client NT always asks for password
Hello Our NT workstations always ask for the password on each share of the samba server, although the password is the same as the log on password. Is there any way to avoid this ? The first try always fails on the server, but I don't what user/passwd combination NT uses on that first time... Questions on smbclient messaging
I'm running Samba v2.0.5a on a RedHat v6.0 system. This server provides SMB shares to Win98, OS/2 and Linux clients. Everything is running fine with the Win98 and OS/2 clients, but I have a few questions regarding Samba and Linux clients. 1. Is there a way for Linux systems to receive SMB messages? Something analogous to Windows' "WinPopup" or OS/2's "Network

OpenSSH -> SSH; ssh-agent: reasking for passphrase
Precedence: bulk Hi, I try to connect from a SuSE Linux openssh-2.1.1p1-4 system to a FreeBSD system which runs SSH Version 1.2.27 [i386-unknown-freebsd3.2], protocol version 1.5. Standard version. Does not use RSAREF. Before I switched (at home) to openssh I could use ssh-add, ssh (freebsd), and from there to another server ssh (freebsd2), where (freebsd[2..n]) are n+1 unix systems

function prop.trend.test (stats)
To the R-help list, In the documentation of the prop.trend.test function in the stats package, no bibliography has been provided which would allow one to find out the theoretical basis of that function and/or details of its implementation. May I suggest that some bibliography be included, as it generally happens with other statistical functions. I currently use R 2.8.0 running on Windows XP.

plotting on the figure margin
Dear R-list members, I am trying to put a legend just outside the plotting area of a graph. 1. Is there some way to plot symbols on the figure margin, in the same way as function "mtext" can write on the margin? 2. Is there some way to use the "legend" function (or some equivalent function) to plot a legend on the figure margin? 3. Any other way to plot either symbols or a

parameter yaxs / function hist (graphics)
Dear R users, The parameters xaxs and yaxs (function par, package graphics) seem not to work with the function hist (package graphics), even when the parameters xlim and ylim are defined. Is there any way to make yaxs="i" and xaxs="i" work properly with the function hist, mainly to produce histograms that "touch" the horizontal axis? The R documentation and the R

barplot with anchored bars
Dear R list members, How to produce barplots anchored to the x-axis (not floating above the x-axis) with a box around? With both following codes, the lower horizontal line of the box is below the y = 0 line: # first code x <- c(1,2,3,4) barplot(x,yaxs='i') box() # second code x <- c(1,2,3,4) op <- par(yaxs='i') barplot(x) box() par(op) The parameter yaxs='i'

Having problems with files that have the ':' character
Some of the files on my linux box have the character ':' in their name. Viewing them over the network via smb, samba seems to replace the ':' with a '~'. The real problem is that these files cannot be copied/moved at all (error messages appear). Has anyone else encountered this issue? And is there a fix or workaround? (please don't tell me I need to rename all my

Syntax for mounting Samba shares under Linux?
I'm having a hell of a time mounting Samba shares under Linux. Both server and client are running kernel v 2.2.1x on otherwise RedHat v6.0 systems. The machine running the Samba (v2.0.5a) server is working great. Directories and printers are easily accessable from Win98 and OS/2. It's Linux as a SMB *client* that is giving me problems. I can easily mount shares from a command prompt

Path of print job data through Samba?
Can someone please point me to an overview on how printing works with Samba v2.0.5a? As far as I can tell, there are 3 directories involved when printing to a Samba-shared printer on a Linux system: /tmp/ /var/spool/samba /var/spool/lpd/printername/ I was under the impression that incoming files were written to /tmp, then copied to the printer-specific directory, then printed. Obviously

Bug with syncing browser lists with a NetBIOS scope ID in place
Howdy all -- I have discovered a bug in samba (I'm running v2.0.5a) when a NetBIOS scope ID is being used. Essentially, samba will use the configured scope ID for everything except for when nmbd tries to do a node status on the PDC as part of syncing the browser lists; when it does that node status, it does it *without* the scope ID, and it fails. Our network consists of a main IP subnet

Dear R-list members, I have just downloaded R version 2.11.0. Then I installed package gdata. At the end of the installation, a warning message said that package gtools could not be found. Package gdata was, after the installation, included in the "Package Index" in the help files. Messages during installation (which was made through the menu Packages / Instal package(s), choosing the

saving graphics in jpeg format
Dear R users, I need to save a graph in jpeg format. After plotting the graph, when the graphics window is active, in the File menu, the Save as / Jpeg / 100% quality correctly saves the graph in jpeg format. But I would like to know, how could I control the resolution (in dpi) of the saved jpeg file? I need to produce a jpeg at 1200 dpi. I have tried also the jpeg function in the package
