SV: SAMBA digest 2210
Hi there,
When I compile, install and run Samba 2.0.5a on an AIX 4.3.2 box it won't
really start. The log files of both smd and nmbd complains about fcntl
locking on the .pid files failing. Can this has to do with the problem you
had spotted? How would I get past it you think?
Regards,
/Peter

suggestion for SWAT README and man page
Hello,
In 2.0.0, neither the SWAT README nor the man page mentions that nmbd
(or is it smbd) must be running on the server for SWAT to work.

fcntl lock failed at large offset: pretty urgent
Debian Woody with security updates
Linux kernel 2.2.25
Samba 3.0.0
libc6 2.2.5
The problem I have is with a windows application that uses samba. This
application is crucial for the organization, so if this is not fixed,
and soon, we will have to ditch Samba and move to a windows server.
I *really* don't want to do this, as Samba has been working so well for
years now and billg is rich enough

Samba servers disappeared?!
Hi all,
I've been running a Samba server here for over 6 months now will great success.
This past weekend I moved the Samba server to a new subnet, and now I can't
see any of the various aliases from Samba server.
I was previously able to see the aliases in NN across my 2 different subnets
by using the 'wins server = ' parameter. The wins server I was registering
with is on yet

I have a problem with the function read.xls from the gdata package, error message see below. Two examples:

Secondly, I tried the example code/data with the Iris data, which worked
Any idea?
Thanks,
Lars

Automounted home dirs not working
I'm testing Dovecot as a possible replacement for UW. In my environment
the home directories are automounted via NFS from a NetApp. In general
this works fine, but Dovecot isn't picking up the automounted
directories. Consider the case of Arthur Dent, test user:

solaris 7 and cvs samba 3.x build - No locking available. Running Samba would be unsafe solaris
Hello,
Getting during configure the infamous error: No locking available. Running

I went into tests folder and tried summary.c. It fails with the above error.
I tried to make the fcntl_lock manually like it tries and got the following:

More Info: Mac permission problems after Debian update
There seems to be a few people having this problem, but not much response.
I've dug into the logs, and while I don't know exactly what I am looking
at, I think I may have found something that may make sense to someone.
A short recap. Samba was working fine, until I did a Debian security
update, which upgraded my Samba to 2.2.8a. Now, I can create files on a
mounted Samba share in a

Same happens w/o --partial. I append 2 logs:
- a from localhost to remote server, exposing the missing "rename"

Samba 2.0.5a: couldnĀ“t set effective gid error
Hi together,
I?m heavy dealing with a strange behaviour of my samba server. When I
try to log on with smbclient -L <sambahost> -Usmbuser
I get an error message: ERRSRV - ERRbadpw (Bad password - name/password
pair in a Tree Connect or Session Setup are invalid.)
smbuser exists in both the passwd and the smbpasswd and is assigned to
not have a password.
In the log.smb (loglevel 3) I find

--partial does not "unhide" the files
I think --partial might be a red herring here. It only applies to what
happens when rsync is aborted in the middle of a file. What happens
without -P?
Also, it is worth trying with --inplace.

How to access an automounted home and read/write with AD user
hello,
I have samba 3.0.21c on an aix 5.2.0.7 server configured to use active
directory authentication. However, I need to do something a little
funky:
The server with samba I will call: sambaserver
A server with a user's home directory that is automounted on a few
other servers: homeserver
The user has on homeserver his files that he works on that he
conveniently has automounted on

Hello,
I want to know what do you think about my function. I know that it isn't

NFS re-export 64bit / 32bit locking issue?
Hi all,
I've got kind of strange setup, wherein all of my data is on a big NFS
server (RH linux 8.0 running the 2.4.18 kernel and nfs-utils 1.0.1-2.80)
and my Samba 3.0.0 PDC server (RH linux 7.3 w/ 2.4.18 kernel, nfs-utils
0.3.3-6.73) mounts the NFS export with the following options:
rw,vers=3,wsize=8192,rsize=8192,hard,intr
This mounted partition is then re-exported to the windows users

--partial does not "unhide" the files
Hi,
I used --partial to transfer files from my local computer (rsync 3.1.2,
Debian) to a remote computer (rsync 3.1.1 WD MyPassport Storage device)
The files get transferred, but after successful transfer, the files
are not renamed from .<tmpfile> to <file>.
Where to go next?
Here is the verbose output after transferring an empty file

to have two independent conditions in the same loop "for".
My secound question depend on program below. I'd like to write every
