HP-UX user resource and shared homedir
Hi, on HP-UX we want some users to have the same homedir. Homedir is managed by puppet as file resource. We now want to move the users to another primary group. useradd.sam complains: err: /User[XXX]/gid: change from 3 to 0 failed: Could not set gid on user[XXX]: Execution of ''/usr/sam/lbin/usermod.sam -F -g 0 XXX'' returned 45: Cannot modify user ''XXX'':

Netlogon no longer works in 2.2.6 with W2k client
Hi, We've got a fairly simple samba setup (no ldap/winbind etc) and until recently everything worked fine (using samba-2.2.5). But after switching to samba-2.2.6 w2k-clients fail to run the netlogon-scripts. When i look at the client it says: logonserver=\\<workstationname> BTW. The output of "nmblookup -S CPB" (to me) seems to say that CPB is the logonserver. querying CPB

HP-UX 10.20 assistance
To Whomever can assist, I am looking for anyone who has gotten OpenSsh 3.7.1p2 to build under HP-UX 10.20. I am working with the latest gcc (v. 3.3.1), gmake (v. 3.80), and Openssl (0.9.7c) and I still can not get OpenSsh to build properly. It errors out on the build process with a: loginrec.c:1405: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type cing pointer to incomplete type loginrec.c:1514:

Samba processes domain authenticated user as nobody during logon. bat execution
Beating head on desk again! I have a samba server is running winbind which can access domain. It is working fine and is using domain credentials. I access the samba shares after the user has authenticated against a novell server during the novell logon script. The shares are authenticated with user domain credentials and verified with smbstatus. This works great! If I alternatively use windows

3.7.1p2: HP-UX 11.00 & NIS+ problems
Hi all, When we installed OpenSSH 3.7.1p2, we could no longer ssh into the root account. The following message would appear in the syslog.log: Oct 8 19:20:38 myhost sshd[22179]: User root not allowed because account is locked We use NIS+ under HP-UX 11.00. We have very recently changed the root password. To change the root password under NIS+ we do the following: # passed # chkey -p #

fd passing pty handling
We don't currently support SVR4-style fd passing which involves I_SENDFD/I_RECVFD ioctls. I'm not sure if that might help some p platforms with privsep. Some platforms that use STREAMS ptys use a set-uid root helper to handle the privileged portions of pty creation. grantpt(3) has a bit more info. on Solaris 8 it's: /usr/lib/pt_chmod on HP-UX it's: /usr/lbin/chgpt Perhaps this

Tracing puppet processing for HP-UX user passwords
I have finally gotten Ruby 1.8.7 to compile properly with SSL libraries on HPUX so now I am fighting how to get puppet to manage passwords. First I modified the hpux.rb under the providers/user directory to have it use /usr/sam/lbin/useradd.sam to add users and that worked great right off the bat. The problem I am having now is that each time puppet runs it does not seem to be getting the

Doubts about sharing a winprinter
Hi there, I own a domestic lan with two computers, mine and my mother's one. Mine is called GREENDEMON and the other one is called BLUEDEMON and they both are configured to run on the REDLOCAL workgroup. I've Debian Woody running on GREENDEMON and Windows 98 running on BLUDEMON, with an attached Nec Silentwriter Superscript 610 printer. This printer is only compatible with Windows 9x

no, I see now, tru64 pty ownership wrong on entry to setup_sia, may need /usr/lbin/chgpt (WAS Re: Tru64 privsep patch testing)
Hi Toni, I'm sorry, I haven't had much time to work on this today. When I run sshd (from the patched snapshot) in a debugger, with a breakpoint early in setup_sia(), this is what I find after connecting with a client: (1) There are two sshd processes. One is running as root, and the other as the user I logged with using the client. The root process is the one in the debugger,

CentOS-4/alpha 4.1beta is there to play
Hi, I've always been kind of on/off with alpha. Remember making some kind of debian/alpha installer back -97ish. Lately (like past 2 years), i've been compiling SRPMS on alpha too from time to time. Most of my alpha hardware was pretty much ancient crap, so i wasn't quite confident pushing anything out to public as i wasn't able to test even if EV6 would be ok. Little over week

Can't connect to shared printer
I carried out a Unix/Samba upgrade at the weekend, and upgraded Samba from 2.2.8 to 3.0.10. The server is acting as a PDC, and WINS server. Our PCs are running Windows XP Pro SP1. I didn't make any changes to the PCs. One PC has an old LaserJet4 attached to a parallel port, and it shares this printer so that four other users can print to it. This morning, no-one can print to this

R-beta: R-0.62.1 under Digital Unix: plot.new
I am trying to set up R-0.62.1 on an alphastation running digital unix 3.2D. I had R-0.61.1 working fine, but have had a number of problems getting 0.62.1 going.... The next problem is that plotting to any device causes R to hang. Looking at processor usage it would appear that it gets stuck in an infinite loop rather than pausing for input. I have managed to track the problem down to plot.new().

Slow Network performance with ArcView and Samba
Hi, We are experiencing a very slow network when loading files from the Samba server (Samba V1.9.18p4 on Digital Unix V4.0B). A file transfer of a 5 MB file from the samba server to a NT Workstation with FTP takes about 10 seconds. The transfer of the same file with using the NT-Explorer takes also about 10 seconds. The load of the same file (it is a tiff file) with a application called

SAMBA 2.0 Packaging request
I do not know how many others are in this case, but I must use either floppies or tapes to transport the Samba product after I download it. Floppies are more convenient than tape because the tape medium is TK50 on OpenVMS and it is very slow. Is is possible to produce the production release in a two archive set so that it can be more easily sneaker-netted? Thank you, John Malmberg

Samba 2.0 and passwords
Hello all, I have asked this before but I have not found a solution. I have one Dec Alpha running Tru-64-UNIX, formerly DecUNIX, v4.0d. I am running 2.0.2 and have run 2.0.0 with no problems. SWAT works fine on it also. I have 2 other systems, one running v4.0d and the other running v4.0b. On those systems I can connect to guest volumes just fine but anything that requires a password fails
