Passwords fail from Win95 but not from DOS (Samba 1.9.16p11/NetBSD)
Hi,
I'm having some problems with Samba 1.9.16p11 on a Sun3/60 running
NetBSD 1.2. I have a Win95 client and a couple of DOS clients on a
single ethernet segment (it's at home :-).
I've set up a simple configuration, intention was just to serve files
from the Sun to the PC's. Everything works perfectly except
authentication from the Win95 client. I can connect to the Samba
shares

samba: DEC UNIX password problem
I've just installed a new DEC Unix 4.0d machine and downloaded the binary
version of samba 1.9.18p8 for DEC Unix. I am able to get it up and running,
but I am having problems with passwords. I am being prompted for a password
when I try to connect to a non-public share, and when I type in my password it
is being rejected. I did set security=share in my smb.conf file. I also tried

'Trying usename <machinename>'
Connecting from WinNT to Samba 1.9.18p10 I have another question:
When I have a drive map to my Unix homedir, which should be automatically
reconnected during login, I get an error that my password is not correct.
If I control the log file of Samba I see:

Samba can't resolv password
Hello,
I finally switched to the samba-1.9.18p4, and got all my files on
this server.
But now I have a big problem, all our NT machines can't access the
server.
They tell wrong user or password.
In the debugging mode I see, that the NT machines come to the server
and find the right user, then they tell me:
lp_file_list_changed()
file /usr/local/samba/lib/smb.conf ->

Cannot change password
Server: Slakware Linux 2.0.30, GNU C 2.7.2.1 Samba 18p7
Server is not using PAM and is a ypclient.
Client PC's are DOS 6.20 with MS Client 3.0 and Windows 95.
I am having trouble changing passwords using the "net password \\<server>"
command from either DOS or Win95 command prompt. Changing passwords worked fine
using Samba 17p3.

Password authentication across sub-nets.
It would appear that Samba <-> Samba across subnets works fine, but Samba
<-> NT is a problem.
Does anybody else concur with this statement?
Specifically, running Samba 1.9.18p10 (Solaris) and directing all password
authenication to an NT server
on a subnet causes the following output in the log file:

Password changing on SCO openserver
I have been trying to make password changing work with Samba from a Windows
95 clients.
All the workstations use nonencrypted passwords. The server is SCO Open
Server, Samba 1.9.18p10.
The relevant lines of smb.conf are
passwd chat = *Old*password* %o\n "1):" \n *New*password* %n\n
*Re-enter*password* %n \n
passwd chat debug = yes
passwd program = /bin/passwd
unix password sync = yes

smbpasswd and nmbd don't call my password program
I have samba-1.9.18p7-2
smb.conf says:
# Configure smbpasswd
passwd chat debug = yes
# Default
passwd chat = *old*password* %o\n *new*password* %n\n *new*password* %n\n
*changed*
passwd program = /usr/bin/yppasswd
Using smbpasswd, my encrypted password is changed, but yppasswd is not even
touched (as per ls -lu /usr/bin/yppasswd).
Furthermore, running smbd with -d 100 didn't seem to show

NT can't print while Win 95 can?
Hello all,
I have a printing problem with NT, Samba 1.9.18p8 and Debian Linux
1.3 (Kernel 2.0.32). I defined a printer share, which works fine
with Win95, but it does not print with NT 4.0 SP3 and NT 3.51. After
installing the "EnablePlainTextPassword" registry entry NT4.0 is
able to browse, connect and use a file system share on the
printserver, but it can not print to the same

Can survive both NT4 SP3 & SP1?
Hello,
I'm an Information System admin.
We have a bunch of PC with Windows NT 4.0-SP1(Service Pack 1).
Then I'm going to upgrade them to SP3 maybe soon. I set up
Samba server at SunOS 4.1.3 without password encryption. My
question is, can survive both SP1 and SP3 with pw encrypted
Samba server simultaneously? Or, how do I upgrade NT4-SP1
into SP3? I can't imagine upgrading

authentication NT4 SP3 - smbpasswd
I have set up everything so that NT4 SP3 users can use
my FreeBSD machine as a printer/file share fine.
But it seems to me that every user I want grant access to
my machine and is it even for browsing only needs to
have an account and must run smbpasswd once on my unix
machine.
How can I let arbitrary users/workgroups let browse my printers?

Samba and NT4 SP3: no write access
Hi everybody!
I'm an absolute Linux newbie and I've got some problems with my LAN.
I've got two machines at home. On the one machine is Win98/SuSE Linux 6.1
and on the other is Win NT4 SP3. My network from Win98 to Win NT is perfect.
Both machines have the function of a file server, that means that I can use
the Win NT harddisk from the Win98 machine and the other way round. No

Resolved: NT4 + SP3 reports can't NetServerEnum2 using Samba
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am writing to say that the problem reported on Wed 22 April 1998,
where NT 4.0 + Service Pack 3 servers repeatedly report they can't get
the server list from the Master Browser when using a Samba WINS has
been resolved.
We found that upgrading from 1.9.17p11 to 1.9.18p4 suppressed the
problem reports and also the problems the servers had in viewing the
network

autoconfigure new NT4 sp3 clients, samba 1.9.19 server
Hi,
I'm running the Alpha of 1.9.19 (we needed Samba as a domain controller)
and want to know the best way to set it up so that the first login for a
new user on an WNT workstation in that domain creates the profile we want
for the user, rather than the one NT seems to want.
1. The profile created is about .5 Mb in size. The parts that we want
in there are maybe 20% of that. How does

NT4 SP3 PDC with MS Exchange 5.5 to Samba 3.x ldapbacked PDC and MS Exchange 5.5 still
Looking to make some changes to an old but working LAN, that has about 10
samba servers serving printers and network shares and a NT 4 PDC server with
Exchange 5.5 on it. The samba servers are members of the nt4 domain, XP
systems are members of the nt 4 domain also. Samba servers are ldapbacked.
We use the ldap component directly to login to the Linux servers.
I'd like to be able to

Outlook/Exchange workflow app which locks them in until it can be replaced.
Similar situation - though we've been able to replicate it fairly easily in
google apps.

[Q] Copy-File-Problem (with Samba 1.9.18p7 & Win NT4)
Hello,
I got a question concerning SAMBA 1.9.18p7 and Microsoft Developper
Studio (respectively: Copy'ing files in the same directory
does not work)!
Samba is running on a Linux-PC, clients are some Windows
NT 4 SP3 PC's (already including the "EnablePlainTextPassword" -
Entry in the registry).
As some of our developpers are using Microsofts Developper Studio 97
they would

W2K Sp2 in NT4 domain and roaming profiles on samba 2.2.3a
Hello samba-insiders,
we have a WinNT 4.0 SP5 PDC and our samba 2.2.3a is member of the domain.
The roaming profiles of our clients stored on the samba 2.2.3a server.
All seams to be perfect but only clients with W2K SP2 cannot use there
roaming profiles.
---> "Access Denyed" is the W2K errro message.
But if the same user loggs on on a client machine with W2K SP1 all things
are ok.
