Samba 2.0.5a error when adding machine to domain
Yesterday, I found that a required file for Samba was empty and had been modified recently (< 1 hour before I was called to investigate). I later found out that the Samba software modifies this file on a set schedule if I leave the default settings alone. The file was PAYCHEX.<netbios-nameA>.mac. Because this file was empty, I figured I was screwed and had to add the machine to the

cairo and rapache [was: Weird errors on MAC OS X Leopard when using Cairo/GDD through Rserve]
Charles, Greg, the problem is that Apple's FreeType on Leopard uses CF calls (albeit just to get files), so it breaks on fork. (The message is moot, because the whole point of using fork is to *not* use exec). In any case the solution is to compile your own version of freetype, fontconfig and cairo without any CF or Carbon API. Fortunately most recent versions of FreeType will do so

Extended attributes not working on mac
I?m not sure if this is related, but there was a regression a while back in handling resource forks in folder icons. It was supposed to be fixed in 4.10.13 but I don?t think it quite works yet and I haven?t had the time to test it further yet. -Perttu > On 30 May 2020, at 21.00, Martin Steiner / 3MF GmbH via samba <samba at lists.samba.org> wrote: > > I changed the configuration

open() called from within Samba returns EROFS on a filesystem that was remounted R/W
Hello. I have a Samba share pointing to a mount point which is mounted read-only on boot. It has since been remounted as R/W. The share itself is marked as writable in smb.conf : [storage] path = /mnt/storage/ guest ok = yes browseable = yes writable = yes After connecting to the share via CIFS as an authenticated user, I get a "permission denied" message, with the error code being

Error when trying to open Half-Life 1 in Mac OSX
When trying to open Half Life in Wine on a Mac running OSX 10.5.8, the game opens in a 600 x 800 window and flashes for a tenth of a second, goes to white, and displays this error message: [Image: http://files.myfrogbag.com/bfl1o2/error.png ] Clicking "OK" just repeats the process, and clicking "Cancel" exits out of the program. Is there any way I can get Half-Life to

After reconnecting to the share the comments are gone away. So the data was just in the cache on my mac before. I?ll install samba on a new debian distro tomorrow. Let?s see if the problem persists. Option configure
Under some circumstances for debugging purposes it may be helfpfull to know the PID used during startup as well. Just noted that this one is only listen in forked mode. Samba does fork with type=notify as well but systemd is waiting for sd_notify message in that mode. Anyway, for curiosity i recompiled samba with --without-systemd. If i use type=notify mode now and no PIDFile, systemctl start

Manual OOM killing?
Hey guys and gals, Yesterday I had one of my scientists kill one of my servers when his program ran amok and gobbled up all the memory, or forked too many processes, or I'm just not exactly sure what to be honest. Is there something I can run manually in cron to look for rampant programs and kill them? I know that may be hard to discern but I could also include a list if "known

Can not open secrets.tdb. Win XP can't access Mac OSX 10.5.1.
I am a Mac user and am only using Samba to the extent that it is installed with Mac OS X. I am simply trying to share files between a Windows PC and my Mac laptop. I'm hoping that the error message below concerning the secrets.tdb file may be meaningful to someone on this list. I haven't had any luck yet with a similar post on Apple's forum. Before I upgraded to Leopard, I

SUGGESTION: Settings to disable forked processing in R, e.g. parallel::mclapply()
ISSUE: Using *forks* for parallel processing in R is not always safe. The `parallel::mclapply()` function uses forked processes to parallelize. One example where it has been confirmed that forked processing causes problems is when running R via RStudio. It is recommended to use PSOCK clusters (`parallel::makeCluster()`) rather than *forked* processes when running R from RStudio (

Printing Problems w/Samba on AIX (2nd Try)
Hello all, I have been running Samba on various versions of UNIX for quite a while now without ever encountering any major problems. However, I have now run into a problem that has me stumped. I am running Samba 2.0.5a on an RS/6000 running AIX. Up until a month or so ago we were running on AIX version 4.2.1. At that time we upgraded to 4.3.2 and Samba continued to function properly.
