WinXP problems accessing Samba shares
I'm having problems accessing Samba shares from my XP Pro machine. Samba 2.2.7 is installed on two Redhat 8.0 machines and configured using SWAT. I have user level security and encrypted passwords setup. I have a printer shared on both servers as well as home directories and one restricted access share. My printers are setup for guest access so all machines will always be able to print.

Why is this failing???
Trying to join a SAMBA domain from Win2K SP3. It fails the password check for 'root' as per the log entries below, then it defaults to 'nobody' which then tries to run 'useradd' to add the windows machine name, failing, of course. I tried this both with lanman auth = yes and no... encrypt password = yes I can connect to Samba shares just fine from windows using

Hello, I have 2.2.6.p2 installed as a PDC and there are around ten PCs(Win2k sp2 and 3) in this domain. Everything works fine and recently I tried to add two extra PCs in this domain, but Win2k PC generates an error message saying "The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "hm": No mapping between account names and security IDs was done". As usual

I actually found "nobody" in smbpasswd, but I'm not sure if I put it in there and dont understand why nobody needs to be samba-user. imho nobody is the unix-account under which

Win2k clients and PDC
Hi, We have Samba 2.2.6(+2.2.7 security patch) installed on solaris. Samba is used as PDC for WinNT and Win2K clients. The WinNT machines have no problems geting into the domain as machine trust accounts exist in /etc/passwd and smbpasswd file. However, Win2k clients are not able to join the domain. I did go through the documentation, and hence created root account in 'smbpasswd'

Samba + LDAP problem
Hi: I'm trying to integrate Samba and LDAP (Samba working as a PDC). While trying to add a computer to the domain, this is what I get (This is not a production server, so there is no problem with password revealing): [2003/05/28 18:59:00, 2] passdb/pdb_ldap.c:get_single_attribute(435) get_single_attribute: [userWorkstations] = [<does not exist>] [2003/05/28 18:59:00, 2]

samba - sql server authentication
samba 2.2.8a/LDAP backend Red Hat 7.3 Windows 2000 server, connected to the samba controlled domain Sql Server 7.0 It seems that my sql server does not want to run scheduled jobs as a domain user, I am needing to do this for a network share that I am saving to, otherwise I would just run as SA Error from sql server: The job failed. Unable to determine if the owner (PRUPREF.COM\Administrator)

NT MD4 password check failed
Hello All, Well, I've admitted defeat. I've installed Samba 2.2.3a on a Solaris 7 machine and am trying to connect to it from a Win2K SP2 PC. I am using encrypted passwords. The same user (darren) exists on the pc (called 'plm') and the samba server ('sparky2'). The password for this user is the same on the PC, and the /etc/shadow and /apps/samba/private/smbpasswd

join 2000 box to domain - troubles
Hello, I am trying to join a 2000 box to my domain. I go through the steps and it tells me "Logon Failure:". I am guessing that if it got to this point, that a machine account exists and everything is good there.... I am using 'administrator' as the user. This user is part of the group 'Domain Admins'. In my smb.conf I have this set: domain admin group =

Using //server/share%username ?
I'm trying to get win9x clients to connect to a Samba 2.0.4b server on FreeBSD 3.2-STABLE. Some of these machines have Windows logins different from the Unix user on the server, and the smb.conf manpage suggests that the "share%username" hack should be used in this case. This seems to work fine on my old 1.9.18p8 server, but not on any of the newer ones. With debug level 5 I see

Can't login from Xbox - No session setup?
Hello. I'm having problems connecting to a Samba 2.2.7 share from my Xbox with Xbox Media Player (XBMP) 2.3. In the config file of XBMP, I added an entry which should make XBMP connect to a SMB share on my Samba server. I think, I've got everything setup correctly - according to the docs. However, when I try to connect, I don't see anything on the Xbox. After having set log level

NT MD4 password encryption question
Are there multiple ways that Windows clients encrypt passwords? I'm seeing different behavior between two clients. On one, I can access a Samba share just fine. On the other, using the same username and password to access the same share, I get "incorrect password." Looking for the difference in Samba debug traces, I find it comes down to this: smb_password_ok: Checking SMB
