Subject: Samba and Seagate BackupExec
Hi Franck,
to my knowledge, the Backup Exec service "runs" under a certain user. In
most cases it is the user who installed it, so very often "Administrator".
Now if you try to backup a Samba share, Backup Exec tries to retrieve the
files of this share and has to authenticate to the Samba Server. I suspect
it will do this with the "credentials" of the user the Backup

Samba and Seagate BackupExec
Hi,
I've got Samba 2.0.2 on a Linux Red Hat 5.2 and a server NT4 SP3 with
Seagate BackupExec 7.0.
When I want to backup Samba with Seagate BackupExec, I get a message
saying "Unable to connect to server, <F5> to retry", and then another
one saying "A device specific error occured".
I've read all the Samba archive about that subject, but I do not find

XP 2.2.8a issues
I have some 30 XP boxes in one offices joined to a w2k domain. The w2k
server has no problem mapping drives on the samba server, however, the
XP workstations refuse. Put in user name and password in the box after
mapping, and it just pops back up like you've entered a wrong pass/user
name. I have changed signorseal to 0 in registry to no avail. Of
course, when the server was NT4, I

TDB file format???
Hi.
I want to use NT usernames / passwords from my PDC for loging in my
server. I also want to use NFS between various UNIX machines I have. The
problem is that I already have a database of username <-> UID maping (each
user that has an NT username got an unique UID when he got a username).
Now I want to translate this my UID database into winbindd UID tdb
database, however I don't know

Backup problem too with Seagate BackupExec
Hi,
I'm searching for 2 months on this problem (I've searched in the archive
of course and I've sent a message on this mailing list, the suggestions
had helped me but I didn't manage to resolve the problem).

problem running logon script
Hello.
We have at the firm a Windows 2000 Domain Controler. I recently configured
a linux box, configured samba and joined the Win2000 DC. Everything went
fine, i can connect to the Win DC, but i have a problem. On the DC there
is a logon script, that basically defines a place on the Win DC where
certain programs should keep their files and maps on every client two
shares, that again reside on the

MYOB Performance issues on Samba
I am experiencing a performance issue with MYOB accounting package being
served from a Debian 2.4.18 based server running samba. Clients are
Win2K/WinXP clients in a small workgroup environment, all maping drive
to samba 'data' share. Network is pure TCP/IP, no other (MS or Samba)
servers on LAN.
I've experimented with Oplocks and veto oplocks but to no result the

too many rsync process's?
This is my first post here for a reason, rsync has run great on our system
for over 2.5 years now, it seams. I just recently took over this contract
from another IT person who decided to stop showing up to this location. I
had the pleasure of maping out their network of 5 servers and 40
workstations, with no info from anyone who works their (they just dont know
anything). I just recently started

how to test membership with samba
Hi,
i installed samba 3.0.7 with ldap 2.1.30-3 and idealx-tools 0.8.5 on a
Debian sarge. Maping home directories for each user works fine. My goal
is now to map a network drive for all members of a group.
For example : if someone logs in and is member of group1 then he has a
drive letter J: maping at /home/group1
I read about ifmember.exe tools from windows NT but it doesn't works.

wbinfo --> Could not remove gid to sid mapping
Hi,
I am struggeling with some group mapping problem for quite some time ...
Now i figured out, that a wrong gid<->sig Mapping is stored somewhere:
wbinfo --gid-to-sid=<guid of interest>
--returns-> <wrong sid>
other way round:
wbinfo --sid-to-gid=<wrong sid>
--returns-> <guid of interest>
So what i want to do is remove this faulty mapping.

Unix permission problems with 'attrib'
Hi,
I'm been using Samba for some time and I have been bugged by a problem with SourceSafe. I finally took some time to see what is going on and found the source of the problem (well, not in the source code though).
I'm partially responsible, I have Unix files with the following rights "r--rw---" and Samba does not deal with these very well. I am now makind sure that this case

new-attrib lost when calling through pop3
Hi,
I noticed, that all messages are moved from new/ to cur/ (using
maildirs) after the authentication in pop3, even before the list
command. I'm working with 1.0-stable-20050426. Why is this done?
Shouldn't a message keep it's new-attrib as long as it isn't retrieved?
This is how it worked with qmail-pop3d. Through imap, it works
correctly. It's just sad if I can't

Visualage Gen seems to need extended attrib of a file
We can't run VisualAge Generator (2.X) retriving files from the samba
server (AIX). (we receive smberror: ErrDos 282 )
It seems to require to read the extended attrib to find out the version
of the file (and until now I can't realize what else). Is there any
workaround or patch to get rid of it? Can Samba works fine with this
kind of application?
Thanks in advance,

"attrib +R myowndir" fails to write-protect my owndir
I hope Time won't take me to a CDMA court martial in Guantanamo for
unfair use of your quotes, Daniel!
The point is that each norm is only really valid in its original
context. It is the spirit of the norm which should guide us. The idea
is: you slap an unorthodox attribute onto an object to evoke any kind
of practical magic and then laugh your sides off. Who cares?
The same with Readonly.

Unable to add attrib +r for directory
Hi all
I have a Samba PDC (samba 3.0.21c) with Openldap , and a BDC (samba 3.0.21c)
with slave ldap server.
I have some foxpro files on the share created on BDC, and the users logon on
and access
the foxpro files on the shares declared on BDC. In the fox pro program uses
attrib command to make
file /directory read only and remove read only. but when users tries to use
attrib command, it says

Hi Everybody,
I've recently installed 2.2.5 on a SuSE 8.1 box and found a
discrepancy. I've scanned the whole mailing list for the problem but
only found several postings claiming it not resolving it.
In short:
