AutoCAD R14 and Eagle Point
Samba List:
Is anyone out there using AutoCAD R14 and Eagle Point? One of my clients
received the latest version of Eagle Point, and the time to load files has
become horrible. It has increased from 1 min to 15 min!
All files are on the Linux server and the stations we did the initial tests
with are PIII w/128MB RAM. The AutoCAD file loads quick, but once the
Eagle Point files begin to load

Eagle Point upgrade causes problems
Samba Users:
One of my clients is using Samba 2.0.3 on Linux 5.0 with approximately 25
clients. This particular client is an architectural and civil engineering
group using AutoCAD R12 for all their drawings. One of the add-on programs
the civil engineering techs use is Eagle Point of which they just received
an "upgrade".
Prior to the upgrade load times were acceptable at about one

I'm a new linux user trying to run samba on Linuxppc R5 but smbd doesn't
appear to be responding properly. Both nmbd and smbd are configured as
daemons and netstat lists netbios-ssn as listening. I can't find anything
else that would conflict starting from inetd. Nmbd appears to work as I can
list the available servers and the server is seen by the clients but I don't

failed to set socket options
Samba Users:
We have Samba v1.9. and are having a small difficulty with the "socket
options" and "??? timeout" parameters. When we set it to ?TCP_NODELAY,
our log file indicates "Failed to set socket option TCP_NODELAY". This
also happened on an earlier version of Samba as well. Has anyone else
had a similar problem and found a solution?
Also, when setting

which NIC to use?
Samba users:
We have a client we are trying to resolve some Samba transfer problems
with. We currently are using a 3Com 3C905B 10/100 NIC which has been
successfully configured and works at 100Mbps but doesn't seem to be
transferring at what it could be.

very confusing problem, part II
Samba Users:
Here's a summary for several responses I have received since my original
posting yesterday. Thanks for your help.
Jan Kratochvil had a suggestion on running 'tcpdump' obtained from the
Samba site. I did this for the station having difficulty, and the program
core-dumped. From reading the resulting output created, that data starts to
transfer and then becomes 0000 values.

Problem with smbclient->MSDOS Server
Hi All,
Here's an interesting one... I need to be able to connect smbclient on a
linux machine to a dos based machine, which is running MSCLIENT and the
WG1049 patch. I can browse to the machine and see all the files from
Network Neighbourhood in Windows, but if I try and go in with:
smbclient \\GAUGE1\C, or even just smbclient -L GAUGE1
all I get is:
Added interface ip=10.0.1.1

Seeking optimal mixture
This is maybe not directly an R problem but I have used R to try to solve
it so I think somebody may be able to help.
I have a mixture model with three components and a quadratic Scheffe
polynomial p1x1+p2x2+p3x3+p12x1x2+p13x1x3+p23x2x3 fitted to the response.
Now I'd like to compute the mixture corresponding the maximum response.
Model for Y1 has the parameters
p1=124.02
p2=60.973
p3=41.479

Problem with smbclient
Hi!
I have a problem with smbclient and the option -M.
I'd like to send Winpop Messages to my Windows Clients.
I have noticed that command only works with short hostnames.
I have for example a win95test1.no.domain host. Name resolution is done
by
bind 8 on the samba box.
if I do
echo "Test PopupMessage" |smbclient -M win95test1
it works. (The winpopup.exe program is of course

LAN (Samba1.9.18p4) from this computer. We allready chenced the Win98

Is there any known problem that occred beteen Win98 and a Samba server?

covariates in nlmer function
I am trying to explore nlmer by running some nlme examples from Pinheiro
& Bates (2000). I do not seem to find information how to specify fixed
effects covariates to nlmer models. Specifically, I tried to run the
"Carbon Dioxide Uptake" example from p. 368 onwards in the PB200 book.
The model without fixed effects covariates runs well but how to tell

SMBClient authentication failing, always connecting as "Guest"
Hi:
I'm running Samba 1.9.18p10 on a RedHat 5.1 linux with kernel 2.1.124.
My compile options were: -DLINUX -DALLOW_CHANGE_PASSWORD
-DFAST_SHARE_MODES -DNO_ASMSIGNALH -DGLIBC2
(incidently, I had to edit includes.h somewhat to get stuff to compile
under this config. There were several definition conflicts and missing
defs.)
Whenever I make a smbclient connection to our nt servers, my

nls.control(minFactor=yy) with no apparent success. A call of

Also the estimation terminates as

location of Tisean executables when using RTisean and jumping between linux and windows
Hi,
I wonder if someone could help. I needed to transfer (copy) a workspace
file that had been generated in linux (R 2.11) to windows running the
same version of R 2.11 (but of course windows binary). Usually, there is
no problem in doing this and all objects work as expected. I am often
doing this to be able to produce wmf or emf graphic files that I need.
This time I had some spectra that I

residual standard error in rlm (MASS package)
Hi,
I would appreciate of someone could explain how the residual standard
error is computed for rlm models (MASS package). Usually, one would
expect to get the residual standard error by
> sqrt(sum((y-fitted(fm))^2)/(n-2))
where y is the response, fm a linear model with an intercept and slope
for x and n the number of observations. This does not seem to work for
rlm models and I am wondering
