SOLVED: Samba + e2compr + Linux == problems
Semms that I've confirmed that all of my problems with Samba arised because of e2compr. After describing my problem to Alan, I've done what I proposed myself last saturday: I've turned off compression in my home directory and tried to save the file several times without modifications, exactly in the same way I've done to reproduce the problem. Et voil?! I could save the file

Script for removing stale sessions: version for RH6.0? [Offtopic?]
Hello, people at SAMBA list. I'm going thru the same problem that Nicholas Williams has described in samba-list first (see references below), and I'm implementing the solution you've decribed in the list (SO_KEEPALIVE, etc). But I'm stuck with the script issue, as I run RedHat Linux 6.0 which doesn't use ksh but pdksh instead. The ksh script doesn't run in pdksh

User's smbd processes don't get killed
Hi, all. Last saturday, we've done a cutover for Samba 2.0.5a to be our new fileserver. All is going well, except for two network users that make me reboot the server. What happens is as follows: * user logs on onto samba server; * user opens and closes files, etc, OK until in one of these operations his/her machine hangs; * user reboots his/her machine to log on again. In this

Change Ruby on Rails' reserved words?
Hi, One of my database tables has to have the same name as a reserved word in Ruby on Rails. Is there a way to change the name of a Ruby on Rails reserved word by overloading it or by some other means? I really do not want to change my table name. Thank you. -Nick J. Active Directory LDAP userdb and dovecot
Hello everybody, I have a problem with LDAP userdb and dovecot. Let me first explain my LDAP configuration: I got three Active Directory LDAP servers (a.galliera.it, b.galliera.it, c.galliera.it) responding round robin to the name galliera.it. I want to use LDAP for the userdb lookup, so I configured dovecot-ldap-userdb.conf.ext as follow: hosts = galliera.it # round robin base =

35 second wait when cache expired
Hello, I've got an issue with RHEL6 running smbd & winbindd version 3.6.9-168.el6_5. This is authenticating against a Windows 2008R2 domain using the rid backend. If I run any command that has to look up user info I get a 35 second delay, after this initial delay it's fine until the cache time-out, then it happens again. This is making logins and most commands hang for 35 seconds

ADS Authentication - CLDAP request failed
I have a RHEL 5 system, with Samba 3.0.33 installed, that _used_ to authenticate against the corporate Active Directory system without any problems. However, about a month ago the connection broke, but the users didn't complain until some time went buy. I've spent quite a few hours trying to reconnect this system, but nothing works. I do not believe it is a simple configuration problem,

samba-2.2.3a and openldap
dear list, I have some problems with samba-2.2.3a and openldap-support. Password changing with smbpasswd -a <username> is working properly. (Username is an existant user who can either be stored in a regularly /etc/passwd file or in another nsswitch-compatible service like ldap. In this case the username is an ldap user.) Password is changed automatically in the directory server. Pretty

Samba causing problems with NT tools
Samba is causing a couple huge problems for the NT admins here since we switched a bunch of machines to security=server and started running nmbd. We're running Samba 2.0.2 and 2.0.3 on a mix of Solaris, HP-UX, and OSF1 machines. One, selecting a Samba server in Server Manager, then selecting Computer/ Services causes Server Manager to crash ("An application error has occurred, blah blah,

MACHINE.SID - what if I delete it
Hello, I'm doing all sorts of testing with samba 2.0.6 and NT wks domain logons. It is just a test environment, and since deleting and recreating the /etc/MACHINE.SID file nothing is working. If a person deletes that file, what has to be done to get NT wks domain logons to work again? Delete and recreate the machine names in passwd and smbpasswd? Delete and recreate the NT usernames in

Cross Subnet WINS?
But the win wks on the other subnet is configured to use my SAMBASERVER as its WINS SERVER, and it is configured using the IP Adress of the SAMBASERVER and not the name. Shouldn't this do the trick? win wks is on a wireless subnet and hence runs at 11 MBPS, while the SAMBASERVER is on a wired subnet. I read somewhere that windows does some kind of "optimization" with slow networks.
