HELP: problem getting Samba to connect - "ERRSRV - ERRinvnetname"?
Dear list readers: I've installed the most recent Samba from source on my Redhat Linux server. The simple file share I've made shows up, the machine pings correctly, and does ftp and apache fine, but won't let anyone login to Samba. For example: $ smbclient '//WWW.PSYCH.UDEL.EDU/SIMPLE/' -U me added interface ip=128.175.41.164 bcast=128.175.41.255 nmask=255.255.255.0

tree connect failed: ERRSRV - ERRinvnetname (Invalid network name in tree connect.)
Hi all, I have been receiving the error "tree connect failed: ERRSRV - ERRinvnetname (Invalid network name in tree connect.)" for a while and I finally fixed it, but I have some questions about why it was happening. Firstly, it is Samba 2.0.7 running on Mandrake 8.0. My smb.conf file is at the end of this message. The machine's name is pinhead and in checking log.pinhead, I

Spaces in WinME Directory Names
Hello! I've finally gotten Samba and WinME to connect and see each other. On my WinME box I've got the usual My Documents folder which I'd like my Linux box to be able to use. I think there's a problem with the space in the directory name. smbmount //WinME/My Documents ~/mountpoint 2854: tree connect failed: ERRSRV - ERRinvnetname (Invalid network name in tree connect.) Installation Help, Please !!!
I have been having some difficulty with the installation of samba V2.0.3 on an ultraSparc 3000 server. I was able to get it built, I have configured, defined an smb.conf file, created an smbpasswd file, and I still get errors when I work through the Diagnosing Samba checklist. BTW, I have checked the conf file using testparms and corrected the problem mentioned there! I am using the newest source

run prog to create policy? + our setup
Hi Is it possible to give users a different policy? If it's not possible by default, can I do it with preexec? Wasn't there an option to let a file contain the output of a program, and each time it is read, the output is piped instead of contents of a file? Because I think that would be safer, than a preexec that replaces my policy file, because when other users log in at exactly the same

Installation test fails: 2.04b
I'm brand new to Samba and I am trying to set in up on our network (linux OS). We have two windows clients: a notebook running win95 (soon to be win98) and a virtual machine running win98. Right now, the host is running RH 5.2 with the 2.0.36 kernel. Samba-2.04b was installed from the rpm. I'm using Carter and Sharpe's "Teach Yourself Samba in 24 Hours" as my guide. On

I just installed Samba for the first time. Installed and setup like a dream. Unfortunately, I can't login to save my life. The server appears in the Net. smbmount error
I posted a similar email recently regarding this. One thing has changed, however; I have upgraded my kernel to 2.2.6 (hence I'm now using the samba version of smbmount rather than the smbfs version). I get the error "no such device" when trying to mount a network drive. My command line is: smbmount "\\\\susangra\\c-hd" -c 'mount /mnt' the console text which

Server problem - Temporary directory set wrong?
Hi there, I am experiencing some odd behaviour with my samba server (version 2.0.7 running on mandrake 8.0). The server comes up ok and appears on the browse list, but you cannot list the shares on it. SMBFS stack overflow?
Sorry about the previous message... Note that the maintainer listed in MAINTAINERS is no longer active, so perhaps it should be updated? I've found a problem with SMBFS and *really* long pathnames. It causes the kernel to OOPS, and sometimes corrupts the kernel stack. I've even had it corrupt the SLAB allocator so bad that no binary could be run :) REPORTING-BUGS format answers, let

Attaching to Netware-Server
Dear listmembers, recently our sysadmin turned off the support for ipx-protocol. Since then I found no way to mount my home-directory on the net (novell) on my linux box. Using ipx, I had had the same servername etc) I found a lot of discussions about the way vice versa, but no FM I could R to manage around this issue (i.e. mounting a Netware volume on a linux box). Anybody out there having an
