HPUX shared memory creates error
Hello all,
The problem
-----------
I've been trying to install the latest samba distrib (2.0.5a) on a hpux
10.20 machine, but the connection times out, apparently because of
shared memory access.
Trying to make an smbclient connection (or using the windows nt explorer
to connect generates the following log.smb (smbd launched as smbd -D -d

Apache won't start, semaphores exhausted
One of our systems run Apache 2.0.52 (httpd-2.0.52-12.2.ent.centos4
rpm). The kernel we're running is 2.6.9-11.ELsmp. After a few weeks
of uptime, Apache refuses to start with the following error in
error.log:
[crit] (28)No space left on device: mod_jk: could not create jk_log_lock
With Apache not running, there're a lot of semaphores left behind by
Apache, e.g.:

semget() failed
Hello,
I'm trying to port RPL/2 (http://www.rpl2.net) to OS/2 and I don't
understand OS/2 semget(). RPL/2 uses POSIX semaphores. I have written a
minimal library that emulates POSIX semaphores with SysV ones. I have
tested this library on several Unix systems without any trouble.
On OS/2, semget() always returns -1 and I don't understand my mistake.

POSIX semaphores in CentOS 5.1?
According to the man pages for sem_wait, etc., POSIX semaphores are
available in Linux 2.6 (with the right NTPL threading in glibc).
However, I have a program that compiles just fine but won't link because it
can't find the library for the semaphore operations.
What am I missing?
I ran a find and grep through all the libc's on the system and they turned
up nothing:
$ find /lib

Any alternatives for the horrible reposync
Hi,
I'm currently trying to mirror a couple of yum repositories and the only
tool that seems to be available for this is reposync.
Unfortunately reposync for some inexplicable reason seems to use the yum
config of the local system as a basis for its work which makes no sense
and creates all kinds of problems where cache directories and metadata
gets mixed up.
Are there any alternatives? Some

how to calculate how many semaphores already use on server?
we have following setup on sysctl.conf:
kernel.sem = 256 32000 128 142
I tried to startup database and have error happen. I knew problem come from SEMMNS (32000) is not enough. Does anyone know how to calculate how many semaphores already use on system?
Thanks.

works with webrick,lighty, not mongrel
Hello,
I''ve been working away to setup mongrel as my production server, however I
am running into an odd problem and am not sure where to investigate for the
answer.
When I run using mongrel_rails start most things work fine, but a I get a
few inexplicable undefined method errors, for example:
undefined method `send_qbxml'' for #<Sync:0x2aaaafa7aa78>
The method is

Does shorewall change Kernel parameters?
I have a server that runs shorewall lite. This server has a custom
configuration of the semaphore setting. The configuration is set in
/etc/sysctl.conf . It works fine most of the time.
We have a daemon that crashes, we found that is a semaphores config issue.
After the crash we found that semaphore parameters are reseted to defaults.
The only event we found is a reload of firewall rules.

Confused - better empirical results with error in data
Hi,
I have a strange one for the group.
We have a system that predicts probabilities using a fairly standard svm
(e1017). We are looking at probabilities of a binary outcome.
The input data is generated by a perl script that calculates a bunch of
things, fetches data from a database, etc.
We train the system on 30,000 examples and then test the system on an
unseen set of 5,000 records.

SIP calls cause Segmentation Fault
I have an asterisk installation at a client, it's quite simple.
Basically it's an asterisk downloaded from CVS about
a week ago, with 3 Zaptel FXO cards (the digium ones)
and 10 Grandstream Budgettone SIP phones ...
Every now and then, especially when a call is ringing
and not picked up immediately, Asterisk quits with
a segmentation fault error. IT seems quite inexplicable,

Compile Problem with 2.05a under Linux
I'm using Samba 2.03 under Slackware Linux and wish to upgrade to 2.05a,
but have been unable to compile from source. My system is Slackware
linux, kernel 2.2.9 running on a Pentium-200. I searched the current
mailing list archive for anyone with similar problems to no avail, so
I'm posting here.
Here is the output from 'make', after typing: './configure

Serious NAT problems: can't call between lines on sipura
I have a problem that is almost certainly nat-related, but I can't figure
out what's happening.
Since moving the Sipura behind a NAT server (Linksys), I am no longer able
to call between the two lines on the same Sipura. When I dial one
extension from the other, it rings, but immediately after I pick up the
ringing phone, the call is uncerimoniously dumped. I can tell the call

My question on creating binaries
Hi People
Thanks to all who replied I did not word the question very
well. I had a problem in compiling the binaries on one machine then moving
them to another where they would not work. What I did not know then was that
the semaphores were not cleared when samba 1.9.18p1 was stopped so I got a
shared memory and semaphores error. Cleared it by rebooting after installing
the new bins.
Thanks

SUNOS: Samba grabs all semaphores
Ole,
Semaphores are a very cheap system resource in SunOS 4.1.x. You can easily
bump up the max number using adb, without even recompiling the kernel.
