2.0.4b: logrotate problems with rh60
The 2.04b rpm for rh60 ships with and installs a config file for logrotate

Samba 2.0.6pre1 released
I've just released a snapshot of 2.0.6 in the alpha directory on
samba.org. This is intended for testing to make sure some of the
recent changes work well on a wider range of sites. I have also built
a RedHat Linux 6.X RPM and put it in the same dircetory.
If you are not running a mission critical site then we would
appreciate feedback on this snapshot.

SWAT issue
I have had a RH5.2 server running Samba up for a long time. I upgraded to
Mandrake 6.0. It broke Samba, so I reinstalled using the RPM on the CD.
Samba works just fine, but SWAT will not! If I try to start it manually
(/usr/sbin/swat) it just hangs.
In /etc/services I have a line like this:
swat 901/tcp
In /etc/inetd.conf I have:
swat stream tcp nowait.400 root

Samba - Unix password sync
Hi,
in the last weeks I've unsuccessfully tried to get Samba (2.0.5a) -
Unix (Suse 6.2) password sync working. Maybe somebody can give me a
hint, what's wrong. Enclosed you'll find additional information.
Thank you for helping,
Johannes

2.0.5: problem with HUP reopening logs
rh60/caldera1.3
2.0.x (before 2.0.5) PROBLEM: samba didn't reopen then logs after HUP.
I posted about this to samba-bugs; AT corrected the problem in 2.0.5-preXX,
but not completely it seems.
2.0.5 PROBLEM: samba reopens the logs after a HUP but logs only the first
connection to the new log, then it keeps logging to the old one.
Here is what I see:
# pwd
/var/log/samba
# smbclient|grep

No automatic refresh?
Hi!
I've been struggling with this install of Samba 2.0.4b on Linux/x86 2.0.36.
All of the client machines run Windows NT 4, SP 3.
I'm exporting /tmp as pub, and if I right click in the folder and create
a new folder, it doesn't show up until I go to 'view' and 'refresh'.
If I delete something, it doesn't go away until I refresh.
Why?

problems running samba on Caldera 2.3?
I have the default installation of samba (2.0.5) that came with Caldera OL
2.3, but it doesn't seem to be starting up properly, nor is SWAT working.
When I run the script 'samba start', I get the message "Starting samba:
smbd nmbd", but when I check the running processes, only nmbd shows up.
Running smbstatus gives me the message "Couldn't open status file

Purely numeric service name
Hi
I have a problem accessing NT boxes which have a service (host) name
which is purely numeric, smbclient insists on treating it as an ip number.
For example:-
/opt/samba/bin/smbclient \\\\06842\\BACKUP xxxxx -U xxxxx
returns :-
Connecting to 0.0.14.34 at port 139
Connection to 06842 failed
I am using HPUX 10.2 and samba version 2.0.4b.
Surely it should be possible to connect to NT

Try adding the following patch to 2.0.4b. This should
fix the problem and will be in the next release.

problems with Auth and Alpha 1a
Hi all
I'm not quite sure how to explain this problem, so I'll just go from the top ;-).
System is setup on a FreeBSD with IMAP and POP3, both can use PAM and SQL (MySQL) as login methods, though only POP3 is accessible from "the world" - IMAP is restricted via firewall to only localhost. Simple eh?
The problem is that dovecot apparently drops the SQL part from time to time.

Through win9x I save a file, whose filename contains characters as: ? ? ? ? ?,

I can see those filenames (on a samba share) ok through win9x explorer.
I can see those filenames ok through ls on linux.
If I open one of those file, and then look at locked files with smbstatus,
they are showed with a LF in place of the localized

Bugs:
Relays ignore the hidden flag
HUPing icecast puts icecast in a strange state where it doesn't
actually take account of the conf changes, and also won't terminate on a
TERM and needs a KILL - but it does still "work" otherwise.

2.0.6: HUP/charset/profiles/smbmount/logging
This is the list of problems I had with samba-2.0.6 so far. Can anyone
tell me if he can reproduce them and if he considers them as problems?
2.0.6 on linux 2.2.13 or 2.0.33
1)
sighup/log reopening doesn't always work: connections that are already
active keep logging to the old logs; logrotate rotates/zip the logs and
samba stops logging completely till restart.
2)

REPEAT: hasn't anyone used smbclient linux->linux?
I cannot get smbclient or smbmount to work from linux -> linux. I'm running
2.05a on Red Hat 6.x servers. I can use NT shares from linux. I can use
samba shares from NT & 95. Is there some trick to getting this to work
between linux machines?

nbtstat doesn't show MAC address for samba servers
On Win9x I issue the command:
nbtstat -a <netbios name>
If <netbios name> is a Win9x machine I got the MAC address of that
machine on the last line of the command output. If it's a samba server
the MAC address is not returned:
MAC Address = 00-00-00-00-00-00
Is there anyone who gest the MAC address back from a samba server?

oplock_break: MS kb articles
I found these articles that talk about the oplock_break problem (specifically
they are related to problems with word97):
http://support.microsoft.com/support/ntserver/serviceware/nts40/e9msge2bc.asp
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q163/5/25.asp
Basically they say:
either apply sp3 on the winnt client or disable oplock on nt server
But they don't say anything about win9x,
