Pinging win from FreeBSD
Hello Samba folks,
I thought you might be able to help me.
I have 2 machines, 1 is FreeBSD, 1 is win95. They can't ping each other, but
the bsd box comes up in Network Nieghborhood when Samba is active. What's
going on? Is it not possible to ping a windows machine from a unix box? They
are on the same hub via UTP. IPs are 192.168.1.x and netmasks are same
(255.255.255.0).

Is rl broken?
Greetings,
I cvsup'd and rebuilt a FreeBSD 4.8 system last Friday after receiving the
realpath security advisory. The machine is remote and the NIC uses the rl
driver. After booting the machine I had no network connectivity. The
person at the remote site says the boot was normal and he could see that the
NIC was properly configured but he could not ping it and I could not login.
We booted

MGCP to Inter Tel system
I've been trying to figure out if it's possible to connect
Asterisk to a parent Inter Tel Axxess system through the
MGCP protocol. The archives for this list aren't searchable
and I'm wondering if anyone has a simple answer...

Hmm, so 9.0 is out and it supports SIP natively. How did you plan to
integrate the 2?
-The Axxess will see the * as it would see an IP service provider.

Supported version of Samba for commercial use.
Dear Sirs.
We have csv reports that are created on a unix server automatically via a
cron job. We are looking at putting these reports in a shared area / work
out a way of sharing a unix device to windows machine like mapping a network
drive. The only product we have found that can possibly do this is samba.
Because we are a large company ('BRITISH TELECOM') we really need a version

re driver trobles (RELENG_5)
Dear colleagues,
experimenting with new amd64-based router we found strange re(4) behaviour
when working in autoselect media mode:
whenever promisc mode turned on, renegotiating occurs, leading to 3 to 45
(depending on STP settings on the switch) network unavailability.
Moreover, some other re(4) setting changes seem to disturb link state
unneededly (such as ifconfig re0 -vlanhwtag)

Factor to continuous
Hi
I am really struggling with changing my factors into continuous variables.
There is plenty of information on changing continuous to a factor which is
the opposite of what i need to do. I would be soooooo grateful for any help
Thanks

OpenSSH 1.2.3 on AIX 4.3.3
Hmph. I wish I had checked the list before I wasted a half-day on this.
Yes, the problem exists under AIX (mine's 4.3.1). Here's the patch I
came up with, which may be a little more straightforward than the
original. I confirmed that it works under Solaris 2.[67] too.
Don't forget to run autoconf.

SunOS 4.x port
This is based on openssh-2.0.0beta1. There are a few rough spots:
1) SunOS doesn't have ut_type in struct utmp so I just whacked
in the old login() from openssh-1.2.3.
2) There is a SUNOS4 section added to defines.h -- this could probably
be a bit cleaner.
3) sigaction on SunOS is implemented via #defines to sigvec, thus there
is no SA_RESTART (this is the default behavior).

Samba performance on Fast Ethernet networks when linked to Win95
Hello everybody,
althought there are a lot of discussions on Samba's performance, I would
like to share my results trying to connect Samba running on a Linux box
to a Win95 workstation on a fast ethernet network.
If any of you could have some ideas or suggestions , please mail me (cc:

First of all, may I present you :

"bug" with ifconfig ... ?
I just made one of my 4.x remote servers inaccessible and just tested it
on my 5.x laptop, and it does the same thing ... not sure if this is
considered a 'desirable' effect, or a but ... but ... 'ifconfig <device>
-alias' will wipe out all IPs on the device:
mobile# ifconfig -a
lo0: flags=8049<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 16384
inet 127.0.0.1 netmask

Asterisk-Asterisk E1 connection
Dear, I have two Asterisk PBXs with an E1 interface/RJ-45 port in both
boxes. I need to connect both PBXs with E1/R2 and UTP cable.
What are the requirements to deploy the UTP cable ??? Straight-through
or crossover ??? What are the pinouts in both peers ???
Thanks a lot,
Alejandro
