Win2k Roaming Profiles problems under NTFS
Hi there! I have a Samba 2.2.2 PDC on linux 2.4.13 with ACL (acl.bestbits.at) support installed. There seems to be a problem with Roaming Profiles. Win2k with local NTFS filesystem will never delete roaming profiles (yes, I have regedited the DeleteRoamingCache to 1). In fact, any time TheUser logs back in, a new folder named TheUser.OURDOMAIN.??? (where ? is an integer) will be created,

how to stop WfWG local browse master announcements?
this isn't strictly a samba question, but it is related in that i'm trying to a samba server as my domain master browser and multiple samba servers as local master browsers for a workgroup across multiple subnets. everything seems to be working wonderfully except for one WfWG host which does not show up in the browse list as expected. i notice that this host is announcing itself as a

smbpasswd does not work for normal users in 1.9.18p4
Hi everyone, It seems to me that smbpasswd does not work for normal users in Samba version 1.9.18p4. If I invoke it as root, then there is no problem with it, but if I invoke it as a normal user, then I get the following: $ smbpasswd -D 99 Old SMB password: New SMB password: Retype new SMB password: Connecting to 127.0.0.1 at port 139 write_socket(3,76) write_socket(3,76) wrote 76 Sent session

Where are the older versions?
Hi, Anyone know where I can get a .tar.gz of 2.0.2? I'd like this version, since the PDC code is reportedly more stable than 2.0.3. Or has this been fixed in 2.0.3? Strange MS Excel permission problem
I am currently using Samba 2.0.6 on a Sun box running Solaris 2.5.1. If I create a file on my Unix filesystem like name : data.txt permissions: rw-rw-r-- owner : John group : developers Assume my name is Brett and I'm in the developers group, if I go to my NT 4.0 system and modify this file via the NOTEPAD application, everything works fine, But, if I use MS Excel and

cmdat utility...
On 13 Mar 99, Luke Kenneth Casson Leighton had this to say about about cmdat utility...: > this small utility can be used to run an arbitrary program by clicking > right-mouse-button on a directory. the default action is to run "ssh.exe" > on a Samba server and a command prompt "cmd.exe" on an NT server. Excuse me for being ignorant, but what is ssh.exe? A win32

domain master browser registration
if i have a host with a particular ip address running as a domain master browser and registered as such with my wins server, and then i change the ip address of this host, does the old registration with the wins server eventually go away so that the new ip address can be registered? if so, how long should this take? how would one force the old ip address to be forgotten? -- Todd Pfaff

Multiple servers from single /usr/local
Dear Samba Users, In the past, with Samba 1.9.18p10, I have handled running several Sun SPARC/Solaris server boxes that share the same /usr/local/samba filesystem. I did this by putting different configuration files in /usr/local/samba/lib. For example: smb.conf.host1, smb.conf.host2, etc. But, now with Samba-2.0.0, it didn't seem to work. My initial questions are: 1) There are now files

Netscape profile scripts?
A while back there was a thread in which many people were discussing how to make Netscape work with roaming profiles. There was some talk about how this would require a script to modify the registry, etc. I just talked to one of the NS programmers who said that the problem would be fixed and even enhanced in a version 4.5. He didn't say whether the 4.5 code was going to be an internal or

Preexec and smb.conf
Hi Steve, And thanks for your answer. Unfortunately it does not solve my problem. What I?m trying to do is to create two dirs using preexec in the same service. It works well as long as I?m only creating one directory, what I can?t figure out is how to create the second directory withing the same service. Eg. How would I continue after the last "fi" in the script to check for the second

semaphores and Solaris 7 8/99
I just installed the 8/99 release of Solaris 7 on three Sun Ultra 10's and it seems to have broken Samba. I am running Samba 2.0.5a and it works fine on an Ultra 10 running the 5/99 release of Solaris 7. All of the Ultra 10's are using the 64 bit kernel. This is the errors that I am getting. Upgrading to Samba 2.2.7
I'm running Red Hat version 7.2 as server. It has been fully upgraded from Red Hat UP2DATE. Samba 2.2.3a is currently running on the server with a working smb.conf file. I've noted a lot of comments/suggestions to upgrade to Samba 2.2.7. I find 2 files on the samba.org site for Red Hat 7.x: samba2.2.7-1.i386.rpm and samba2.2.7.src.rpm When trying to install with the Package Manager I

Synchonisation between NIS and encrypted SMBPASSWD
Hello, does somebody have a tool to convert a /etc/passwd to a smbpasswd with getting a valid Lan Manager and NT hash. or does anybody have a trick, how I can synchronise the /etc/passwd with the smbpasswd without changing a unix passwd twice (passwd, smbpasswd). Synchronize Unix/SMB passwords with 'synchpasswd'
Hi, It's been a while since I created my smbpasswd file, and therefore it is no longer in synch with my Unix file. I've added and removed users over time, and now I need a way to update the 'smbpasswd' file without losing the encrypted passwords that are already in place (ie. I don't want to just run 'makesmbpasswd.sh' again). So, I've written the

NT Domain and Samba as a PDC
Hi all, I'm currently battling with my Corp. IS group over NT domain administration. I admin a mostly Unix environment with a lot of WinXX clients. The authentication server is owned by "Corporate" (you know, that nameless, faceless entity that always makes do stupid things because "That's the policy" :) and I have no control over it. What I'd like to do is
