.7 x86_64 on all our boxes (from 4.6), we have 3
VMware Server 1.0.5 hosts that are unstable. Sometimes they
spontaneously reboot, other times they freeze and require a hard
reset. Under 4.6, they were rock solid.
Failures tend to be associated with a guest start-up event, but are
often at random times as well. There is no useful evidence in either
the vmware or messages log

Vmware guest can''t connect to puppetmaster on host
My setup is as follows:
I am running Vmware Server on Ubuntu Feisty. This is the puppetmaster.
I am running a guest of Ubuntu Gutsy. This is the puppet.
When I try to run puppetd on the guest I get the expected message
"notice: Did not recieve certificate"
Going back to the server and running "puppetca --list" does not list any
requests. As a hunch I telneted the hosts

connecting vmware through tinc on host system (linux)
Hello,
i'm using a debian etch box (2.6.18-5-686) with tinc 1.0.5 for
connecting to my office LAN.
On the same box there's a vmware virtual machine running (Windows 2k).
Now i'd like to connect this virtual machine through the VPN, too.
All my attempts did fail...
The virtual machine runs with a "host only" network (vmnet1). On the
linux side i tried to configure NAT

[PATCH] core: Allow pasting from a VMware host by typing Ctrl-P
When Syslinux is running in a VMWare virtual machine and Ctrl-P
is typed while editing the boot command line, insert the contents
of VMware's clipboard. This allows text to be copied from the
host (or wherever the console client is running) into Syslinux.

Trouble connecting to CentOS 5.0 host sound device from Windows guest on VMWare Workstation 5.5.4
I am running VMWare Workstation 5.5.4 on a CentOS 5.0 host
(2.6.18-8.1.4 kernel) and I have been haiving some trouble with my
sound device on the Guest Windows XP SP2 OS. When I first had trouble
under CentOS 4.4, WS 5.5.3, it was usually when the sound device on
the host was actually busy. However, now I can't use the sound device
at all - I keep getting this error: "Failed to open sound

I have my machine configured to run VMWare Server with a NAT ethernet

get access to my host drives from my Windows on VMWare guest. Here's my

VMWare; WinXP guest can browse every machine except host Debian, and vice versa
The setup:
My VMWare host is Debian 2.4.24, and runs Samba 3.0.2a-Debian,
on fixed IP address 10.0.0.9. Other computers can see and use
services on this server. Samba is browse master and domain master
browser for the workgroup. An external host runs dnscache and
a tinydns for the local domain.
VMWare is 3.2.0 build-2230, configured with bridged networking
only (though I previously tried both
