Static mappings with SAMBA WINS ?
Hi all, Here's my stupid question of the month: I recently replaced my NT WINS server with a SAMBA server - that went pretty smooth with one exception. I had put in a static mapping (on the NT WINS server) for a host that is on another network that we don't manage so our users could connect to it by just using the name (i.e. '\\foo') instead of the FQDN (i.e.

Problems with step function
Dear List Members, I have encountered two problems when using the step function to select models. To better illustrate the problems, an R image (step.add1.test.RData) which includes the objects needed to run the code (step.add1.test.R) can be found at www.biostat.wisc.edu/~pwang/r-help/<http://www.biostat.wisc.edu/%7Epwang/r-help/> lm.data.frame have factor variables with 3 levels. levelplot colorkey
Dear R'ers, I've scanned available documentation and the web, but I can't seem to figure out where I've gone wrong in adding numbers to scale the colorkey in levelplot (Lattice package). For example, levelplot(z, contour=T, labels=T, cuts=10, region=T,... colorkey=list(T, space="bottom", at=seq(0,2000,length=20),

levelplot add line
R folks, I can't seem to find the instructions in the help files for the lattice package that explain how to add lines, such as with lines() or ?, to a levelplot. I'd be grateful if someone could point me in the proper direction. Cheers, Jeff ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jeff Jorgensen Center for Limnology jcjorgensen at wisc.edu

2.0.5a: smbmount 2.0 missing switch -c
Hi, In 2.0.5(a) is a new version of smbmount, version 2.0, latest before was 1.9 in samba 2.0.4b. The new syntax is smbmount //server/share /mountpoint [smbmount options] instead of the former smbmount //server/share [smbmount options] \ -c 'mount mountpoint [mount options]' Indeed the new version works, but to mount shares from my OS/2 server I need the mount option '-f

Samba 2.0.6 with automount on Solaris
Hi, all Until recently, we were running Samba 1.9.18p7 in a Solaris 2.6 environment. We configured our environment with configure --with-nisplus --with-automount. With that configuration, we were able to allow multiple machines within our workgroup to act as windows 95 logon servers. Because everthing was automounted. No matter which machine a person gained access to, it provided them with the

Moving to a Mac environment - quick question
Hi all, I'm moving to a Mac platform and have installed R and all seems fine. My question concerns moving my R objects over. On my pc, which file contains my R objects and once I copy that, where do I copy it within the Mac? I hope that was clear. Thanks in advance, David -- =============================================================== David Kaplan, Ph.D. Professor

nmbd forkbombed my machine :-\
Hello everyone, Assuming this is the right place to post potential bug reports, try this : (Apologies if it's been posted/covered somewhere else, but your lists don't seem to have a search facility...) nmbd had a good go at fork bombing my "server" just now, with a setup as follows : Samba 2.2.0a on Slackware Linux v8.0, linux kernel 2.4.16. i586 with 500ish mb of ram.

Error message "got a real'
Hi all, I'm running the program sem on a Mac, but I'm getting a message that I think is quite general. The error reads Error in scan(file, what, nmax, sep, dec, quote, skip, nlines, na.strings, : scan() expected 'a real', got '10652)' The 10652 is the sample size coming from a .csv file where I have header = TRUE. Any thoughts would be

Re: make.search.html() without write permission in R.hom e( ) (PR#6664)
So this is on Windows, then? This is documented somewhere (don't remember): If the package is not located under $R_HOME/library, then the html help will not be able to find it. Don't think there's a known work-around. Cheers, Andy > From: byandell@wisc.edu > > I did that. In fact the default uses .libPaths()[1], which I > have set to >

R 1.7.0 startup error: .addMethodFrom...
Does anyone know what could be causing the following error message on startup of R: Error in .addMethodFrom(def,argName[1],class[1],fromClass) : object "*tmp*" not found. I'm using R 1.7.0 and Windows 2000. This happened shortly after I installed 1.7.0. Once it occurs, R freezes. >From then on R will always freeze with this error message. Re: make.search.html() without write permission in R.home() (PR#6664)
I did that. In fact the default uses .libPaths()[1], which I have set to "P:/stat/yandell/public/statgen/R" The package installs fine. However, the HTML search is not done properly. Again, the break occurred after installation of the package, when make.search.html() was invoked. Brian On Thu, 11 Mar 2004, Douglas Bates wrote: > Brian Yandell <byandell@wisc.edu> writes: >
