HELP: Connections dropping whilst processes increasing.
I'm running Samba 2.0.4b on a E450 running Solaris 7 which acts as a diskspace server for
students, normally everything runs quite smoothly with numbers of connections in the region of
about 800/900. Then every now and again students will start seeing their connections being lost
and others will not get a connection when they log in, looking at the system shows no obvious
problems, except

Unsolicited oplock breaks
Dear All,
we've been having some intermittent problems with students who's home directories are on a
Sun E450 running Samba 2.0.6. I'm not totally convinced that the problem is caused by the
server, but may be the network. However, I've had a look at the log.smb file and I'm seeing some
error messages that I've not come across before:

Severe problem with Samba
Dear All,
we are experiencing severe problems with Samba 2.2.0 (with quota support) running on a
dual processor (400MHz) Sun E450 running Solaris 2.7. This is used as a central file server for
student diskspace, accessed by approx 1200 PCs running NT 4. Up until recently we
experienced some, what we assume to be, loading issues with connections during the middle of
the day being slow.

Word document corruption when connection lost
We've been having some problems where connections are being lost to our 2.0.4b Samba
machine, the specifics of which are in a different post. To add to the problems we find there is a
problem with particularly Word and also some other programs, with the file in memory getting
corrupted when the connection is lost. If a user loads a Word document from there Samba share

Massive number of processes bringing system to a halt.
Dear All,
I'm running SAMBA 2.0.5a on a Sun 450 running Solaris 7. In the past I've had an occasional
problem with processes running amok and causing the server to grind to a halt, which I've put
down to network glitches as they seemed to coincide with problems on the network. But today
I've had 3 instances where the number of smbd processes has just steadily increased until

Directory listing hangs if links can not be followed.
I've just come across a problem that had me baffled for a bit. We supply students with
diskspace via a Solaris machine running Samba (2.0.6). Yesterday, I got a report that a couple
of students could not access their diskspace, although at login time the drive was getting
mapped. The problem was that if they tried to view the contents of the directory (explorer or dir)
the process would

Samba and ZFS
Hi,
I've recently moved our student fileserver from a Solaris 10 server
that was using UFS filesytems to a new Sun Cluster. As part of the move
I decided to employ ZFS for the filesystem so that I could take
advantage of some of ZFS's features. However, it now seems that windows
does not report the amount of space that the user is actually using, or
the amount of quota left,

Samba screwed up when trying to save a word97 document
Dear All,
We are in the process of evaluating Samba to provide SMB access to unix
file storage for a few hundred PC's.
One of our tests is to save a Word97 document - something that has
caused various PCNFS clients problems in the past. While saving the
document the client stopped and said something like connection lost, or
seesion closed, and the drives mapped from the samba box

Problems with Samba 2.0.6 under Solaris 7
We've inadvertently discovered a bug in the client_name function when our
dns was temporarily damaged. We have a "hosts allow" function that has IP
addresses only to contrain mounts to within our network. When clients would
attempt to connect, if their reverse IP lookup failed - in theory just to
log the name of the connecting host, the originating IP address was being
mangled and

High cpu load
Server is PII-350MHz/256 MB RAM, hardware mirrored high speed SCSI disks.
Installed is SuSE 8.2 with Samba 2.2.8a RPM, XFS filesystems and LPRng as
printservices. Server acts as PDC and WINS server.
Clients are W2K SP2 (a few with SP3). There are +/- 100 clients.
We see a server that is 100% busy and we see during a long time a very high CPU
load (60- 95%) related to one W2K client. When

"session was cancelled" on large file xfers
I've seen a couple mentions of trouble w/ large files in the list
archives, but nothing that seems to resolve this problem...
When trying to move or copy largish files (~ >1MB) with WinN using
Samba 1.9.18p10 on a Sparc Solaris 2.5 system, things hang for a while
and then a dialog box pops up saying "Cannot copy {filename}: The

spam control
Gents,
I have added the following to /etc/mail/sendmail.mc and rebuilt it
trying to control spam. I still get about 25 spam messages a day.
Is there something else that can help control spam?
Thanks

R socket communication
Hello, I tried to code a R socket server but I did not succeed.
The problem is that once the R socket server is created,
I call the readLines function and then R gets blocked.
The client seems to work fine since I tested it with a PERL server.
I tried many combination of params in the socketConnection but
none of them worked.
I have seen some examples where the server sends something to a
