Transparent migration of users to a samba PDC, how about cygwin tool ?
Hi, I would like to migrate from NT PDC to a Samba PDC. My main concern is that all my users have local profile (i.e. there is no roaming profiles). It seems that users profiles on a workstation are not valide when migrating to the Samba PDC. It seams that the users cannot keep the same identity. On the other hand, I would really like to change PDC without users noticing anything. Tools

Samba 1.9.17 server is not showing up in PDC browser list.
Hi, I've just upgraded to Samba 1.9.17, but I can't get my samba server that resides in a differnet subnet to show up in the PDC's browse list. I've got samba configured as the local browse master and am registering with the wins server with: domain master = no local master = yes preferred master = yes os level = 65 wins support = no

How do I map user accounts on multiple servers to a single Samba PDC?
Is there a slick way to map user accounts on multiple servers to a single Samba PDC? I have my Windows NT user accounts split across two FreeBSD/Samba servers, call them red and blue, with a Windows NT 4.0 PDC "above." The Windows User Manager database allows me to specify which server each user is on, individually. As a user logs on, the Windows PDC passes their session the location of

WINS on diffrent Box to PDC
Hello I'm trying to setup a samba PDC on my server. The problem is that my server is in a dmz network, 192.168.2.0/24 and my lan is 192.168.1.0/24. So i decided to install samba on my Firewall box as a wins server. The WINS server is working perfectly. All of my Boxes on my lan can join the PDC, but cannot logon to the PDC. After looking in the logs i found this is what is coming when i

Separate PDC and file server
First of all, sorry, this must have been discussed before but I couldn't come up with a good set of keywords for googling. Feel free to slap with a msgid or an URL. :-) I successfully set up a PDC that authenticates a small Win 2k/XP LAN. It fetches auth info from a LDAP server and also serves home directories. The setup works with both 2.2.6 and 3.0a20 on Linux. Now I'd like to move

Snap Server fails to join Samba PDC Domain
I have a Snap Server which runs some imbedded version of Samba (I'm thinking 3.X). I'm try to migrate from an NT PDC to a Samba 3.0.9 PDC (running on FreeBSD 4.10). The migration is mostly successful -- all the profiles have been moved, client authentication works great, password changes work fine, etc. My major problem is that the Snap Server fails to find the Samba PDC. However, if I

NT PDC to Samba PDC migratio
I thought that it was quite impossible to do that due to the Domain SID as well as the SAM list that currently Samba is unable to retrieve. (Not that it would have helped me any, since our old NT 4.0 PDC took a major Hardware failure.) How would one duplicate the SID, is that possible with 'smbpasswd -S' from the new Samba DC? NT Domain to Samba-LDAP just disabling netlogon on NT PDC?
Hi group Quick question before I switch my domain from NT4 PDC to Samba-LDAP: Can I leave the old NT-PDC in my subnet, if I just disable it's netlogon service? Reason: This old NT-Server has a database running which is still needed after the migration to samba, but it doesn't need to have any NETBIOS-NTDomain functionality after the switch, just TCP-IP. I know of third-party tools

rid and uid on ldap pdc
Is the rid of a user required to be 2*uid+1000 in HEAD when using an ldap backend? Is it still necessary that users also exist in /etc/passwd? I'd like to replace NIS and win NT domain auth with ldap, and want to keep the current unix uid's and the NT rid's, so the migration is transparent to the end users. -david

Change Samba PDC transparent
When you mean register the client, are you meaning "Join the Domain"? Unless I am mistaken, I believe the machine account that you had to create using smbpasswd creates the SID in the smbpasswd file, if you copy that file over to the new server, and also copy over all the netlogon information, profiles and such. Then you should have no issues and it will be

configuring samba as a PDC
Hello. I am new to Samba, so if my questions are basic, please forgive me. A few weeks ago, I managed to get Samba running on my BSD/OS 2.1 server. The samba version is 1.9.15p4 as supplied by default with this OS distribution. Everything seems to work well on it. The shares are accessible OK. We also had an NT 4.0 server on our LAN that was the PDC. Unfortunately, it died a horrible death last

samba 4 as a pdc and /etc/passwd
I am remembering something wrong related to samba 4 and that there is no longer a need to have machine accounts and user accounts exist in /etc/passwd ? I want to set up a samba 4 domain controller as a bdc to a samba 3 domain. Have the domain data base replicate and then shut down the samba 3 pdc and promote the samba 4 to a pdc. It would be nice to ignore having to migrate /etc/passwd because I

Slow Samba - Winbind - NT PDC - low bandwidth - Why slow lookups?
No comments on this one...? Did earlier versions of winbind go out to the PDC for information for each and every file that is listed in an explorer window? The is also a like delay in listing directory contents on the linux box (ie ls- al) ========================================== Hi all.. I apologies for the length. Run a very old Samba version (2.2.5 - Yes security problems) and winbind

Seamless update from Samba 2 to Samba 3 on a new server
Hi, I'm new to the list, I hope i'm posting at the right place ;) I'm having a hard time trying to update and to move my Samba 2.2 PDC to a new Debian server. Currently, the PDC is using Samba 2.2.8 on a Solaris Server. My goal is to move it to another computer, and to update it to a newer version (3.0.24) This must be fully transparent for the users, since I have no time to
