Cross Router Browsing
Hi, I'm running 2.04b on two RH 5.2 boxes (A + B). The boxes are control
separate domains and have a router in between them. I would like for the
domain controlled by A to show up in browse list on B.
I've tried using remote announce on A to broadcast on the other side of the
router, but domain A does not show up.... It seems to me that WINS (nmbd)
should be able to hold

Unix Password Sync
Does unix password sync still work in Samba 4.1.6?
I'm trying to debug setting passwords on a system... I have this in smb.conf
passdb backend = samba_dsdb
passwd program = /usr/local/sbin/passtest.sh %u
passwd chat = *password* %n\n
passwd chat debug = Yes
unix password sync = Yes
My passtest.sh script is very simple...
#!/bin/bash
set -e

samba4 adding an index to sam.ldb
I have a large installation >20k users. We're using samba4 for AD Authentication, and also email address validation. I'm trying to edit the @INDEXLIST in sam.ldb to add an index on otherMailbox to speed up searches (0.05 sec for indexed, vs 2.5 sec for non-indexed searches) I'm finding that when I use ldbedit to do this, it appears to add the additional @IDXATTR. However, when I

Patch to ignore exluded files.
I came up with a patch to fix the problem of IO Errors caused by
excluded files as did Eugene V. Chupriyanov below.
Is there a chance that this change will show up in a future version of
rsync?
Is there a reason that we should not ignore IO errors when copy_links is
off? Just want to make sure that I'm not missing something here that
may corrupt my syncs....
Here's the version that

Solution for: "Samba server does not show up in Windows Network Places"
I may have a solution to this problem but would like any advice on the downside of doing this. Essentially, I remove role check in nmbd.c as follows:

how do I rsync files which have a colon in the name?
I can't figure out how to quote a colon in a filename that I'm trying to push so
that it doesn't think everything in front of the colon is a hostname.

Need an smb server that supports both ldap and win2000
I followed the directions for getting ldap support in samba that I'd found at
http://www.unav.es/cti/ldap-smb/ldap-smb-HEAD-howto.html
and was perfectly happy with that until I discovered that win2000 wouldn't
work with that code....
...so, is there a version of samba that supports both ldap and win2K?

It seems that nothing else has everything that I need working, so I'm diving in to

Best Ferrups (bestfcom patch)
Hello,
I have a Best Ferrups 3.1KVA and I noticed that the percent battery voltage reported from upsc never gets above 69.9%. I believe there is a mistake in the driver. The battery percentage is calculated based on the High Battery Alarm Setpoint (59.6V) instead of the Ideal Voltage which is about 54V (4 batteries x 13.6V). I examined the source code and found that the variable fc.fullvolts is

Samba4, browselist, nbt and wins
Hi folks,
i'am still confused when searching around for samba4 adc, wins and
browselist.
In my DCs smb.conf I have activated the server service nbt, defined wins
support = yes and could not see my domain controller in browselist.
Before provision from samba3 with ldap, I renamed the pdc, because the
old one had the same name like the domain (was working well over years).

Multiple domain browselist over a wanlink
Hi,
I'm trying to generate a multiple domain browselist but I don't get it to
work.
I've tried everyting by the book but the result is always the same:
I can see the other workgroup(s) but they are empty. Currently I've added
the following rules to the smb.conf
remote browse sync = 192.168.2.2 192.168.2.4
remote announce = 192.168.2.2 192.168.2.4

browselist showing up late
Hello all,
I'm having the following problem. I have a Win95 PC in a WAN, and a Linux
WINS. For the local subnets there's no problem, but the WINS seems to react
very slowly for the WAN pc.
- both WINS and win95 have the same workgroup; the workgroup is not in any
computer name (as far as I know and can see)
- ICMP echo about a 35 msec reply
tcpdump shows a couple of 137 < - > 137
