Nonportable use of strdup()
Hey, I ran across this while building vorbis on the Mac: In libvorbis RC2, file info.c, line 65, there's a call to strdup(). strdup() isn't portable, and it looks like the code should use the internal memory functions to create the memory for the string anyway. Actually, on further inspection, it looks like the memory for the user comments is never actually freed. I'm not subscribed

Re: specified network name no more available
I was stung by this bug yesterday myself and although there are numerous references to this error message I haven't seen any qualified resolution of the problem. Not that the following rant hopes to be such, but it's a good story. My setup is a stable 2.2.8a production domain and an experimental 3.0.2a-SuSE domain. The passwd backend is still smbpasswd. I wish there were a better

Joining an NT domain?
Howdy, I've run into some problems adding a Unix server to an NT domain. I've followed the instructions in DOMAIN_MEMBER.txt; when running the smbpasswd command: ./bin/smbpasswd -j CS-NT -r CS-NTS1 I get the following errors: modify_trust_password: machine CS-NTS1 rejected the session setup. Error was : code 131. 1999/07/26 11:36:37 : change_trust_account_password: Failed to

Network is STILL busy...
Here is some log output that occurs on the production during the process of issuing a net use command from the win95 box to the samba server. The connection reset by peer message appears immediately after the error 54 network is busy message appears on the windows 95 machine. Out of connections: here too
Hi samba fans, We run samba on Solaris SunOS 5.8, samba 2.2.2 and are plagued by failing connections for a while. We have about 150 people at max usage connecting simultaneous to 1 samba server, mostly from within Win NT Terminal Server Sessions (this might be related, as these sessions occur from only from four different IP's namely our four TS servers) Symptom: user cannot mount one

[LLVMdev] using external functions from llvm
> I'm afraid that you might be utterly confused about how to use LLVM. Er, I don't think so? I think I was mostly just confused about interfacing with external functions, since whoever wrote that blog post ( http://www.gearleaf.com/blog/post/44) didn't seem to know what he was talking about (or he was doing stuff that once worked but now doesn't? I don't know). If you

Frustrating experience - Xen networking.
Hello, I am having a frustrating time trying to get bridge networking working. I''ve gone over the Wiki page on the topic, a few of the howtoforge pages and everything that I am doing is failing utterly. What I want to achieve is to have Dom0 be a stub running two DomUs. One DomU being a router/firewall and the other being the rest of what is on the current machine.

Network is busy...
I have done a great deal of reading regarding the network is busy error, but haven't come up with an answer for one particular problem. Here is the situation. Two identical DGUX machines are sitting on a network. Both machines are running Samba 1.9.10 with no problems other than performance. Upon several recommendations about improving performance, they decided to upgrade to 2.0.3.

HTML Fragment not Loading in Firefox; Fine Elsewhere
Ok, this has got me going a bit crazy. I have an HTML fragment being returned for the result to an AJAX query. It works fine in Safari or from curl (and even in IE/Mac), but utterly fails to load in Firefox, even if I point directly to the URL, skipping all that AJAX stuff in between. (The server logs show a 200 response, regardless of which browser is being used.) I''ve verified

quick question on machine name
I have a box I just installed centos 4.5 on. The name of the machine in /etc/hosts is TomSlick.xyz.com TomSlick (for example). the name of the machine in /etc/sysconfig/network HOSTNAME=TomSlick.xyz.com Note both are upper case: Yet when I login as root the prompt is showing me tomslick in lower case not a combo upper lower. I have grepped /etc and below for tomslick and cannot find why this

CentOS 7 and display managers
<rant> Dear gnome developers - could you *possibly* be more anti-Unix? I mean, thanks *so* much for trying to turn Linux into Windows or Macs.... </rant> So, now that I've gotten that out, the KDE display manager, on the login screen, easily lets you choose window managers. Gnome utterly refuses to consider such an idea. I've just yum groupinstall "KDE Plasma

some win machines see samba, some not.
Hello, I have this big problem which bothers me for past week(s). I have setup a simple samba network on win95 only net and it worked fine. This time I try to setup a samba on a network having win98 WinNT 4.0 sp4 and WinNT4.0 WS SP 5. I believe all machines are on the same local net. I have tried both samba 2.0.5a (RH6.1 default) as well as samba 2.0.7. I can use 'smbclient'

Samba DMB "loses" machines in the Network Neighborhood
I have a long running problem with my configuration of Samba as a domain master browser. After nmbd comes up, all the machines on the network are viewable in the Network Neighborhood as they should be. But about half an hour later, Samba seems to lose track of several machines; they no longer appear in NN or /var/cache/samba/browse.dat. I recently upgraded to a packaged version 3.0.20b (for

incorporating linux machines in windows network
Hi all, We have been running samba servers for a few years now. All is running very well. Lately we are seeing more and more linux workstations in our network. We've always helped them to manually map shares etc, which works well. But we are really looking for a way to automatically create the necessary drives (mounts) upon logging into the network. (with something like a linux

Samba4 server not visible browsing network listed machines
Hi, I have setted a AD-DC controller with Ubuntu Server 14.04 LTS and Samba 4. When I browse my network using a Windows client (XP, 7 , 8 and10) I can't see my new server in the listed machines. I can see all Windows and Linux samba3 machines: only if I call the Samba4 server by ip address I can see all my shared folders on it. Is there a way to make it visible by Windows clients? Thanks
