Functions in a package not visible to a user
That's one of the purposes of the namespace. See Prof. Tierney's article in the R Newsletter, or the slides of his keynote lecture at the useR! 2004 conference. It's also explained in the `Writing R Extensions' manual. Basically you only export functions that the users should see. The manual also explains how to not document functions that aren't intended to be called by

Nnet: Returning the response
Hello list. Maybe this is a simple question but I can't find the answer anywhere. With lm I use the parameter y=TRUE to have the response returned in $y. Of course, namely because of NA's in the data frame, this might not include all the values in the original column. For example: > data(airquality) > length(airquality$Day) [1] 153 > my.lm <- lm(Day~.,data=airquality,y=TRUE)

optimizing speed of calculation (recursive product)
Dear list, I'm wondering how to optimize functions/processes like the one shown below (which simplifies something we're trying to do with very large datasets). In many cases I've noticed that using apply, sapply etc can help speeding up processes, but in this case I don't see how I could do so. a <- runif(10000000,0.5,1.6) C <- 2 M <- 10000000 system.time( for (i in

enable eyeBeam to accept only one call
Hello I'm using eyeBeam, and Asterisk keeps sending my clients a second call, when they are still in one call (because eyeBeam has lots of channels). I was using X-Lite (with 3 channels) and Asterisk never sent the client a second call. How can I force Asterisk (or eyeBeam) just to send one call at each time. Is this a configuration I need to do in eyeBeam or Asterisk? Thanks Regards Joao

Directory readonly with rw permission for files
Hi folks, I'm migrating a customer old NT server to a Samba/Mandrake server. Everything is working fine and fast. The only problem I found is that some directory structures must be readonly but the files inside this directories must be read-write to the group. Only the administrator can create/delete directories and he did it manually. Is it possible to do that with Samba without using

Plugins and message file access
Hello. I need to know how I can get the final message file name inside a plugin like the zlib 2.0 plugin. I saw another threads about zlib plugin, but don't see no one asking about this. My interest is to use the message's file name in a specific function that will add some lines on it and, after that, calculate a md5 hash of the modified file. As the size flags will not correspond to

What is the correct format for the shebang line and what options are allowed or necessary along with this? I find plenty of blogs and opinions, but few authoritative answers. I want an R script to run and update packages periodically, with a cron job that launches it. What is necessary to put in line one of the R program.
