2.0.4b: logrotate problems with rh60
The 2.04b rpm for rh60 ships with and installs a config file for logrotate (the samba.log file in the packaging/RedHat section). ===== /var/log/samba/log.nmb { postrotate /usr/bin/killall -HUP nmbd endrotate } /var/log/samba/log.smb { postrotate /usr/bin/killall -HUP smbd endrotate } ===== 1) I think that the use of "endrotate" is wrong. REPEAT: hasn't anyone used smbclient linux->linux?
I cannot get smbclient or smbmount to work from linux -> linux. I'm running 2.05a on Red Hat 6.x servers. I can use NT shares from linux. I can use samba shares from NT & 95. Is there some trick to getting this to work between linux machines?

Purely numeric service name
Hi I have a problem accessing NT boxes which have a service (host) name which is purely numeric, smbclient insists on treating it as an ip number. For example:- /opt/samba/bin/smbclient \\\\06842\\BACKUP xxxxx -U xxxxx returns :- Connecting to 0.0.14.34 at port 139 Connection to 06842 failed I am using HPUX 10.2 and samba version 2.0.4b. Surely it should be possible to connect to NT

Success compiling R on Caldera OL 2.3
Hello - thanks to Prof. Ripley and Peter Dalgaard for their helpful responses. I have now successfully compiled R on my machine. The kernel-headers were not installed on my machine, but there is a package on the Open Linux 2.3 CD. I believe they weren't installed simply because I didn't choose to have all the development tools/libraries added when I installed linux. I didn't realize

Are there binary for Caldera linux?
Hi there, Is there a binary-file installation of R-1.2.3 for Caldera Linux? I have Caldera Linux 2.3. The linux binary installation files at CRAN seems to be for Red Hat Linux only. Is there a way to make the Red Hat linux binary work for Caldera linux? I have tried and has no success so far. Thanks. X11 forwarding between from Mandrake(sshd) to Caldera(ssh) doesn't work!
I am having great difficulty getting X11 forwarding to work between my openssh server (Linux Mandrake 6.1) and my openssh client (Caldera OpenLinux 2.x). I get "X11 connection rejected because of wrong authentication." on the Caldera box when I ssh into the Mandrake box and try to run any X app. If I make the Caldera box the server all is fine and works perfectly. Terminal connections

2.0.6: HUP/charset/profiles/smbmount/logging
This is the list of problems I had with samba-2.0.6 so far. Can anyone tell me if he can reproduce them and if he considers them as problems? 2.0.6 on linux 2.2.13 or 2.0.33 1) sighup/log reopening doesn't always work: connections that are already active keep logging to the old logs; logrotate rotates/zip the logs and samba stops logging completely till restart. 2) Localized chars. No automatic refresh?
Hi! I've been struggling with this install of Samba 2.0.4b on Linux/x86 2.0.36. All of the client machines run Windows NT 4, SP 3. I'm exporting /tmp as pub, and if I right click in the folder and create a new folder, it doesn't show up until I go to 'view' and 'refresh'. If I delete something, it doesn't go away until I refresh. Why? Output of testparm:

Minor flaw in Caldera OpenLinux 1.2
(I almost didn''t post this cause I hope you would notice it immediately after installing the OS... It''s here for the people that don''t/won''t use Caldera OpenLinux 1.2 ) Hello to all! By default, Caldera OpenLinux 1.2 adds the currrent working directory to the end of the $PATH on login. This of course gives a normal user the possibility of gaining a root shell

Compiling R under Caldera Open Linux 2.2 (PR#268)
Thanks for your help. I loaded XFree86-devel-3.3.3.1-3.i386.rpm from my OpenLinux CD and as you indicate this solved by X11 include file problem. I then encountered the linking same problem as you describe below. The error message is saying that the compiler can't find the libg2c library, which is its runtime library. Apparently the g77 supplied by Caldera is missing this important piece.

We are having problem installing version 1.9.18p8 (latest) on a box running Caldera version 2.0.33 (giving an error: "code will only compile on versions of linux after 2.1.7). general newbie security/configuration question
Forgive me if these questions are inappropriate for this list. I have a 3 computer home network, with one box running Linux as a firewall (IPChains/IP Masq; two NICs, one connected to ADSL modem, other connected to an ethernet hub), and one dual boot Linux/Win98 box and a third Win98 only box, both of which have NICs connected to the ethernet hub. I would like to be able to share files and a
