Secure Share
I am trying to create an individual secure share in Samba. We have it loaded on a Solaris box and our users access the shares using Windows Explorer. It appears that everything I've read only allows me to create secure shares for all the shares. Is there a way to create individual secure shares? Those can be password protected or not. Thanks Scott Webb Senior Consultant, Booz Allen

samba will disappear from the win2000's network places
Dear all: I've found one strange things. I am using Red Hat Linux 5.2 and Samba 2.0.6. (I rebuild the RPM in RH 5.2) The samba is treated as a Server. Every windows 95/98/NT could access the samba server without problem. In windows 2000 RC2 (treated as client), it could access the samba server. But if I enable the "IP Security Policies on Local Machine". (You can enable

Roaming Profiles with Samba PDC
I have been working on this problem for quite some time now and have not been able to find the solution. I have Samba running on Debian Linux 3.0 (Woody) as a primary domain controller. From my Windows 2000 desktop I am able to browse that Linux server with Windows Explorer. My biggest problem is trying to log in to that domain. Under Windows 2000 I am able to join the domain (sjmlinux) but

Changes to the profile will not be propagated to the server." Then it says: "Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile. Changes you make..." looked all over now, tested variations

PDC Migration to Samba
Hi I've been trying to finally switch off our NT4 PDC over the last few months and transfer PDC duties to our Samba file server. Although I have no difficulty in getting the Samba box to authenticate users as the PDC, I have never been able to migrate the user's settings over. As far as the clients (NT4 and W2K) are concerned, users effectively start with a "clean slate" i.e.

Solaris 2.6 Samba 2.0.4b Server <-> Win 3.11 Client struggle
I have struggled with compiling 2.0.5a on Solaris 2.6 with gcc version 2.8.1 for the last couple of weeks (not a high priority project) and decided to try a precompiled version just in case I was being stupid. Well, perhaps I'm stupider (is that a word) than I thought because I installed the package and I still cannot connect. I have read through the docs and tried more than a few

NE00: printer files left behind on Samba shares
Hi We've noticed that we get zero length files left behind on Samba shares after printing to a Samba printer, of the form NExx: (appears as NExx~yy) from Windows due to name mangling. This only occurs in specific circumstances: Client running NT4 (SP6a) and Printing file on a Samba share and Printing to a Samba printer and Running particular applications (e.g. Word and Acrobat, but not

crypto-policies / per connection based config
EL8 workstation: crypto-policies is set to DEFAULT. I need to establish a VPN connection via NetworkManager (Gnome UI) that uses a legacy protocol. Downgrading the policies globally in /etc/crypto-policies/back-ends (I do it just for one backend) helps to establish the connection. To protect this workstation I want to have this config just for this connection (its openssl based that needs

Everything runs fine for 5-10 minutes, then one of the NT4 copies hangs with "Unable to copy file ... Session cancelled" or "Unexpected network error occurred". Typically one or other of the other NT4 copies also then fails. The

space in user dir?
This is obviously not a long term acceptable solution. Could someone please enlighten me as to the permanent solution, or at least see why it doesn't work? This is not my problem, therefore I have not had the opportuntity to test - I don't have a version that old. Let me know if it is solved in a newer version as well. Thanks. It is a workable solution, although the generally accepted

Theora Hardware: Integration with LEON is completed!
Hi, The Integration with LEON (first part of my GSoC) is completed. http://atlas.lsc.ic.unicamp.br/~andre.lnc/theora_integration_with_leon3_full.png At the last week I had (leon3 + linux + libtheora) and (leon3 + send_vector_of_input + theora hardware) working ok.
