No automatic refresh?
Hi!
I've been struggling with this install of Samba 2.0.4b on Linux/x86 2.0.36.
All of the client machines run Windows NT 4, SP 3.
I'm exporting /tmp as pub, and if I right click in the folder and create
a new folder, it doesn't show up until I go to 'view' and 'refresh'.
If I delete something, it doesn't go away until I refresh.
Why?

Print Jobs in /tmp
I have a quick printing question:
When users print through Samba, a copy of the print job is ALWAYS left in /tmp
and not erased. When I print through lpr, this is not the case. I am using
LPRng 3.5.3, Samba 2.0.3, Kernel 2.2.4, and RHL 5.2 with all the update RPMs.
Here are the relevant sections of my smb.conf file:

Canon multifunction printers / samba 3.0.2a / AIX 5.2ML2
Hello,
I have problems setting up a canon multifunction ir7200. When I print the
windows test page, I have something like "smiley" "arrow" "arow" "smiley"
"arrow" name_of_the_samba_spool "smileys" driver.dll etc,etc,etc, on a
single line.
Did somebody used such a multifunction with Samba ? Below is a (long)
description of what I did.

Timestamp problem
Hello,
Please forgive this message if it has already been discussed, but I could
not find the answer to my question in the archives or any documentation, so
I joined this list.
I'm running Samba 2.0.3 on Red Hat Linux 5.2 with all update RPMS installed
and Kernel 2.2.2. I have compiled Samba and the Kernel from their respective
source tarballs. I used the --with-smbmount switch with

new feature in 2.2.6 ?
Hi Jerry et al,
will the 2.2.6 release show the printers in the 'add-new-printer-wizzard'
on the client like the WINDOWS server do ?
I'm not sure if you know what I mean, so here is a little illustration:

samba, win98, and browse list problem.
Hello,
Here's a repost on my message of a few days ago, for reasons that I'm
not sure if it went through. If it did, my apologies, all suggestions
welcome.
I'm having an identical problem on slackware linux 7.0 and freebsd
3.4-release and windows 98-2, with sp1, and samba 2.05 and 2.06,
depending on which system I've got up. Whenever I restart samba for
whatever reason, making a

WINS-Server != PDC ?
Hello,
I have tried to find that info, but couldn't yet find it in TOSHARG or
"Samba-3 By Example" :
A client has one NT-PDC running without WINS-service and a
Samba-Domain-Member-Server that is currently the WINS-Server.
I have

SQL and system
Hi All,
I’m using system commands in R to send requests to my database.
CMD=paste(“isql.tcl \’ select xxxx from yyyyy where zzzzz = 501 \’”)
Data=system(CMD,intern=T)
This works perfectly fine, but if I want to be able to add dates
constraints:
In command line it would be
isql.tcl “ select xxxx from yyyyy where zzzzz = 501 and date>’20021020’
”
Does somebody has an idea how to

tail -f doesn't work on a smbfs mount
I mount a WinNT share using a samba client version 2.2.5:

Then I want to watch a log generated by Internet Information

I can see the last lines in file zzz.txt the first time, but I
don't get the new lines that are appended in such file. From any

Unable to join samba server to a NT4 style domain
Hello,
I have installed Samba version 3.0.13 on a Solaris 9 machine and am trying to add it to an existing NT domain as a member server. I have followed the instructions in Chapter 2 of the Samba HOW-TO collection for adding a samba server as a Domain member. The problem is that when i use the net rpc join command to join the domain, I get the following error:

silently testing for data from another package for .Rd examples
In an .Rd example for a package, I want to use data from another
package, but avoid loading the entire
package and avoid errors/warnings if that other package is not available.
If I don't care about loading the other package, I can just do:
if (require("ElemStatLearn", quietly=TRUE)) {
data(prostate)
# rest of example
}
I'd rather just be able to do something like:

Diagnosis Tests - Failed #5
I'm working on the first of a few Samba machines for our network.
It's running RedHat 6.2 and Samba 2.0.7.
On the NT 4.0 side of things I can see the machine (with the correct name)
if I do NET VIEW or look in the Network Neighborhood. However, when I do
"NET VIEW \\SambaServer" I get an Error 5 Access Denied. (Test 8)
So I started on the diagnosis and got to Item 5.

Bug in smbmount?
Local software is:
samba-client-2.0.7-4
samba-common-2.0.7-4
samba-2.0.7-4
on RH 6.2 plus fixes, kernel is 2.2.16-3
NT server is 4.0 SP4
As root I can mount an NT share onto the Linux system:
/usr/bin/smbmount '//ntserver/myshare' /mnt/test -o
username=mylinuxuser,password=something,uid=myntuser,workgroup=CMP
But the mount point gets forced to mode 555 instead of 755. It's not an

rsync windows -> unix still hanging :(
I spent about 12 hours today writing a nice backup system based on
Mike Rubel's snapshot system; but much to my dismay, when I took it
for a test drive, I found that rsync hung on the first large directory
I tried to back up. Aiee!
A few web searches later, I realized that a lot of folks have seen this
problem. I saw one proposed fix...

a very simple problem, but unknown solution
In our environemt, we use PCs (NT) running a JVM that produces unique file
names, and data content about 100K or less. We only write to these file. The
JVM (the application) does spawn many threads so the net effect can be many
simultaneous file creation requests from one PC.
All the files are written to a samba mounted directory, and the directory
*file* itself does get somewhat large. The
