file permissions and smbmount
I'm using Samba 2.0.6 on a Linux server.
When using smbmount or mount to mount a share from an NT server, how do I
set file permissions. An older smbmount allowed a -d and -f switch to set
the file permissions. The newest one does not support these. The man pages
for smbmount and smbmnt mention using syntax that does not work.
I finally have gotten the mount command to work, but now I

VMware
Anyone knows of an open mailing list / newsgroup about VMware? If such a
thing doesn't exist, I'll happily create one and, if not much of an
annoyance, advertise it here -- just once I promise! ;)
I'd like to discuss heavy-metal technical issues about the relationship
between VMware, the Linux kernel, X, Samba and the like.
Thank you for your kind attention.

Win95 and Smbmount
Hi,
When I "smbmount" a shareable drive on my linux box, the result of the "ls"
command
is often false.
(Kernel is compiled with "SMB Win95 bug work around" and "SMB filesystems
support",
Linux 2.0.34, RedHat 5.1, Samba 1.9.18p5)
What can I do to solve my problem ???
Thanks a lot for your help.

I have set up a samba server acting as a PDC but I have few problems. it
controls perfectly user logons and printer sharing (HP 4000 MV printers

Help 2.2.5 causing me to run out of filedescriptors
I've been running Samba & Squid on a RH linux server for years. I'm
currently running:
kernel - 2.4.9-31
squid - 2.4STABLE-6
/home - 100 GB Reiserfs partition
I just upgraded samba from 2.0.10 to 2.2.5 this morning. Now, the server is
running out of filedescriptors. I have never had this problem before. What
is 2.2.5 doing differently? How can I resolve this problem? Please help,

digest...
Hi
I get this mailing-list as a digest (as everyone does, i guess). This is
quite inconvinient for answering single questions.. I every digest there is
a message with Subject: Re: Samba dingest <NR>... This makes it hard to keep
track about whath message the replay is ment for.
Another problem is, that mime-attachments don?t seem to work. This is
especially bad, because some Microsoft

Problems with smbmount
I have a problem. When I mount my CD (witch is on WIN97 machine) using
smbmount I do not see all files in all dirs. If dir have more then, let say,
100 files (it is not the same every time), I do not see all files.
This is a problem because on my Linux box I do not have CD-ROM, so if I have
to install some packages I first have to copy rpm files on disk, and then
install them witch is annoying.

SWAT: How do I save the settings?
Hi,
I might have overlooked something very obvious, but:
I am running Samba 2.0.3 on a SuSE 6.0 system.
When I connect to SWAT, I can see all the settings in the Globals sections,
I can change them, but I can't find any button anywhere to *save* these
changes...
Can anyone help?

URGENT: REDHAT 6.1 STORES SAMBA PRIVATE FILES IN /etc
dear redhat,
i examined a friend's system today, to help him configure it. assuming
that he just "installed" from scratch the samba package, it appears that
you have provided a default smb.conf file for redhat 6.1 that puts samba
private configuration files in /etc. the suggested options, for example
show "smbpasswd file = /etc/smbpasswd".
this is REALLY bad.

Is 2.2.3/4 as reliable as 2.0.10?
I've been using 2.0.x on my servers for a couple of years & am a very, very
happy customer (thanks Samba team). There are only 2, albiet small,
annoyances. 1) Any account administration results in changes having to be
made on both the NT domain & linux server. 2) I can't do permissions for a
"group of groups" on the linux server. It seems that winbind might be able

Indiana timezone changing
I have a couple questions... I am in Indiana and our time zone is changing.
I used to choose America/Indiana/Indianapolis as the zone and we are
changing
to Eastern.
Question 1) Is there a command line only way to change my timezone?
I dont have access to X to run system-config-time. Doing a
"system-config-time --help"
or "system-config-time -h" did not give any information.

Bode plots in ggplot2
Hello,
I am trying to figure out how to make a bode plot (a.k.a. bode
diagram) in ggplot2.
An example of such a diagram can be found here:
http://meweb.ecn.purdue.edu/~me475/ctm/freq/bode2.GIF
The example above shows the gain and phase characteristic of a linear system.
In my case, I would like to compare visually several systems on the
same diagram.
The data in the data frame is arranged
