[smbfs] Timing problems with kernel 2.2.x?
[Note: This has been posted to linux-kernel and was ignored. Since smbfs is maintained by the samba team, I am retrying here] Hi! To maintain and install packages from CD-ROM to my Debian/GNU Linux system, I use Debian's apt package. Since my Linux box is stowed away in a closet, I use an smbfs mount to mount the CD-ROM drive from my Windows desktop machine to the Linux box. This used to

2.0.6: HUP/charset/profiles/smbmount/logging
This is the list of problems I had with samba-2.0.6 so far. Can anyone tell me if he can reproduce them and if he considers them as problems? 2.0.6 on linux 2.2.13 or 2.0.33 1) sighup/log reopening doesn't always work: connections that are already active keep logging to the old logs; logrotate rotates/zip the logs and samba stops logging completely till restart. 2) Localized chars. Xen 3.0 User''s Manual
Hello all. I''m the tech writer at XenSource, Inc., and I''ve been asked to ride herd on getting the revised Xen 3.0 User''s Manual put together, reviewed, etc. We are targeting a review draft for 11/21 and it would be great if any significant additions or changes that any contributers might be making could get checked in before then so the review process can be as

2.0.6
Hi there, could anybody out there make a statement to when the new samba version is gonig to be released??? I do need it pretty urgently because of a file locking problem on a glibc 2.1 system... and I do need to know whether it's going to be out soon or I'll have to wait some - which would mean having to install another system in the meantime.... Bye, Jan

SAMBA WINS and Dynamic DNS
I'm sure that I'm not the first person to begin integrating SAMBA's WINS server abilities and the new BIND 8 'dynamic' DNS functionality. I downloaded the sample copy of "dns_update" by Stephen Rothwell <sfr@linuxcare.com> which provided a good starting point for creating the interface between Samba 2.0.6's WINS update notification and dynamic DNS updates.

Samba 2.0.6pre1 released
I've just released a snapshot of 2.0.6 in the alpha directory on samba.org. This is intended for testing to make sure some of the recent changes work well on a wider range of sites. I have also built a RedHat Linux 6.X RPM and put it in the same dircetory. If you are not running a mission critical site then we would appreciate feedback on this snapshot. If you have reported a bug in Samba

wins.dat to DNS
Hi, I'm wondering how to setup my DNS server (BIND 9.1.1) to read a zone from my wins.dat file. Is there a script I can use, or is there some other way to do it? I'm a linux newbie so a lot of info helps! Thanks, Jeff Nichols -------------- next part -------------- HTML attachment scrubbed and removed

rsync over ssh - lockups with pipe()
For a couple of years people have been reporting intermittent problems with rsync over ssh freezing during a large transfer (typically several GB). I have now gotten to the bottom of these problems, and have written a small test program which demonstrates a deadlock in sshd when doing large bi-directional transfers. Luckily the problem is easily solved by modifying sshd to use socketpair() instead

'path' entry and printing in smb.conf
Hi, Do I actually need a 'path' entry for each printer share defined in my smb.conf? Or is 'path' redundant in this case as the only relevance it has would be for the printing spool directory, which is defined by my /etc/printcap for all my printers anyway?? The man page for smb.conf seems to suggest that I do need a path entry, so should this be the same as the spool directory

Samba 1 vs. 2, locking and Windows Terminal Server Edition
On Samba 1.9.18p10 and previous versions, each of the multiple users on the same Windows Terminal Server Edition machine would get their own smbd process. With Samba 2.0.x (I'm currently testing 2.0.4b), this has changed so that every user on a WTSE machine uses the same smbd process. File ownerships are assigned correctly, but file locking does not work. If one user on a WTSE machine has a

wiki.centos.org .. what's next ?
it's all in the title : what's next for wiki.centos.org ? As a reminder, current wiki.centos.org instance is powered by moinmoin (https://moinmo.in/) but quite an old version (moin-1.5.8-3.el6.noarch) Recently I had a quick look at trying to update/upgrade that version to something newer/supported, but it's a nightmare : the data conversion just kill the target server (oom) and no

ip address of samba.org has changed
samba.org has moved and has a new IP address. You may find that some services are inaccessible until your local name server fetches the updated records. That should happen fairlly quickly, but please be patient. This affects the machines samba.org, cvs.samba.org and all email. The machine is now located in the Linuxcare offices in Canberra, Australia. It was located at the Australian National

Strange entry inthe log when using encrypted passwords
Hello, I want to set up my Samba-servers to use encrypted passwords (smbpasswd). First I enabled "Update Encrypted" to set the correct password and then I disabled "Update encrypted" and enabled "encrypted passwords". When I map up a share from the client everything is working ok, but in the log I have the following: [1999/11/09 21:37:10, 1] smbd/password.c:(532)

2nd try: sync of passwd and smbpasswd
Hello, I'm using samba2.02 and shadowed passwords. I' m on the way to migrate from plaintext to encrypted passwords. Therefore I've set the parameter update encrypted to "Yes". After everyone has logged in I will set this parameter to "No" again and set encrypted passwd = Yes. So far, so good. But three questions are remaining for me: a) what to do with those who
