Win95 and wsock32.dll...
Hi, everyone! Can someone tell me why after configuring our Win95 clients as Samba clients (using tcp/ip and Microsoft Network) all browsers as well as ftp complain that there is no socket connection or that wsock32.dll is not available? Samba as well as email works fine and I did not have this problem with Win98 clients. The clients I am talking about use older versions of Win95. Earlier

NT logon problem
Hi! I have Samba 2.0.0 running on a SPARC Solaris 2.6 box with a minimal smb.conf. I have enabled WINS support and this works as well. Everything works fine except for one NT box. Test 8 in Diagnosis.txt fails with: System error 5 has occurred. Access denied. The NT box is setup as a server, though only used as an ftp-server. Samba recognizes the NT server. Being a Unix guy myself, I

Neither scp nor sftp works (2.5.1p1 and Solaris 2.6) :(
Hi, sorry about bothering you like this but despite several tries my recent posts to ssh at clinet.fi never appear on that list, and I don't know where else to turn. I was unable to get sftp/scp to work when using OpenSSH 2.3.0p1. No one could solve this problem and evenutally I was told to try "a recent snapshot". Now I've installed 2.5.1p1, but still no cigarr :(. I have

SMBMount and backup application
I would like some advice. I am considering the best way to restructure my backup scheme on my NT network. I would like to see if it would be possible/feasible to use cron, smbmount, some SCSI tape drives, and some type of archive tool to backup my NT shares to a RedHat box using Samba. What do all of you do out there? I would envision a situation where each night a script is run by cron that

Win clients on other subnets
Hello! I have Samba 2.0.0 installed on an UltraSPARC server (Solaris 2.6, NIS). I only use Samba for file and printer sharing (I have about 15 Win-clients). My smb.conf is minimal. Everything works fine. Now I want 5 more Win98-clients to use the Samba shares. However, these are on a different subnet. When I try 'net view \\myserver' on one of these boxes I get: Error 51: The

Binary file input to R
I suspect that the recent queries about reading database files into R implicitely answered my question here, but I'll ask anyway. Are there any native binary file read routines in R? I need to a binary data file consisting of 2 byte records, strip off the upper 6 bits (using a logical AND, leaving a ten bit word), and then write the ten bit number in text form for R. Assuming that R

R binomial RNG stuck at 1 via Fortran call
Hi, I have some trouble with the result of a fortran function calling the R binomial RNG: The C function rbinom is wrapped as in the file attached. My main fortran program starts as call rndstart() and ends as call rndend() I happen to call the binomial RNG within a loop as b = ggrbinom(1.d0,0.5d0) write(*,*) 'b=',b In certain cases, after a few iterations in the loop, b get

Running R away from windows (to Linux)
I want to migrate my R workspace databases (e.g., .Rdata) from Windows to Linux. The R help file for "save" says that "[a]ll R platforms use the XDR representation of binary objects in binary save-d files, and these are portable across all R platforms." Is it is simple as that? Copy the Windows .Rdata file to the Linux .ext3 file system? Thanks, Derek Derek N. Eder

Returning position of mouse cursor (without button press) ?
I would like a function that return the X,Y position of the mouse cursor whenever it is called PERIOD, i.e., without the button presses of locator() or identify(). E.G., > where.is.mouse() [1] 123 34 # X and Y coordinates of present mouse position in current graphics window Is this a conceivable R function or does it need to be addressed with a call to the OS (Windows 2000 in my case)?

Package-check failure (i386) (PR#8822)
Full_Name: Dan Kelley Version: 2.3.0 OS: OSX Macintosh Submission from: (NULL) (142.68.207.218) R2.3.0 has a problem checking one of my self-authored Oce package (http://myweb.dal.ca/kelley/pub/sof/oce/index.php). The package builds fine on another machine running a R2.2.1. Both machines are macintoshes running the latest version of OSX. I am reporting this here not to get help - I realize

Scope problems - passing an argument from one function to another (LME) within
I am having trouble understanding what must be a quite simple rule of scope. In the code example below, the argument to the main function, my.subset, would like to be passed to the function LME. This does not happen however. Curiously, the other argument (my.data) is passed to LME. This problem goes away with this: assign("my.subset", my.subset, env = sys.frame()). It works, but it

Problem with printer driver sharing Win2k klients.
Hi... I got this new server at work that I have to get 100% up and running by tomorrow. It's running Samba 2.2.1a on SuSE 7.3 Pro It's supposed to be VPN - File and Printer Server The printers are: One OCE 700C / CS90 color copier and One OCE 3165 And there is only one problem left. I can install the printer drivers for Win9x & NT on the samba server. But I can't figure out how to

CUPS working but errors from Windows clients accessing printer
Hi, On CentOS 6.4 (newdc), I have CUPS 1.4.2-50.el6_4.5 installed, can access its web interface. There I set up our main shared printer, an OCE Imagistics cm2520, and successfully printed a test page. With SerNet Samba 4.0.9 on the same box configured every which example way I could find, I cannot seem to get it to the point where double-clicking the printer in Windows (W2K3, OLDDC) opens

Regular Expressionsionism
Isn't there a cryptic footnote somewhere in the blue book that describes regular expressions as "a funny little language ..." ? Well, I'm not laughing! I've googled and Man paged, but the GREP-style solution to the following problem still eludes me: ... Using a regular expression in the "pattern" argument to list.files() to restrict the return to filenames which

Cox regression
Hi! I would like to do Cox regression using the available routines in the survival package BUT I want to use an arbitrary link function, i.e. want to use the model h(t)=h_0(t)r(beta'z) with arbitrary function r, instead of h(t)=h_0(t)exp(beta'z) Grateful for any comment on this, Dragi ----------------------------------------------------------- Dragi Anevski, PhD Mathematical

More Q's about theora...
I have a few more questions about theora... if someone could answer or point me to a source of the information... Firstly in the header there is width and height parameters. Are these fixed for the entire file ? Is it possible for say halfway through the dimensions of the video to be changed ie two different size videos are spliced together ? If it is... does the header represent the first

Interpretation of hypothesis tests for mixed models
My question concerns the logic behind hypothesis tests for fixed-effect terms in models fitted with lme. Suppose the levels of Subj indicate a grouping structure (k subjects) and Trt is a two-level factor (two treatments) for which there are several (n) responses y from each treatment and subject combination. If one suspects a subject by treatment interaction, either of the following models seem
