Authentication problems after upgrading to 3.0.23c
Hi there, Since upgrading our debian sarge boxes to 3.0.23c, we have found that we are unable to connect to shares using the official hostname of the servers (short or fully qualified) but can still use its netbios aliases (again, short or fully qualified). As nothing else has changed in our configuration, I think that the change of behaviour is down to the newer release and can find nothing in

Match Principal enhancement
AFAIK everything you described here could be done using the AuthorizedKeysCommand or AuthorizedPrincipalsCommand directives. These can emit authorized_keys options (inc. permitopen) as well as the allowed keys/principals. pam_ldap for unix accounts, smbpassword for samba?
Is this setup possible? I am converting an old server to look on LDAP for its UNIX account info. I am able to auth in every way with a LDAP-only user (login, telnet, ssh, su). However, after adding the user with smbpasswd -a, the password doesn't work: [root@furnsrv log]# smbpasswd -a testuser New SMB password: Retype new SMB password: Added user testuser. [root@furnsrv log]# smbclient

smbpassword modification & logon scripts
Hello! I've got two questions for which I haven't been able to find an answer after searching the web and the list archives. * Is it in any way possible to, from a per-user logon script, find out if the user belongs to a specific Unix group? I guess this would get pretty tricky, but is it possible at all? * I need to create a script/program that removes a user from a Unix system. The

g729 license question
I am wondering how the g729 licenses are done during calls. If I have N licenses for g729, and N are in use and an additional call comes in that requests N+1 to be in use, how does asterisk handle that call? Does it dump it? Does it negotiate another codec automagically? Basically what happens to that call, obviously it wont (shouldnt) let you use more licenses than you have available, but

Penalty in queues.conf
It's so you can have agents that are less likely to take calls (e.g. imagine a sales queue, you'd have the sales people with no penalty, you might have the receptionists with a penalty of 1 and us propeller heads in technical support with a penalty of 2). The technical support people would only be offered a call from the sales queue if all the sales people and the receptionists were busy.

variable share connect times ... how to speed up ?
All - Many apologies if the following is covered in the documentation, but I've looked through it all and can't find it. My question: what conditions affect the speed with which samba allocates a share requested by a client and how can I speed up the process ? Background: I have a number of NT 4/SP 4 clients accessing a number of Unix boxes running samba 2.0.6 which are, in turn,

nt pipe support and nt smb support in smb.conf
Regards, This is kind of urgent (isn't everything nowadays :-). Historically, our samba servers need to run with the two 'untouchables' "nt pipe support" and "nt smb support" both set to "no" (non default) based on a recommendation by one of our software vendors. These settings in smb.conf now prevents WIN2K SP2 clients from creating directories on the

Match Principal enhancement
Hi OpenSSH devs, I?m wondering if the following has any merit and can be done securely ... If you could match on principals in the sshd_config, then (for example) on a gateway machine, you could have something like /etc/ssh/authorized_keys/sshfwd: cert-authority,principals=?batcha-fwd,batchb-fwd? ... /etc/ssh/sshd_config containing: Match User sshfwd PubkeyAuthentication yes

'credentials' file doesn't work - also observed by others
Background: Linux, Debian (Sarge). I want to auto-mount an smbfs at boot. smbmount version is 3.0.7-Debian. With the following in my fstab, I can do the mount as root, but have to provide a password (hence either I can't boot unattended, or can't mount it during boot): //<server>/<share> /mnt/point smbfs

[NetBIOS] Registering new name?
Hello I'm having a hard time finding information about NetBIOS. Maybe someone here has good experience with this API, so I figured I could try asking here, although the question is specifically on how to use NetBIOS in an all-Windows LAN from Visual Basic :-/ I'm trying to register a new name on a server so that clients can locate it by broadcasting its NetBIOS name. At this point,

Axis Location/Data view in scatterplot3d
All, I constructed a fairly simple plot using the below and scatterplot3d. However, the axis locations in scatterplot3d seem to 'hide' quite a bit of the points in my graphic based on the viewing angle, hence not adhering to Tufte's rules. I tried to determine if I could rotate the graph and relocate all three axis (origin (0, 0, 0))so they would be at the back left so the

samba credentials file - hit and miss?
Greetings, I'm using a CentOS 5.4 Virtual Machine and Samba 3.0.33-3.15.el5_4 to access a file share from a Windows XP host. I also tried the same using a Fedora 10 VM with the same negative results. Please read on. I've browsed the web and read the mount.cifs man page. And the conclusion is the same: you connect to a share using a username and password and you're good to to. Or,

Problem with read.table()
Dear all, I have encountered a strange problem with read.table(). When I try to read a tab delimited file I get an error message for line 260 not being equal to 14 (see below). Using count.fields() suggests that a number of lines have length not equal to 14, but not 260. Looking at the actual file, however, I cannot see anything wrong with any lines. They all seem to have length 14, there
