smbmount and smb_dont_catch_keepalive
Hi! I am experiencing strange smbmount problems with my 3 computers. I have: janeway, an NT 4.0 SP5 box, torres, a Linux box running kernel 2.0.36 and samba 2.0.5a, q, a Linux box running kernel 2.0.36. Both Linux machines have smbfs compiled as a module and loaded. I can smbmount janeway shares on both torres and q, and I can see torres shares on janeway. Naturally, q can't be seen by

Samba server rejects (Win95) request
Hi, I am new to Linux, I am using RedHat version 6.0 and Samba 2.0.5a. I try to set up a Samba Server for a LAN. So far everything (i.e. installation) worked fine, I installed samba from .rpm and nmbd, smbd is started at boot successfully. I can see the Samba server in the Windows95 network environment, but when I doubleclick on it or when I try to smbmount a service from another Linux machine I

Linux system crash - odd samba kernel messages
My Linux box just bit the dust in a dramatic fashion (complete lockup, needed a cold reboot). Although I am not at all sure what the cause was, the last message in the system log mentioned samba, and there are some other funny looking samba-related messages in there. I'm not asking for a diagnostic, but if anyone has seen these before, maybe they can tell me what they mean: Last message

Errors in /var/log/messages and "dmesg"
A friend of mine is running Samba (samba-2.0.3-8) on a couple RedHat Linux 6.0 machines. He is sharing files bilaterally at work with a WinNT machine and at home with a Win9x machine. In both places, he is getting a large number of SMB error messages. I'm not sure whether these are from the smbfs (smbmount) or from the Windoze machines accessing the Linux drives, though I suspect the

Can't sometimes mount smbfs
Hi! I am using smbfs to mount a NT 4.0 SP3 disk to a Linux 2.0.33 box (SuSE 5.1). This works most of the time. Sometimes, I get a syslog entry |Jun 26 23:03:10 palandt kernel: smb_dont_catch_keepalive: server->data_ready == NULL on the smbmount command, which subsequently fails "illegal parameter". What am I doing wrong? I currently can't browse the digest archives because my

Samba error when getting file from NT Server to Linux client
Hi, I have a small problem with Samba in Debian 2.1 (Slink), kernel 2.0.36 and samba 2.0.5. I have a NT Server and a Linux client. I want to get some files from NT Server to the Linux client. They are in the same network and the IP's are: NT Server - 222.222.222.2 Linux Client - 222.222.222.40 Reading samba docs I discover two small utilities:

Win98 command line vs. long filenames
I just cranked up Samba 2.0.6 on NetBSD-sun3 1.4. The clients are Windows 98 (non-SE). I have had experience with earlier versions of Samba, so I was able to get 2.0.6 up and running without great difficulty. I exported a directory and was able to mount it on my Win98 machines fine. Using Explorer, everything looked like I expected it to: files were listed with their full names and I was able

smbmount/smbumount getting rid of dead connections
I've got a win98 laptop and a linux box. On my linux box, I smbmount a directory from the laptop. Alas, win98 boxes crash a lot, and I move the laptop a lot... to and from work. If the laptop crashes or if I move it with a shared directory mounted on my linux box, that mount gets "Stuck".... it's present in /etc/mtab but when I cd to it and do an ls it says: 243 emily ~>ls

smbmount syntax for 2.0.5a
I've got a SuSE 6.2 Linux server, which now comes with Samba 2.0.5a. I'm having problems with scripts that used to run under 2.0.2. I've tried digging around on newsgroups, the manpages, and the Samba web site and can't seem to find everything I need to do to mount a share (from an NT 4.0 server). When I issue the following: smbmount //server/share -I dest ip -U user%pswd -c

How to set up spooling for a HP JetDirect interface?
I've set up Samba and LPRng for HP printers with JetDirect cards. It works for one user at a time. But if the printer is off-line or busy, the samba client does not get an error message, but the job gets lost. :( I would like the print jobs to be spooled on Linux even when there is an active print job or when the printer is off-line. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with lpd. The

smbmount problem
Hello. I hope that this is the proper place to ask this. Here is my problem. I have several smbmounts under Red Hat Linux 5.1. They need to be accessed by my apache web server. One of the mounts keeps getting disconnected, but this is not noticed by Linux. So the Linux box thinks that the files under the smbmount are still accessable when they aren't actually mounted. What would be the best

SMBmount in daemon mode slow to write
Hi, We have a linux server which has the samba client running in daemon mode (smb shares auto-mounted via fstab). The source smb share is on a W2K box, and both machines are on the same 100MB ethernet LAN. Whenever we try to copy a file from the linux machine's local disk to the SMB share, we would get speed like 5,000-6,000 kbps, but yet if we try to ftp the same file from the linux box to
