Printing to samba server doesn't work
Well, not like it should. I can capture a printer with the "net use lpt1:" command, but I would really like to be able to print to any one of the three printers in my printcap. NT gives me the error: "The parameter is incorrect". I attached the error message screen below, in .png format. This worked for the last printer I had. All I changed was the printer and the

smbtar problem
I was using smbtar to test backing up an NT server, everything works fine except that for quite a lot of the files it has an error downloading them(probably 2/3 of them actually). All it says is : Error reading file \dir\dir\file. Got 0 bytes Didn't get entire file. size=533, nread=0 I could see this happening if the file were opened exclusively such as the paging file, but to my knowledge

Printjob stuck spooling
Hi, I'm trying to remove a printjob that is currently blocking the printque for one of my users. I've tried to access the printer from the user and delete it there, but this doesn't help. Cups does not show the job at all. I therefore tried to access the printspool via sambas net printq command. With net, I can find the job, and the jobid, but when I try to use net rap printq

Re-4: Samba 3.0.9 doesn't remove printjobs ?
I modified the CUPS access rights (defined in cupsd.conf). Before that only users of administrative group had access to the printer configuration parts. Now I removed all access restrictions, so that anyone can access all CUPS services (printers, jobs, ...) (we use this, because sometimes we need to hold printers manually ...). But, as I mentioned, I don't find the relationship between this

completed printjobs stay in queue
Jerry, I'm very sorry for this late answer. I should tweak my mailfilters (I didn't expect an answer anymore so I didn't check my samba-mailfolder) That's our situation: - I tried to revert to 3.0.20rc2 and got the error again - I installed 3.0.20 again and rebooted, and the problem went away! (I'm sure that all smbd, nmbd and winbindd daemons were killed before the

Re-2: Samba 3.0.9 doesn't remove printjobs ?
That was a good hint! Yes, I've installed SP2, and it realy seems to be the Problem. Now I've checked that on a machine with SP1 - and the jobs from the same printqueue are removed correctly there! -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: [Samba] Samba 3.0.9 doesn't remove printjobs ? printjob stays in windows queue after transfer failure
Hi Jerry et al, I'm using the 3.0.1 release in 'ADS' mode with ~450 print queues and ~150 users (getting migrated right now, will be ~3.000 in the end). In general everything works fine apart from some smaller driver configuration problems, the usual stuff. Though I see a lot of errors in the log files and it seems that sometimes the print job transfer fails (get 'zero nothing to

Can' t delete printjobs spooled in cups
Hi, i learned a lot about cups, samba and printerdrivers the last few days and hours. I found a lot of mistakes but i can't change the following situation: I CAN NOT delete printjobs! I can connect to the printers, automatic download the driver, print, stop the printer, start the printer. Any tips, links, hints would be nice. My setup: Debian Sarge - Samba 3.0.14a - Cups 1.1.23. nss_ldap

completed printjobs stay in queue after "upgrade" 3.0.20rc2 -> 3.0.20
A few weeks ago, I upgraded Samba 3.0.1x to 3.0.14a . After the upgrade, all completed printjobs on all 40 printers stayed in samba's print queue (they were removed from the unix-printqueue). When I installed 3.0.20rc2, everything back to normal. But since the upgrade this weekend to 3.0.20, the same thing happens again: no jobs were removed from the samba printerqueue's. Removing

LDAP functionable? ldap.c does not compile on Solaris 2.6 /SWAT bug?
Hi, Is there anybody who succesfully compiled 2.0.4b INCLUDING LDAP support "--with-ldap"? And on Solaris 2.6 (2.x)? I first had configure run with also the NISPLUS option, but didn't want that after all. I had a lot of problems trying to get Samba accepting connections anyway. That compiled oke: there's a little bug? in the SAMBA source somewhere however, because I always get

Samba 3.0.9 doesn't remove printjobs ?
Hello! I'm using samba with CUPS printing (with raw passthru) for a long time now and it worked very well. But after upgrading my samba installation from 3.0.2 to 3.0.9, the printjobs (sent from XP Workstations) aren't removed from the joblist anymore. Means: the job is printed correctly, but opening the printqueue on the XP machine still contains the job (not only mine, but jobs from

Printjobnames
Hello, I am using a cups/samba-server to printout windows printjobs. All printjobsnames from windows are start with "smbprn." and sometimes the printjobnames really long (smbprn.00000004 http://bin.brose.net/deu/livelink.exe/fetch/2000/28976/508760/509407/647076/384558/715927/PP050b_Kapitel01_HU-Management.pdf?nodeid=715933&vernum=1.pdf) Is it possible to change the printjobsname

Q: Ideal print setup on Solaris (2.6)
Hello there, We want to improve the way we initially setup printing on a farm of about 20 Solaris 2.6 servers, in a way that all the possibillities of printing are well impelmented and usable. Right now users can't delete jobs when they are queued onto the (Samba)server and (of course, because it's configured now like that- see example) every printer's job list appears in the same

lib/util_sock.c:read_data(436) ...
Hello, I am administering several Samba PDCs (2.2.7a - 3.0.1) in different networks. The underlying OS'es are nearly the same on all machines, Debian 3.x and SuSE 8.x. The machines are also providing the following services to the clients: ISC dhcpd3, bind9 for dynamic DNS and lprng. Clients are running Win2K/XP. So far, everything works: domain logons, printing, file sharing. But I

Samba spoolfile name
L.S. Situation: I am running Samba 2.2.7a as my DPC in a small business network with win98/ME clients. A big Fiery printer/scanner/copier device is also part of this network. It has its own printserver. Since Win98/ME can not print to an LPD queue directly, I have setup Samba to spool the printjobs send by the clients to the Fiery server. All is working well, but there is a small problem. This

Copy creates empty file then fails
When I try to copy a file from a Windows 2000 desktop to a Solaris 8 machine running Samba 2.2.2, the copy fails. After I initiate the copy, I get a pop-up window asking me to replace the existing file with the new file. The problem is that Samba is creating an empty file (0 bytes), and then tries to overwrite it. It won't allow me to overwrite the empty file, it just gives me a message Access

user nobody can print on a non-public printer?
My printing system is working beautifully thanks to SAMBA. Thanks! Except that 5 times now, user nobody connected to the printer successfully and printed! User nobody can not log onto the domain. It seems to happen if you print immediately after you log on. I logged on as my test user and printed immidiately. The job went through as user nobody. 5 minutes later I printed again, and that time I

Spool queue issue winxp and samba-3.0.x
Hai, Lately I am encountering a weird issue with spool queue under winxp and samba+cups. It seems winxp puts all the information of printjobs spooled to a given printer exported with samba in its local printer spool queue of that printer (allso of other users in the domain) and never marks them as done/expired . After a certain amount of time there are so many jobs in the queue the workstation
