samba and msaccess help please
Hopefully this is a samba question, and not a Microsoft Access question...
I have a multiuser access database on a samba share... it worked fine with multiple users being able to connect to it at the same time no probs. I just upgraded the linux box to red hat 6, copied across the same smb.conf from before and now users are getting a error "Too many active users" when more than one

SUMMARY: Samba 2.0 and passwords
I would like to see those of us who send an inquiry to this list also send
a summary of what fixed the problem so that someone in the future could
find the answer. I searched archives for an answer and only found
questions. Since a lot of folks reply ot individuals then even the replies
don't end up in the archives and so it would be nice if summaries were sent
to the list. Anyway, enough

How to install network apps?
I'm trying to figure out an
intelligent way to install
apps on the network server,
and be able to install once
and have all the clients use
this. However, it seems
like most installations modify
the registry and seem to
demand a client-by-client installation.
Am I missing something on this?
Can someone provide me some hints
or references to help this?

DNS instead of WINS
I have not found any Samba documentation explaining using
DNS for name resolution. We are running a name server on
the network which was set up for several reasons.
I find our DNS server is faster, more reliable and doesn't
generate mangled machine names like our NT WINS server,
which can't be edited. This doesn't happen with DNS since
the names are all entered statically. We have

PAM problem: "no modules loaded for 'samba' service"
I'm running FreeBSD 3.0-current and have just upgraded samba to 2.0.0.
Previously, I used unencrypted passwords. After upgrading, they didn't work
so I changed to use encrypted ones. I can now map my drives from the PC.
However, I still have a number of problems that I think are all related.
- I can't use swat. The authentication always fails. I get a message on the

password stuff
Greetings All:
I hope everyone had a fun Halloween weekend (I carved 4 big
pumpkins and gave out a bucket full of rubber eyeballs and stuff).
I'm hoping somebody can explain the password behavior I've been
seeing (and a couple of other things). Here's my setup:
An isolated LAN (most clients have modems for dialling out) with
one linux/samba machine (RedHat 4.2, kernel 2.0.30,

smbpasswd fails on Samba 2.0.3, HPUX 10.20
I have been unable to make smbpasswd work on my new Samba version 2.0.3
(HPUX 10.20).
The smb.conf was modified from a working version on Linux (version
1.9.18p8).
The relevant (I hope) output from smbpasswd, smb.log and testparms follow
below.
Are the log messages about "Couldn't set effective gid to -24 currently set

and "Can't become connected

Slowdown when copying large files
I am currently investigating using samba on a Linux box to provide file
server services on our NT LAN (I'm a bit sick of NT doing dummy spits on
me). I'm running RH5.1, and have just upgraded samba to
samba-1.9.18p8-51.3 (using the rpm from
http://samba.anu.edu.au/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/redhat/RPMS/5.1/samba-
1.9.18p8-51.3.i386.rpm)
The setup includes several NT servers, one set up as

Windoze Printer and Linux Box Setup Woes
Okay... seems I still cannot get anything working right with this as far
getting it to print. Here is the three different files which I would like all
to look at and see what I have screwed up since it refuses to print.
Here is the setup of the network:

Samba 2.0 RedHat/PAM password troubles found and solved!
I tried upgrading from samba 1.9 to 2.0 on two seperate RedHat servers,
and after both upgrades nobody could get authenticated. The windows boxes
had the registry hacks to turn off encrypted passwords, and I'm
authenticating out of passwd+shadow.
I found many similiar posts on DejaNews and in the samba mailing list
archives.
I broke out strace and found the problem.

Newbie to Samba - getting '^M' characters from NT into PVCS o n UN IX
Hello Tony,
Samba isn't the 'culprit', just the media used. Samba does NOT insert
anything into the files that you copy over or have an application create
on a samba share.
The issue is that you are using a PC program to check out/modify the files,
and pc os'es (Win/dos, i mean) use crlf as a ascii line terminator. Unix
uses a lf only. So when you view the files with a pc

HPUX 9.05 & Samba 2.0.0 & problems !
Hi there !
I just upgraded (last friday night) our main Samba host to Samba 2.0.0 from
version 1.9.18p10. This host provides access to our own file based database
system. The number of Samba clients is around 60 (nearly all NT4.0's and
few NT3.51's). The Samba 2.0.0 host runs
'uname -a':

After the upgrade change I've

fixcrlf doesn't seem to fix crlf
I installed Fixcrlf.exe from the Samba site. I tried it out on my NT 4.0
station, but it doesn't seem to accomplish anything. Specifically:
- I bring up a file in Notepad - the text is one long line with black
squares at the end of records, indicating that there are LF's but
not CRLF's.
- I drag the file icon from Explorer on to the FixCRLF icon and am
rewarded with an

I know this is off-topic to the list, but someone asked me to make the
information that I garnered about Dell Poweredge systems available to
the list.
So, here it is.
Basically, after a search on dejanews, I came across this article:

smbclient put 1/100 of the speed only
Hi !
I have a problem with samba that I cannot seem to solve: smbclient put
it extremely slow.
I am setting up a two-computer home network, with a '95 client (also
print server), and a Linux 2.2.0-pre8 server, using samba-2.0. I've
finished the setup, and most things work fine. However, I noticed that
doing a 'put' with smbclient is extremely slow. I've read the

smbmount questions
Howdy all:
I'm trying to use smbmount to mount a win9x share and copy some files for backup, eventually to run as a script invoked via cron.
I have RH6.1/samba 2.0.5a, and the windoze box is win95b. If I do the standard mount (smbmount //winbox/backup /mnt/smb04) I have to be root. Also, after it's mounted, I can't create any files there as a normal user (even though the
