Printing to Samba 2.0.7 from Windows 2000
Hi,
I've recently installed LPRng 3.6.22, ifhp 3.3.19, and
Samba 2.0.7 on my FreeBSD 4.1 system. Printing works
fine from the FreeBSD machine, and I am able to access
shares via my Win2000 machine. I've configured a
[printers] section in smb.conf, and I am able to see
the LaserJet 2100 when browsing, but on installing it
I am unable to print to it. I get en error connecting
the printer

SAMBA 2.2.3a <-> LPRng 3.8.x
hi you all,
I had this problem for a long time and with different versions of SAMBA
and LPRng:
using '/usr/spool/lp/bin/lpr -r -Fl -m%m -J"%J" -U%U -P%p %s'
as 'print command' results in two jobs in the queue window on the NT box,
though there is only one job in the unix queue.
using '/usr/spool/lp/bin/lpr -r -Fl -m%m -U%U -P%p %s'
works fine, but delete

Split charts with ggplot2, tidyquant
Thanks for the reminder about lattice! I did some searching and there's
a good example of manipulating the size of subplots using the `position`
argument (see pp. 202-203 in the Trellis Users Guide:
http://ml.stat.purdue.edu/stat695t/writings/Trellis.User.pdf). This is
not within the paneling environment with the headers like in other
trellis plots though, so you'll have to do a bit

That (the need for base graphics) is false. It certainly **can** be done in
base graphics -- see ?layout for a perhaps more straightforward way to do
it along the lines you suggest.
However both lattice and ggplot are based on grid graphics, which has a
similar but slightly more flexible ?grid.layout function which would allow
one to size and place subsequent ggplot or lattice graphs in an

Split charts with ggplot2, tidyquant
Hi Charlie,
Thanks. This is helpful. As mentioned in my original question, I want to be
able to plot a few such charts on the same page,
say a 2 x 2 grid with such a chart for each of 4 different stocks. Using
your solution I accomplished this by making
a list pLst of your ggplots and then calling cowplot::plot_grid(
plotlist=pLst, nrow=2, ncol=2 ) That worked fine.
The one issue I have is that

For this kind of control you will probably need to move to base graphics
and utilize the `fig` argument in par(), in which case you would want to
run the plot() command twice: once with your first outcome and once with
your second, changing the par() settings before each one to control the
size.

So the general strategy for getting these into separate panels in ggplot
is to have a single variable that will be your response and a factor
variable that indexes which original variable it came from. This can be
accomplished in many ways, but the way I use is with the melt() function
in the reshape2 package.
For example,
library(reshape2)
plotDF <- melt(SPYdf,

userdb username changed
Hi!
I'm playing with a postfix + dovecot + mysql test setup, and noticed
something strange. It seems that despite the "username changed" line,
auth returns the original username:

from directory: /usr/lib64/dovecot

Hi Charlie,
I am comfortable to put the data in any way that works best. Here are two
possibilities: an xts and a data frame.
library(quantmod)
quantmod::getSymbols("SPY") # creates xts variable SPY
SPYxts <- SPY[,c("SPY.Close","SPY.Volume")]
SPYdf <- data.frame(Date=index(SPYxts),close=as.numeric(SPYxts$SPY.Close),

filesystem is full ??
Hi All,
I try to test rsync on my notebook with Freebsd 5.2
I mount a dir to a win2000 hd with 80 gb free space as the BACKUPDIR

dev-ad0s1g.0.200406290920.dump.gz
end up with filesystem is full..
df show me enough space on local disc
if I run the script again I get the error

mdmonitor not triggering program on fail events
Hi,
Can anyone help me with this since I want to get it done "the correct
way"
I'm trying to make mdmonitor to execute a program when it detects a fail
event automatically.
Currently, from what I see, init is calling mdmonitor with these options
mdadm --monitor --scan -f
(note that the --program is not there)
and this is in my /etc/mdadm.conf

Could you provide some information on your data structure (e.g., are the
two time series in separate columns in the data)? The solution is fairly
straightforward once you have the data in the right structure. And I do
not think tidyquant is necessary for what you want.
Best,
Charlie

Problem Joining an XP CPU to Samba Domain
Hello,
I have an XP (SP2) CPU that has just been reloaded with the OS (hard drive
was reformatted).
The NIC works and I can access the Internet with no problem.
When I join the CPU to the domain (there are many other CPUs already on this
domain), it joins.
After the mandatory reboot, if I try to log in using a domain account, I get
an error saying the username and password are incorrect. I

RE: [R] Windows Printing and Line Widths
... Moved from R-help ...
Thank you for your suggestion, Professor Ripley. Postscript does seem
like the way to go for printing line widths correctly in Windows.
On Linux I am using a simple dev.print() wrapper (as suggested), with a
pipe to lpr.
However, I had an extremely difficult time getting postscript printing
under windows.
?postscript recommends the RedMon suite of tools for printing

Software RAID CentOS4
Hi,
I have a system with two IDE controllers running RAID1.
As a test I powered down, removed one drive (hdc), and powered back up.
System came up fine, so powered down installed a new drive (hdc)
And powered back up.
/proc/mdstat indicatd RAID1 active with hda only. I thought it would
Auto add the new hdc drive... Also when I removed the new drive and

avoiding termination of nls given convergence failure
Hello. I have a script in which I repeatedly fit a nonlinear regression to
a series of data sets using nls and the port algorithm from within a loop.
The general structure of the loop is:
for(i in 1:n){
… extract relevant vectors of dependent and independent variables …
… estimate starting values for Amax and Q.LCP…
