Samab and init.d
Is it better to start Samba using in initd, or to use the script, much like
the one provided by SuSE. ?? so far I have used the script, but I don't
like the fact of having to start samba manually. I would much prefer to
see it run as a service. just to confirm all it really involves is starting

Need Help: Sometimes Stop during smbd start
Hi
during Startup of SuSE-Linux 7.2 Prof. the PC is sometimes
( 1 of 10 times) stopping by start smbd. Reset knop the help
only. I have this problem with the samba version in SuSE
package and version 2.2.5 too. In the file ../rc3.d/S12smb I
added 2 lines to see if nmbd and smbd are startet.
I see nmbd is starting always, the text "SAMBA smbd
gestartet" is in case of fault not printing.

Htb, imq and sfq traffic shaping
Hello,
I wrote a simple traffic shaping script (below) that should have allowed me to shape my internet traffic a bit (ppp0 - adsl 128kbit/64kbit; local interface eth0).
The script works only partially - the speed is being limited but too much. Without running this script my download rate is about 10kBytes (with second computer also downloading at about 6kBytes). After running it my download speed

Using MGE UPS's with NUT and openSUSE
Dear List, I thought it might be useful if I wrote up my notes on getting
an MGE UPS to work with NUT and openSUSE.
The MGE UPS (an Ellipse 1500 USB) will work well with NUT and openSUSE
10.2, but not "out-of-the-box": there are some things you need to do:
Intro. MGE have built rpms of NUT which greatly simplify installation.
Merci MGE. I used the rpm's for nut-2.0.5 and the

timezones not properly reflected on timestamps of files
I have read the documentation, performed the diagnostic tests, checked
the archives, so if the answer is there, please accept my apologies in
advance and simply direct me.
I am running redhat Linux 2.0.3 and using smbmount to mount several
directories from NT3.51 servers which are distributed gloablly in
different timezones. Once mounted the files all have local timestamps
which makes syncing

[Bridge] Linux Bridge + STP + VLAN
Hi,
we're running the standard linux bridge setup (redundant bridge) for 5 years now. So first of all, thanks to everyone involved for implementing the bridging feature in Linux.
Now I'm trying to bridge hosts connected to VLAN'ed Cisco switches using linux bridge.
I'm testing the following setup (Kernel 2.6.19, bridge-utils 1.2 on both bridges)

Bug#408739: xen-utils-common: xendomans script sets WDOG_PID and then references WDOG_PIG
Package: xen-utils-common
Version: 3.0.3-0-2
Severity: normal
While reviewing the contents of /etc/init.d/xendomains, I noticed that
the script sets a variable named WDOG_PID but later references an
uninitialized variable named WDOG_PIG. I'm not sure how much this
impairs the behavior of Xen, so I left the severity at "normal". See
below for a simple patch:

checkproc
greetings,
trying to install netapplet (http://primates.ximian.com/~rml/netapplet/)
from source on a centos 4 laptop. ./configure, make and make install
all work fine, but when I then go to /etc/init.d to start netdaemon, it
complains that it cannot find checkproc. I can't seem to even find
anything on google for redhat or RHEL and checkproc or killproc. The
closest I came was finding

MS Visual Developer and Samba
I am running samba-2.0.3-8 on Redhat 6.2 in five global locations. All
are fine except one. In this location when a user runs MS Visual
Developer they are able to open, save compile and edit files just fine.
However when they type either [Enter] or [Bkspc] to add or delete a
line, in this case only MSVD hangs for several seconds. Insert several
lines and wait 1+ minutes!!! I have watched the

Bug#402974: xen-utils-common: xen domain do not always shutdown
Package: xen-utils-common
Version: 3.0.3-0-2
Severity: normal
Tags: patch
When shutting down xen domains with '/etc/init.d/xendomains stop' most
of the time not all domains are stopped when the script finishes.
As it turns out the xendomains-script queries running domains by
executing 'xm list', this command replies its usage info sometimes
instead of giving proper output. I

Network stops responding after some time
Hi there,
I''m using the Suse Enterprise 10 RC2 along with Xen 3.0.2 on X86-64 and I''m experiencing a problem with the network.
I boot into the Xen kernel and everything works just fine. I can browse the net etc.
However after a while the network stops responding completely. I am not sure what causes this to happen or what triggers it. After a few hours, the network just stops

Question about how TC enforces bandwidth limiting
Hello,
I run one of my PCs as my personal router, with iptables+tc to control
traffic and be my firewall.
In TC, I use a combination of htb, qdisc and sfq (as well as prio) to
classify bandwidth. In my current setup, I have 10 classifications of my
bandwidth. (Even I admit this is probably more than I need, but at this
point I''m still learning, so I''ll just leave them be.)

[LLVMdev] [PATCH] MC: handle .cfi_startproc simple
Really sorry I missed this. Just found it looking for something else
in my inbox.
I think we should support this but
* We should still err on other identifiers ".cfi_startport bar" is invalid.
* If I read the gas documentation correctly, the effect of "simple" is
to skip the initial cfi instructions. We should test if that is the
case and implement it too. Accepting and

Smooth mailbox to maildir migration
Hi all,
I have a postfix+procmail+dovecot installation, now running basicaly
on pop3 hence mailbox format, with few thousand users and less than
twenty gigabytes mail.
I need to move all of them to maildir, to take advantage of IMAP
subfolders that do not work with mbox format (so I'm told :).
Of course I cannot safely stop the service for more than a bunch of
seconds...
