Network Neighborhood Connectivity to Internet SMB Servers
Is it possible for a Windows 9x Client to specify and connect to SMB Servers on the public internet? If this is so how is it accomplished? ______________________________________________________________________ __________ InterNetWorkingSolutions Your home for Business and Personal Computing Solutions http://webpageweaver.com PO Box 152 Cabot, VT 05647 USA TEL: 888.726.9030 FAX: 888.726.9030

Questions on connecting to AppleShare IP via Samba
Dear Support: We have several Solaris 7 computers that need to be able to mount an AppleShare IP server to their filemanagers. Since AppleShare IP support SMB, I think that this is the best way to get these computers talking to each other. To that end, I've tried to use SMB to network the two computers. The Appleshare IP has two NICs connected to two different networks: One is Macintosh

Appleshare IP 6.2 and smbfs
Hi, I'm having trouble connecting to an Appleshare IP 6.2 Mac that is doing SMB file sharing from my RedHat Linux 7.2 box. I've looked and looked and looked at many things and many SMB clients. I've tried smbclient, smbmount, Sharity, and even just doing a mount -t smbfs. All of them come back with something of this form: Protocol Negotiation Failed SMB connection failed. I

Massive confusion with samba mounting
Hi, I have a dilemma - here's some background: Up until recently, a series of local scripts that run on our network ran on a Mac OS X box. I would like to migrate these scripts to a Fedora Core 4 box (for better perl, ruby, and pythoiin support), however, the scripts use directories in the Appleshare network. I have the /Volumes directory, in which OSX mounts the shares, shared via Windows

Addition: How to compile SSH on Jaguar (Mac OS X), technical question
Thanks to all the help I got in writing my HOW TO, im am getting closer to isuue it. I have just seen a file called: /System/Library/Filesystems/AppleShare/sshHelper I wonder what will break, if I disable Apples own OpenSSH implementation. Would FileSharing not work anymore? Any workarounds known? I mean what will happen to Apple Share if I add a first line to both sshd.conf and ssh.conf to

Network Trash Folder - how to do it?
Hello,I saw on Apple mashines connected to AppleShare Server that they had something called 'Network Trash Folder'. That is if some is working on a server volume and deletes a file from the volume, the file appears in user's Trash on his Desktop (but?it is really placed on the server in volume's special folder called 'Network Trash Folder'). So he can restore the file if he

make_file() could ignore ENODEV errors (from afs filesystem)
Hi, Would it be acceptable to patch make_file() in flist.c to ignore any ENODEV's and not mark them as io_error=1? In afs, a mountpoint to a volume which does not exist gives an ENODEV. As such, it can't be copied, so should (or could) just be ignored? The io_error isn't terminal, but it does disable the delete function and you end up with an exit code of 23. regards |<evin

Virus checker gets error "Network Name was deleted" ?
hi, Has anyone encountered problems running virus checkers on NT4+sp3 clients against Samba served drives ? We recently upgraded a samba server to 1.9.18p10 and now have an intermittent problem where during the scan of Samba drive the virus check flakes out with the error; "Network Name was deleted" I'm told that the server still appears to be browsable after this error, and the

Irix joblimits failure (was: Re: New snapshot)
IRIX has a compatibility mechanism that lets you test for optional symbols (like jlimit_start) at run-time. I think these patches will let all all IRIX 6.5 systems build images that will test for job limit support dynamically: --- ./configure.ac Wed Feb 27 01:12:35 2002 +++ ../openssh-3.1p1/./configure.ac Thu Mar 7 15:50:21 2002 @@ -115,7 +115,7 @@ AC_DEFINE(WITH_IRIX_ARRAY)

exit code 23 - inappropriate error for copying symlinks?
Hi, I've just created a small directory as an example, it holds a file and two symlinks that don't point to anything, and another symlink going nowhere in a subdirectory. rsync (2.5.5) is happy to copy these but produces an error. I can't see why it considers this an error? It's not even aborting after it first encounters this 'error'. $ ls -lR /var/tmp/rsync.test

some win2K machines get "incorrect username/password" error
A recent update was made to our "standard image" for new computers. It is for win2K. These new computers cannot connect to a Samba 3 server running a simple smb.conf. (Just for the sake of full disclosure, the same exact symptom is happening also with an old appleshare ip server offering SMB) The slightly older win2K machines have no problem connecting. I've been around a little

Access Suddenly Cut Off to Samba Shares
Hi. I'm hoping some samba genius has a clue about what's happening on my system. I am using Mandrake 10 "Community Release". It comes with Samba 3.0.2. I have been using it without problems for two weeks, and before that I had Mandrake 10 betas and Release Candidates running on the same machine. Today, all of a sudden, I can't access any of my Samba shares over my

Imposing permissions on directories under a share
Hi, Does anyone know of a way to impose permissions on files in a directory under a share but not on the top level of the share itself ? eg. The share name is [share] - path=/share, we have a directory of /share/test and we want to force all files in that directory to be world readable. I know create mode works at the share level, but this isn't explicit enough. Anyone any ideas ? Dave

Optional symbols on IRIX
A couple days ago I mailed in a patch to use _MIPS_SYMBOL_PRESENT to test at run-time whether jlimit_startjob() was present IRIX systems. I neglected to mention that the patch I sent in wasn't entirely complete: a _real_ fix would test '#include <optional_sym.h>' in configure, and also require either the MipsPRO 7.2.x or MipsPRO 7.3.1.3 or newer compiler. IRIX 6.5 patch for Compression with UsePrivilegeSeparation
Simon Cooper already mailed in a patch to get the effects of MAP_ANON on IRIX systems, but it was against openssh/3.3p1. I've reapplied his patach to openssh/3.4p1 and include it as an attachment. Here's his explanation: > I noticed that the recent release requires the existence of MAP_ANON to get > an anonymous memory region. In Irix the equivalent functionality can be >
