Automatic printer download
Hallo!
I am running samba-3.0.10-1.4E.11 on centOS. I want to enable the
automatic printer download feature, but are running into problems.
I have tried to work it out from samba by example, but since the automatic
driver download is bundeled togehter with ldap (which I am not using),
this does not get me anywhere.
Can anyone direct me to a good howto on this - one that will make things
work! I

"Windows couldn't connect to the printer" 0x00000709 when using server short name
Hi all,
Samba 4.3.11 is serving printers in my office from a server called
"printserver".
If a Windows 7 client tries to reach it using a short name \\prinserver ,
it can see the list of printers, but can't connect to any of them: "Windows
couldn't connect to the printer" pop-up appears immediately. Weirdly, it
doesn't happen all the times, sometimes it can

Win9x printer automatic installation
Hi everyone,
I've had automatic printer driver installation running fairly nicely
for a while now, but getting the drivers for your newest printer to
automatically install completely is a pain in the neck.
Basically, everything works except for adding a new section to
win.ini, and a registry entry for the printer. All the driver
files get copied over, and the printer appears as one would

SMBMount v2.05a
Hi
I have two different distributions running, RedHat 6.0 and Slackware 7.0.
Both machines are running Samba 2.05a.
When I try the smbmount command on the RedHat machine, it has no problem
mounting the smb service.
RedHat 6.0:
works: smbmount //win95machine/c /mnt/c
failed: smbmount "\\win95\c" -c `mount /mnt/c -u 123 -g 456`
Slacware 7.0:

access denied on printer driver upload
Hi,
I'm trying to upload printer drivers to my jessie samba 4.1.17 print
server, but I'm getting: "Failed to add driver. Access denied", and I
don't understand why.
The domain join is OK (verified with net ads testjoin) and on the DC I
have given the SePrintOperatorPrivilege to the Domain Admins group, of
which I am a member:

rpcclient setprinter failes
Hi List.
We have an Redhat 8.0 machine who acts as an printserver.
I'm sharing printers via Samba and using CUPS.
Samba is 2.2.7a and CUPS 1.1.8.
The Microsoft clients (Win9x, Win NT, Win 2k) is downloading the
driver from the server.
I had no problem to install and upload up to 55 printers but now I am
not able to set the driver.
I can install more printers, but when cupsaddsmb is running

Delay with printer properties
Greetings Samba Fans!
I'm experiencing a strange problem which started after installation of
Service Pack 2 for Windows XP:
When a user tries to print there is a long delay (sometimes around 2
minutes) before the printer properties page is opened. This only affects
Windows XP with Service Pack 2 installed.
I did a 'tcpdump' on the printserver and observed something quite strange:

NT and Linux printer sharing
Hi,
This is my first shot at getting Samba to work for us.
I have successfully setup SMB (Samba) on my Linux (RedHat6.0) in a network.
I can see the linux machine from the NT4 workstation's Network
Neighbourhood, and provided I give a correct password I can browse the linux
/ (root) tree, as I have configured it in /etc/smb.conf and all is well. But
I have also setup a SMB printer on the

Samba printer queues
Hello!
Is it possible to make printer queues accessable from Windows clients? That
is, I've got a printer that is printed on via a Linux server running Samba,
but print jobs never show up on the client-side (as far as Windows is
concerned, the queue is empty). It would be nice, albeight not vital, if
this worked...
Thanks!

GDI Printer problem
Hi,
we have a new printer here (OKI C5650). It's a GDI printer
attached to our cups server. I installed the windows driver
as root on the print share without any problems.
However it's not working. When a user maps the printer
only a message appears "printing not possible".
So I looked at the printserver and compared everything with
a local printer on my XP notebook and found

printer admin deprecated: please explain
I am Running a printserver using SLES9 SP3 with Samba 3.0.20b and
cups 1.1.20
Since the update to Samba 3.0.20 every start of a client program tells me
WARNING: The "printer admin" option is deprecated
Ok, I understood I should use
net rpc rights grant "<User or Group>" SePrintOperatorPrivilege -U ..
But I haven't any adminuser to grant this rights.

Samba 3.2.7 server loses printer - driver assignment
Hi,
Our Samba/CUPS based printserver loses the info of which driver belongs to a
certain printer. The server is running Samba 3.2.7 on Solaris 9.
Out of the blue, users complain they cannot print. Looking at 'printers and
faxes' from a Windows machine shows no info in the 'Model' field. In normal
situations this field lists the driver/model name.
Weird thing is: nobody is

nbtstat doesn't show MAC address for samba servers
On Win9x I issue the command:
nbtstat -a <netbios name>
If <netbios name> is a Win9x machine I got the MAC address of that
machine on the last line of the command output. If it's a samba server
the MAC address is not returned:
MAC Address = 00-00-00-00-00-00
Is there anyone who gest the MAC address back from a samba server?

[smbfs] Timing problems with kernel 2.2.x?
[Note: This has been posted to linux-kernel and was ignored. Since
smbfs is maintained by the samba team, I am retrying here]
Hi!
To maintain and install packages from CD-ROM to my Debian/GNU Linux
system, I use Debian's apt package. Since my Linux box is stowed away
in a closet, I use an smbfs mount to mount the CD-ROM drive from my
Windows desktop machine to the Linux box.

time to say good-bye to win 7 / printer is the last blocker
I have picked up the HP LaserJet 1022n on eBay. It is black and white only, but works well with Linux and all versions of Windows I have available. They are generally inexpensive on eBay and the tone is cheap. I can get 4 toner cartridges for around $25 on eBay. It is small, dependable, and makes a good second printer. Most printing is usually black and white. I actually have 3 of them

2nd try: sync of passwd and smbpasswd
Hello,
I'm using samba2.02 and shadowed passwords.
I' m on the way to migrate from plaintext to encrypted passwords.
Therefore I've set the parameter update encrypted to "Yes".
After everyone has logged in I will set this parameter to "No" again and
set encrypted passwd = Yes.
So far, so good. But three questions are remaining for me:
a) what to do with those who

Problems adding a printer share
I have added an HP Deskjet 600 to my debian etch system, using CUPS. It is
working fine.
I would like to set it up so that I can occassionally print to it from a
Windows 9x machine. This is where I seem to be having trouble.
I consulted the HOW-TO docs on the samba site, but they are quite detailed
and confusing (for me).
I don't want to do anything that will cause the printer to work

printer admin problems with 2.2.4
We upgraded from 2.2.3a to 2.2.4 on a SuSE 7.2 server. We compiled Samba just
default. The new version seems to work ok with the exception of printer administration.
Printer admins are not able to see the properties of the printers (right click on printer
gives on error). Our workstations are W2k SP2. But users that are not printer admin
are able to see the properties of a printer, but they
