Win98/HP Printer problem. Partially Solved.
I set up a print/fax server here using RH Linux 6.0, and Samba 2.0.3. The printer is an old (but still very reliable) HP Laserjet 4. Printing from the Linux box using lpr works fine. However, whenever someone tries to print from a Windows98 box through SAMBA, there is an extra page printed on the end. This gets really annoying to the users, more so because the extra pages cannot be put back into

hosts allow/deny not working correctly
When the world was young, "M. Tyson Bigler" <bigler@shellus.com> carved some runes like this: > I am having difficult getting the hosts allow/deny to work with IP ranges > or netmasks. Ideally I would prefer to use the IP/Netmask method, e.g. > 111.22.33.0/255.255.255.0, because we have a flat ATM network with > multiple class C's (netmask is really

CUPS Printing to PostScript Printer
I'm having trouble printing to a HP LaserJet 6MP Postscript printer. I'm using CUPS and normal UNIX printing works fine. I've tried to configure SAMBA for point and click printing. That all seemed to go okay except that what is printed is: ===================================================== -12345X@PJL JOB @PJL SET RESOLUTION = 600 @PJL SET ECONOMODE = OFF @PJL ENTER LANGUAGE =

HP Deskjet 1000c
Howdy all - I have Samba 2.0.3 running like a champ on a dual PPro 200, 128 MB RAM, running Slackware 3.6, kernel 2.2.5. Running like a champ as far as file sharing is concerned, that is. I have an HP Deskjet 1000c hanging off the parallel port. I set up a raw printer in /etc/printcap, the line looks like this: dj1000|DeskJet 1000c:sh:lp=/dev/lp0:sd=/var/spool/lpd/dj1000 the printing section

What am I missing here?!
OK, I've tried changing my printcap name from printcap to cups. Printing works fine locally using CUPS on the Samba box. What am I missing here? Why can't I print to the Samba box via the Windows and linux clients? Shared directories work fine. I am really frustrated here and have exhausted Google and all other resources I have. Here's my smb.conf for what it's worth.

DNS server and printing.
Good afternoon, This is my first post, so please be gentle ;) Anyway, here's my question....I've recently put together a Linux Server for our company, replacing an old Novel server. I have the box set up with Samba, as a PDC on our network. So far, just about everything is working correctly. One issue I'm coming up against, though, is printing from DOS. I have Samba

Manual Printer Driver Installations
Hey, I posted a few days ago about how the printer paper sizes are differ from the admin account when they are installed. People at my work are getting pissed at the moment and all they want to do is to be able to change the paper sizes themselves and not have it done at the server Is there a way to do it? I fluked it at one stage and had it working like that, I think I deleted the driver

cups, firefox + acrobat (Getting PJL output)
Hello, I am having a problem when printing pdf files as viewed from firefox/acroread to a samba print share. When I print from firefox, I get PJL output. If I print the very same file directly from Acrobat, the file prints properly. Standard web pages print from firfox just fine. #Sample output -12345X@PJL COMMENT MS PCLXL NT DRIVER @PJl JOB NAME ... I can print from firefox/acroread

hosts allow/deny not working correctly in 2.0.3 or 2.0.4b
I am having difficult getting the hosts allow/deny to work with IP ranges or netmasks. Ideally I would prefer to use the IP/Netmask method, e.g. 111.22.33.0/255.255.255.0, because we have a flat ATM network with multiple class C's (netmask is really 255.255.252.0). This, however, doesn't work!! I can't do 111.22.33. either... I can't even do specific IP's, e.g. 111.22.33.44

Interface binding ignores my settings in 2.0.6
I have a multi-homed server with interfaces into two VLANs (one Unix and one NT). I need for all Samba traffic to go through the NT VLAN interface (which is not the primary, of course). Under 2.0.5a I was able to do this with the "Interfaces" option by specifying the NT interace first (I did not do the "Bind Interface Only"). However, 2.0.6 seems to ignore this setting which

printing via samba w/ cups server
Hi, I have a bizarre printing problem, and i think i've narrowed it down to either samba, or the way windows packages the file to be printed. I've recently implemented a new server. Users print through the linux server from their windows desktop machines. OLD server: -samba 2.0.7, which uses lpd NEW server: -samba 2.2.3, which uses cups The old server can print to the printer (Savin

printer driver access denied
Hi, I have print$ setup and points to /var/lib/samba/printers. I have printer_admin and write_list access. /var/lib/samba/printers is setup with 755 for root:root. When I tried to add/upload new drivers to print$ in W2K I get access denied. Would someone please give me a few pointers please? Regards, Norman

Samba messing with PJL to printer
We have a Kyocera FS-3750 printer here that works fine from Windoze (NT 4.0 and 98) clients if connected "directly" via the Windows "LPR" interface but which spews out pages of garbage if spooled through Samba 2.0.7 on a Solaris box. What happens is the printer for some reason thinks it is being sent text but the first few lines are really PJL commands : %-12345X@PJL JOB @PJL

Doubts about sharing a winprinter
Hi there, I own a domestic lan with two computers, mine and my mother's one. Mine is called GREENDEMON and the other one is called BLUEDEMON and they both are configured to run on the REDLOCAL workgroup. I've Debian Woody running on GREENDEMON and Windows 98 running on BLUDEMON, with an attached Nec Silentwriter Superscript 610 printer. This printer is only compatible with Windows 9x

Page_log with number of pages prtinted wrong
The Adobe drivers (on request of the printer PPD associated with them) often put a PJL header in front of the main PostScript part of the print file. Thus, the printfile starts with <1B >%-12345X or <escape>%-12345X instead of %!PS). This leads to the CUPS daemon auto-typing the incoming file as a print-ready file, not initiating a pass through the pstops filter (to speak more

SSL and certificate authorities.
Hi all. Usually for in-house use and SSL I would just generate a self-signed certificate because most clients either ignore it or only ask the first time the account is configured. In terms of offering the service to our customers is there any value of getting someone like thawte or instantssl to sign a certificate for imaps/pop3s/smtp? Also, is there a configuration directive for dovecot

Rsync from Windows to Linux
I have installed rsync on my Windows and Linux PCs. I would like to use it to copy a folder from Windows to Linux on a regular basis as part of my backup regime. It works but always prompts me for a password. Is there any way to make Windows pass authentication automatically so that I can batch this process?
