"Parameter is incorrect"
I set up a new printer on my Linux box, an Epson Stylus Color 740. I had previously been using an EPson Stylus Color IIs. I got the printer working nicely in Linux, but I can not print to the printers I set up in /etc/printcap via samba from NT anymore. I.e., it worked with the IIs, but not with the 740. I didn't change anything in smb.conf. NT lets me install the printers via samba, but

PLEASE help with printing problem
I can't seem to find an answer or a workaround, and I've received stoney silence on this one. There aren't any answers in the archives (well, I didn't find any in the hours on several days I spent, anyhow). I'm convinced that I can't be the *only* one with this problem, nor am I convinced that there is absolutely no one who can help. Please feel free to jump in with

Printing to samba server doesn't work
Well, not like it should. I can capture a printer with the "net use lpt1:" command, but I would really like to be able to print to any one of the three printers in my printcap. NT gives me the error: "The parameter is incorrect". I attached the error message screen below, in .png format. This worked for the last printer I had. All I changed was the printer and the

Password caching and smbsh
First off, I don't know if this is password caching revisited with a vengeance or what. It's very inconsistent for the amount of time the share will stay mounted. I *think* the following are the relevant messagess in the log: Jun 23 22:24:36 reliant kernel: smb_trans2_request: result=-32, setting invalid Jun 23 22:24:36 reliant kernel: smb_retry: caught signal And of course, I get the

mounting NT 4.0 WS shares w/Linux
Running NT 4.0 WS SP 5 and samba 2.0.5a on Linux, 2.2.12 kernel. Whenever I mount an NT share from Linux, it times out after an indeterminate period of time. This has been a continuing problem, the only workaround being to perform something requiring disk activity on the NT box, bypassing the cache (i.e., ls > /dev/null doesn't work, but df does). This must be done on a regular

Samba can't keep NT shares mounted
I don't know who this problem belongs to, samba or Linux, but it's a common one, judging by the responses in my INBOX to a previous post. Plus, it's a fairly serious one; many applications require smb shares to be mounted continuously and without interruption. It's been a recurring problem which seems to have been pushed off to the side as not important, even though it's a

Problems with printers
I'm having a couple of problems getting samba to process /etc/printcap properly. Problems with CUPS and a networked epson printer
I have an Epson Stylus Color 880, connected to our network via an external ethernet printserver. I used to run lprng on the samba server (which is a domain controller), and the Windows clients had one minor problem accessing this printer via Samba (2.2.3a, then): Every time a client wanted to print, the Epson status monitor on the client would complain about communication problems with the

freebsd and smbmount
Hi, I don't know how many people on this list use samba with freebsd , but I have a question. I have samba set up and can connect to my other win conputers using smbclient but I am told that freebsd does not have smbmount. i need to mount my win hard drives in order to back them up. Is this possible some way with samba under freebsd. Thanks Rick -- Rick Knebel rknebel@uplink.net

Samba Printing to Win98
I am trying to allow printing from my linux box to my win98 box, to which my epson stylus printer is attached. It's just not happening...something tells me I'm flirting with a world of pain. I *can* print a file by going: smbclient //rory/EPSON translate print /etc/group but I cannot print from applications, nor can i use smbprint. I tried going: cat /etc/passwd | sh -x smbprint

Cannot access nt shares after a few minutes
Hi, I´ running samba 2.0.5a and Linux 2.2.5. After smbmount sucessfully mounted my four nt-shares it lost the connection after 15 or more minutes. I´ve no idea why. The log reads smb_retry: signal failed: error=-3 I can remount all shares every 5 minutes but this doesn´t seem to be a good solution. Anyone who has a fix for this?

mounting a windows zip drive
Hello, I have a Zip drive on my Windows machine, shared to the network. I can get to the drive through smbclient, but would like to mount it to my main Linux box to do backups. The Zip drive is known as \\mark\d to the network, and I would like to mount it to /mnt/zip However, smbmount is not able to mount it, nor am I able to mount it via smbclient. Anyone have this already working?
