Upgrading Samba
I am in the process of planning for a samba upgrade. The current version of Samba (2.2.8a) runs on a Sunfire 280R with Solaris 8. The intended new platform is a sunfire V240 with Solaris 9 as the OS. The new version of Samba will be Samba-3.0.10. Please note that the Samba server will be a member of a domain. I've read Samba-3 by Example, Chapter 8 which describes to the process of updating

[SOLVED] Win NT 4.0 SP4 access to Samba 1.9.16p9
Hello folks - back on April 2nd I asked why my NT 4.0 with SP4 computer wouldn't connect to my old copy of Samba (1.9.16p9), while my neighbour's NT 4.0 with SP3 computer did just fine. This was in the case of a read-write share that only myself and my neighbour had access to under our user names. A read-only share worked just fine on both our computers. Thanks to Herb Lewis & Jan

SUM: After upgrade to 2.0.6, Win98 users can't connect to Samba shares
Hi everybody - Yesterday, I said that my Windows 98 & 95 computers couldn't connect to my Samba shares after upgrading from version 1.9.16p9 to 2.0.6, while my NT 4.0 (SP4 & SP6) computers could, even though I had the same user names & passwords on all the machines (UNIX, Win'9x, NT). I re-read the "What's New in Samba 2.0.6" document this morning, and found

After upgrade to 2.0.6, Win98 users can't connect to Samba shares
Hello everyone - I just upgraded from Samba 1.9.16p9 to 2.0.6 last week. Samba is running on my Digital UNIX 4.0E (aka Tru64 aka OSF1) workstation, and I have various Win'95, Win'98, and NT 4.0 (SP4 & SP6) computers accessing the Samba shares. One share is read-only, and one is read/write to specific users (I've included my smb.conf file below). If a users accesses the

Old Samba 1.9.16p9, NT 4.0 SP3 & NT 4.0 SP4, read-write problems
Hello list. I've been running an old version of Samba (1.9.16p9) to give read-only access to my Digital UNIX 4.0B workstation hard drives (the share is called "rootdir"). It's worked great for over 2 years for that purpose. I finally want to give read-write access to 2 users (myself and my assistant). Her computer has NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3. Mine has NT 4.0 with Service

Linux SMB Mount utils patch
Hi, I'm sure that you are all aware that the mount utilities that ship with samba are designed to compile and run only with Linux 2.1 series development kernels. I'll _try_ keep this short and sweet while doing my best to explain what I have done, since I have a tendancy to ramble on. I have two boxes, one Linux with libc5, and another with Linux and Glibc2 (aka libc6). The Samba

I have samba-1.9.18p10 installed on my solaris 2.6 server. I also use my NT PDC domain. The smb.conf look like this: workgroup = MYNTPDC server string = MYSAMBA hosts allow = xxx.xxx.xxx.; localhost load printers = yes ; printcap name = /etc/printcap ; printcap name = lpstat ; printing = bsd ; guest account = pcguest log file = /opt/samba-1.9.18p10/var/log.%m lock

Securring DHCP, with DDNS
You may have 2 dhcps running, but you have to make sure the lease ranges are different. The first dns server stanza should refer to the server which gets the lease update. For the dns servers you would need to define each other as forwarder, probably by ip range, to be able to resolve the other (half of the) names. -- W.Mautner (Walter.mautner at ages.at) +43050555111 IKT Hotline > Am

Another mistake : The louis's script ddns-kerberos-check.sh was not running in hourly.cron directory ( i make a chmod 770 to resolve that ) to recall here what I did: - I cloned the Windows 2000 server AD servers on a private network and I migrated to samba4 - Meanwhile, users have continued to use the Windows 2000 AD servers on the production network - I replaced the production servers

If I don't use DHCP failover, can you tell me how to do to to have manually dhcp start method working... I think I could made a mistake, this is what i did : ( I using Louis script from "old set of script" directory : https://secure.bazuin.nl/scripts/ ) - On server S4 : resolv.conf set to S4 first and S4bis in second - On server S4 : in dhcp-dyndns-debian.sh,

domain backup online
Afaik one is not supposed to ever restore a DC in case you are running multiple. Thus I am wondering why you want to do (online or not) backups at all. Or did that rule change? samba 4 joining a Windows 2003 srv / Sync and DNS problems
hello, After a lot of different approach to move from an old windows 2000 server AD to samba4, my last try seems nearly good now... I did this : - Preparing the old DC with adprep commands - add DNS and AD roles in a new temporary win 2003srv - add this new server as an AD controller - transfer all roles to win2003 with ntdsutil command - demote win2000 - put the AD domain and forest functional

That domain member server worked fine for about 2 weeks until today. Somehow the DNS-record didn't work anymore, I did a rejoin and added some kerberos-related lines to smb.conf # 2 lines old winbind cache time = 10 winbind use default domain = yes # new lines dedicated keytab file = /etc/krb5.keytab kerberos method = secrets and keytab winbind refresh tickets = Yes created keytab,
