Digital UNIX - root authentication for SWAT
We have installed versions (1.9.18 and 2.0.3) of Samba successfully on AIX based servers without any problems. We are now trying to install Samba v2.0.4b onto a Digital UNIX 4.0d server. Everthing has installed correctly. Shares can be created through editing the smb.conf file and then accessed correctly through our NT network as desired. The problem we have is using the SWAT interface. We can

DNS instead of WINS
I have not found any Samba documentation explaining using DNS for name resolution. We are running a name server on the network which was set up for several reasons. I find our DNS server is faster, more reliable and doesn't generate mangled machine names like our NT WINS server, which can't be edited. This doesn't happen with DNS since the names are all entered statically. We have

Password authentication via NT server on 1.9.18p5
I have two Caldera Linux Intel boxes running as Samba servers (1.9.18p8) using an NT server (SP3) for user authentication and have no problems. I cannot get a new box to work this way. The new machine is a DEC Alpha running Red Hat 5.1 with Samba 1.9.18p5 (pre-installed). The smb.conf file contains (among other things): encrypt passwords = yes security = server password server = XYZ Using the

Browsing only works when in Samba workgroup
Hi, We have a central Samba server which works fine. It also supplies WINS services which work fine. It also builds a browse list which seems to work fine. However, when I open 'Entire Network' on my W95 desktop machine on another subnet, I only see the workgroups / hosts on my subnet. The 95 machine is pointing to the Samba server as a WINS server. If I change the workgroup of

Re: ZFS: creating a pool in a created zfs does not work, only when using the whole zfs-pool.
Thank you for your reply. I have managed to create a virtual machine on my ZFS-filesystem using virt-install:-) It seems to me that my version of libvirt (Ubuntu 17.04) has problems enumerating the devices when "virsh vol-list“ is used. The volumes are available for virt-install but not thru virsh or virt-manager. As to when the volumes disappear in virsh vol-list - I have no idea. I’m not

Solaris hardware crypto engines
Hello, I tried to find out how about to use the hardware crypto engines under Solaris (Sun Fire T2000). It seems, that its not just a compilation issue: > For operations that are to be offloaded, it is necessary to restrict use to subset > of OpenSSL functions (the EVP_ functions) and explicitly indicate the use of the PKCS11 > engine; something like the following works for bulk

OpenSolaris Sparc Xen boot problem
I am running OpenSolaris build 134 on a T1000 (Sparc). It has been an uphill battle getting this far. error in logs, but system appears to work
I'm bringing up a system with dovecot that has been running for years with uw-imap. In making the switch, I put a tail on the log file, made the switch, and sent a test mail and received it. I was able to receive mail with no apparent difficulties, but the log file was disconcerting. A number of users connected during the few minutes I had it running, and for each of them there was an

error - dovecot - child (login) killed with signal 16
We've been happily running Dovecot in Solaris 10 for about 8 months now. Yesterday, Solaris 10's SMF put it in maintenance mode (shut it down) seemingly out of the blue. The only thing going on was that I had updated the ssl certificate. We had previously been using a self signed cert. Now we have a cert from InCommon. We had a problem with a few users who are still on ancient Eudora

ZFS: creating a pool in a created zfs does not work, only when using the whole zfs-pool.
Hi, I’m new here so apologies if this has been answered before. I have a box that uses ZFS for everything (ubuntu 17.04) and I want to create a libvirt pool on that. My ZFS pool is named „big" So i do: > zfs create big/zpool > virsh pool-define-as --name zpool --source-name big/zpool --type zfs > virsh pool-start zpool > virsh pool-autostart zpool > virsh pool-list >

imap core dumping on signal 10
We are just trying to bring up a new server and chose to use Dovecot rather than the uw-imap from our previous servers. At this point I am just testing with some throw away accounts using squirrelmail. I can load my inbox, but then the imap connection is lost. I presume you need some real information to get your teeth into, so this is going to get a little long. I'll give you three things

Slow Samba4 Domain Join
I used "/usr/bin/time" to time how long it took to join a DC to our domain. It took 9 hours, 54 minutes and 16 seconds. The logs follow: Committing SAM database Sending DsReplicateUpdateRefs for all the replicated partitions Setting isSynchronized and dsServiceName Setting up secrets database Joined domain DIGIPEN.EDU (SID S-1-5-21-REDACTED) as a DC 35461.84user 26.13system

include = %what?
Hi ! Let's assume we want to let users to see only certain shares. A simple way to do this would be to put a line like this in smb.conf: include = smb.conf.%u ;from "man smb.conf", include section: "It takes ;standards substitution, except %u, %S, %P" So, another ways can be: include = smb.conf.%U or include = %H/smb.conf

SAMBA digest 2047
Thanks Andy ! Unfortunately the situation is unchanged. Interesting is that sometime Win98 can see the correct shares but only the first time when is accessing Samba and then... lost. I'm still trying . Can someone tell me how to find what values those %.. parameters take when Samba is acessed ? Alex > > Go to http://www.reac.com/samba/ and check out the stuff with

Samba4 ClassicUpgrade post-migration issues
Hi there, I've successfully migrated an extremely large Samba3 domain to Samba4. The platforms involved: Samba files (/var/lib/samba) copied from a Debian 6-based Samba3 PDC with an LDAP backend Debian 7 with Samba4 installed from backports, with slapd installed locally (and now disabled). However, a number of things appear to be wrong: dpadmin at samba4-dev0:~$ host -t SRV

recycle bin module, touch, TIME/DATE
Hi all... There seems to be an issue with the recycle bin module for samba 2.2.8a.... When files are deleted, the time/date is not touched to the current time/date, making it hard to write scripts that empty the trash based on deletion date..... Strangely enough, the time/date of deleted folders is touched Anyone having the same problem ? -ipguy
