Favorite print command for SAMBA on Sol 2.5.1
I am having problems with the HP printers that are being handled by a Solaris 2.5.1 machine. The boring details are towards the end. The SAMBA print command I currently use is: print command = echo %u - %s to %p at %T >> /tmp/smb-print.log ; \ lpr -P %p %s ; \ rm %s ; These are EXACTLY the way they are in the smb.conf file. The server will print 99.9% of

Anyone successfully using a HP 8000 DN (with JetDirect module and IP) with samba?
Anyone successfully using a HP 8000 DN or HP 5 Lsi (with JetDirect module and assigned IP) with samba? Subject says it all. If you're successfully doing this, what configs made it work? FAQs tell how to set up with a print server, but what if the printer itself is the server? Trust me, the HP doesn't know jack about port 139. Using samba 2.0.4 on Solaris 7 and NT 4.0 SP5 with

Jet Direct Printers and Plotters
We have a HP Design Jet 650C Plotter which is hooked to the net via a jetdirect nic. Now I dont have a clue on how to use this plotter over the net. It doesent show up in the network neighborhood and I cant find anything about jetdirect plotters in the Linux documentation or the inet. The server is running Suse Linux 6.2 and Samba 2.05a. HP Jetdirect, Intel Netport, Samba, And Windows XP
Hello, I have a bunch of Windows XP Pro machines, Samba 2.2.4, and several plotters on Jetdirect cards, and several printers on Netport 10/100 Muli-port network print servers. I have successfully configured Samba 2.2.4 to allow Windows XP to join the domain controlled by Samba and automaticaly create its own computer account on Samba. I would now like to setup Samba to share all the printers

Samba, CUPs & Win2000 printing
I'm very new to Linux and Samba so bear with me - I am migrating our business to a Linux/Samba network from an NT network - using Samba as a PDC. We are running RH7.3, Samba v2.2.7a, and CUPS v1.1.14 I have a test network set-up which includes the Linux/Samba PDC server, a Win2000 client and a HP Jetdirect network printer (Laserjet 4Si) Domain logons and filesharing works fine, but I

Printing banners
Hi I'm running Samba 2.2.8a on a UnixWare 7.1.3 box. I'd set up the Samba printer shares, and it seemed to be working fine (only live for a couple of weeks). However, I've just added some heavy users, and the printer daemon keeps bombing out. I'd configured the printers to use lpr, but someone suggested I should use lp, so I thought I'd give this a go at the weekend.

Network printer question
Howdy Folks: This may be slightly (but not entirely) off-topic for this list, but I'm sure there are some real gurus out there who should know this (and I've seen a number of related questions) so here goes: We just got a new HP8100DN printer. The guy didn't want to let me do the samba printserver thing, nor did he put it on a windoze box - he put it directly on the network

samba setup.exe rant part 2
this was previously posted only on samba-ntdom, but that was probably not the right list so i'm cross-posting to both samba and samba-ntdom. here's the problem: on NT4 w/ SP4 or SP5, self-extracting 16-bit install files work just fine in directories w/ Long File Names. on SAMBA 2.0.5a, i can get none of the aforementioned files to install from directories w/ Long File Names. a good

Print jobs merging?
I have a problem going on here, that I hope someone out there may be able to help solve. We run SAMBA 1.16p11 under Solaris 2.5 to serve about 60 Win95 clients. Thirty of these clients are printing to three HP laserjet printers, each printer with a JetDirect card which uses lpsched on the Solaris server as their print spooler. These spools have been defined as BSD-type devices under sysv's

Printer connection question
Hello, Is it possible to set up a printer on a Sun Solaris (sparc 2.6) machine and have it properly print to an HP Laserjet printer without the use of jetdirect? I'm trying to print to an NT controlled printer using Samba on the Sun machine. I've been trying to utilize the "smbprint" command, however I'm having all kinds of problems. On the Sun machine, I add the printer

I can't get Broadcast packets?
Hello, where is the FAQ on networking(Broadcast probes for hpjetadmin and other lowlevel hocus pockus) in wine, Half-Life and hpjetadmin don't seem to send probe/broadcast packets. I have tryed as a user and as root /w no change in my findings. Other PCs on the net don't show traffic in there tcpdump logs. It seams that jetadmin.exe dose not allow you to key in an IP(Currently

samba + cups
Hello everyone I hope this is not off topic. The samba + cups thing is driving me nuts. Samba runs as PDC and print server. Everything is fine, printing works, automatic driver download works etc. Now I want only certain people to be able to stop a printer under windows. After digging around a bit I set my cupsd.conf file up like so: <Policy default> <Limit Send-Document

How to set up spooling for a HP JetDirect interface?
I've set up Samba and LPRng for HP printers with JetDirect cards. It works for one user at a time. But if the printer is off-line or busy, the samba client does not get an error message, but the job gets lost. :( I would like the print jobs to be spooled on Linux even when there is an active print job or when the printer is off-line. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with lpd. The

Windows95 ARPing like crazy
Hi again, I realize this is generally not the place for this question but this is always where the answers are so here goes. We have a couple of win95 Pcs that regularly go nuts and arp foreach IP address on their subnet. The resulting broadcast storm is make even worse because of the inability of our net. admin. to 1) explain it 2) contain it 3) fix it (not too bright). I checked the registry

SysV interface script
A long time ago, on a mailing list far away, I promised to send the SysV interface script that I use with success; the supplied one is a bit, err, basic... Well, one thing led to another, and I quite forgot, so without further ado, here it is (usual disclaimers): #!/bin/sh # # This interface script drives a PC-attached printer via the SAMBA utility. # # This script is a gross simplification of

IP printing to Jetdirect boxes
All, Hey hey, am new so if this is way basic, flame on. ;-) I have a Dell Poweredge 2300 running RedHat 6.0 and whatever versions of samba and such that are part of that distribution. Samb 'works' from the standpoint of file sharing and printing in a sense. The issue is that the printer is an HP Laserjet 4 connected via an external HP Jetdirect box running IP. The only connection to

jetdirect printer configuration
I am trying to set up a jetdirect plotter in our network (samba server running un suse linux 6.2). When I start printing from on of the windows boxes everything seems fine but the printing files only show up in the spooling directories on the samba server. The plotter (HP Designjet 650 C) never receives anything. Here are the relevant parts of my smb.conf and my printcap file: PRINTCAP:
