Jet Direct Printers and Plotters
We have a HP Design Jet 650C Plotter which is hooked to the net via a
jetdirect nic. Now I dont have a clue on how to use this plotter over
the net. It doesent show up in the network neighborhood and I cant find
anything about jetdirect plotters in the Linux documentation or the
inet. The server is running Suse Linux 6.2 and Samba 2.05a.
TIA

Samba, CUPs & Win2000 printing
I'm very new to Linux and Samba so bear with me - I am migrating our
business to a Linux/Samba network from an NT network - using Samba as a
PDC.
We are running RH7.3, Samba v2.2.7a, and CUPS v1.1.14
I have a test network set-up which includes the Linux/Samba PDC server, a
Win2000 client and a HP Jetdirect network printer (Laserjet 4Si)
Domain logons and filesharing works fine, but I

containing:
!root = NTDOM\Administrator NTDOM\administrator Administrator administrator
And according to the wiki. (https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Configuring_Point%27n%27Print_automatic_printer_driver_deployment)

Shares requiring "Everyone" access...
I believe I have found either a bug or something I do not understand. I
recently had a file-share issue and the resolution was to set the
"others" permissions to 5, read and execute. The problem with this is
that once I am in Windows on a workstation, this appears to allow
"Everyone", "CREATOR OWNER", and "CREATOR GROUP" access. We normally
setup our

Yes, that's exactly what I've done.Ok, my group has name "IT admins",
but logic is same;)Thank you.
However I have one more problem.
If I create new group or user and give it UID/GID, this is immediately
reachable on linux server. id user, or getent group/passwd and also
wbinfo -u/-g/-i can list info about it.
But if I assign group to user (or deassign), it spends a lot of time

Did you set the SePrivileges?
Did you configure the share with "POSIX" or WINDOWS rights. ?
And in the folder /srv/samba/Printer_drivers/

OK, I've tried commenting the line out. Ran /etc/init.d/samba reload, but
no change. Should I try a full server reboot then?

Windows Vista Issues
This is a repost of a simple question about Windows Vista and R (with
answer), along with a heads-up on other Windows Vista issues that people may
not be aware of and that may impact R development.
1. The standard package install process fails because the user does not
have permission to write to Program Files/R/R-version/library. Apparently
the install process has already been modified to give

Upgrading Samba 3 to Samba 4 - Domain Controller unreachable
OK, I'm rebooting the server now. Removed that line first.
SELinux and App Armour are not installed on the servers. Tested with the
firewall down (iptables), ulimit is not being reached, still lots of memory
and hard drive space available... Since it's the weekend, no one else is in
the building except for me.
