Authentication requests from NT server fail
I'm currently running Samba 2.0.5a on a HP-UX 10.20 file server, to allow clients running NT4.0 (sp5) to use the resource over the LAN. Samba has initially installed and run perfectly, connecting shares for 150 or so clients. The clients are mapped to their group share as part of a login script on NT. A copy of the config file is attatched. The security is set to server, server details are

strange Win9x-Problem with "case sensitve" - option
Hi, we've got a strange problem with "case sensitive = yes" using 2.0.5a with Win95/98 clients: Directorys directly below the share seem to be empty, if the dirname is lowercase !!? Below uppercase dirs everything is allright and the probem doesn't exist with NT4.0. If we choose "case sensitive = no" everything is allright. (with exeption of the problems we have

runaway smbd processes
Hi, I have a problem with the followig configuration. If anyone can shed some light on it I would be very grateful! Solaris 8 Samba 2.2.4 running via inetd NT 4.0 users access data and their own home directories stored on Unix from, mainly, NT PCs Not all, but some users end up with multiple smbd processes. Every now and again, one smbd process (normally belonging to one of about 3 users)

Automatic printer driver installation for NT4.0/NT2000 clients?
Dear All, I've seen the PRINTER_DRIVER.txt doc on getting the PRINTER$ share set up to automatically add printer drivers to Win95 clients. It explicitly says that the procedure described does not work for NT4.0 clients. I can't find any other documentation on setting up a PRINTER$ share suitable for NT4.0 or NT2000 clients either in the distribution (2.0.5a) or the web site. Is this

Trouble with MS Excel files on samba share
We are testing a basic setup using samba 2.0.6 from the SuSE Linux distribution (Ver. 6.3). Copy files and working (loading & saving files) with MS Word and other applications on the fileshare works well. With Excel 97 SP2 running on NT4.0 SP5 we have the following problem : Open the file first time -> o.k. Save the file first time -> o.k. Open the same file again -> o.k. Save the

NULL filled corrupt files
Hello! I've seen, some people experienced this problem earlyer, but I have not found any solution in the mailing lists... So the problem is, copying files from an NT Workstation (SP5 ) on a Samba server running under Linux (2.0.10) in some (rare) cases results in files exactly of the right size but filled with NULL bytes. I'm using samba 2.0.5a and likely since version 2.0.0 this

AutoCAD file names UPPER CASE on samba
Hi folks, we are experiencing a problem when AutoCAD 2000+ drawing files are saved on a Samba (2.0.8) file share. Regardless of what the file is 'saved as', the name is always converted to all capitals. e.g. Drawing1 becomes DRAWING1 Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem. Seems strange that it is only AutoCAD files, but I think it is Samba related, not AutoCAD,

RPC error on Windows NT4.0 clients
Hi, I'd appreciate any help. I'm getting this odd error when I add in a new samba share to the existing ones on a machine. The error seems to affect some of my NT clients, yielding a message "A remote procedure call (RPC) protocol error occurred." This does not happen to all my NT clients, nor does it seem to affect smbclient on my other samba server. The samba server is

Sharing in another network
Hi, I'm trying to share a machine that's on the other side of a gateway. The machine being shared is a Linux (kernel 2.2.1 (RedHat 5.2) and samba 2.0.3), and the box trying to access it is NT4.0 with SP5. It looks something like this ------- --------- ------ |Linux|-----------|Gateway|----------| NT | ------- --------- ------ 192.168.32.72

running proEngineer with wine?
Hi guys. My name is Chris, I am a complete newbie to Linux and Wine. I searched around but really do not know yet what i am looking for so it makes the search tool not completely useful. I was able to get proEngineer to install from the cd rom using a technique found on a post someone had regarding Diablo. I had to go through a terminal window and make some calls in which it finally went

Case Sensitivity vs. Case Preservation
Hi John, I recently wrote a little internal article in HP to try to graphically show the difference between case sensitivity and case preservation (Unix is case sensitive, NT only 'preserves case'). Perhaps this will help you understand it better, and configure your Samba server to do what you want. It was originally a ms word document format, so you may have to fiddle around with the

License manager
Has anyone successfully incorporated a Win95 app that uses FlexLM license manager on a Samba file system. I would be extremely interested in talking with you as we are trying to install Parametric Technology's ProEngineer on our Samba file server. We do have a copy of the Unix version of the license manager, but I am not sure how I can get the Win95 client to talk to it. Any and all

samba and SMP
I've now tried 2.0.6pre2 with a SuperMicro P6DNF dual PPro as well as the Everex StepDP/Pro dual PPro MB; same result, large (more than 1 MB) file copies usually crash with only a message about oplock errors in the logfile. Running a single CPU kernel works fine (pre2 seems much faster, but I haven't done any testing). 2.0.5a does the same. NFS and mars_nwe with the same hardware and

problem with smbmount
Hello all. I've a <BIG> problem with smbmount. I use samba 2.0.5a on a linux slackware 4.0 (kernel 2.2.6) machine and a WinNT Server 4.0 (sp3, sp4, sp5...). When I mount a WinNT share (i.e. test) with command "smbmount //winntserver/test /mnt" I see a complete confusion on the file(s) date in /mnt directory. I read dates from 1900 since 2100. If I "touch" to create

AutoCad 2004, Samba 3.0.11 & file locking issues
Sorry for such a long post as my first to the list, but in an effort to forego a long back and forth question/answer session via email, I think if I post all the information that I currently have someone may be able to more quickly spot my issue. The server in question is a Gentoo server running Samba 3.0.11. The basic problem is that when person A opens an AutoCad file, person B is unable to
