Can someone tell me how to configure my unix printers so that no banner page is printed at the beginning of a print job? I have gotten the printing to work, but I want to stop the banner page. What file do I change to configure that? AIX, 4.2.1, with NT Clients. Thanks in Advance, Pattee Bender Uniform Color Company

How to set up spooling for a HP JetDirect interface?
I've set up Samba and LPRng for HP printers with JetDirect cards. It works for one user at a time. But if the printer is off-line or busy, the samba client does not get an error message, but the job gets lost. :( I would like the print jobs to be spooled on Linux even when there is an active print job or when the printer is off-line. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with lpd. The

Anyone successfully using a HP 8000 DN (with JetDirect module and IP) with samba?
Anyone successfully using a HP 8000 DN or HP 5 Lsi (with JetDirect module and assigned IP) with samba? Subject says it all. If you're successfully doing this, what configs made it work? FAQs tell how to set up with a print server, but what if the printer itself is the server? Trust me, the HP doesn't know jack about port 139. Using samba 2.0.4 on Solaris 7 and NT 4.0 SP5 with

SMBTAR Not Backing up Files
I am having trouble getting SMBTAR to do a complete backup on NT Workstation and NT Server. The backup starts off just fine. However, after a short time, errors begin showing up and files are not backed up. The files that are missed are not open files. I have set the -t option to disk and tape. I get pretty much the same result. Both NT machines have over 2 GB of data to backup up. I am

Compiling on AIX3.2.5
I have tried to compile 2.0.4b and 2.0.5a on AIX3.2.5 and it gives a problem when I test it with "smbclient -L bigserver", that was discussed in the archives. I thought it was fixed. It gives:- [1999/07/22 20:57:05, 0] smbd/uid.c:(68) Couldn't set effective uid to 207. Currently set to (real=0,eff=0). Error was Not owner [1999/07/22 20:57:05, 0] smbd/service.c:(463) Can't

Samba causing problems with NT tools
Samba is causing a couple huge problems for the NT admins here since we switched a bunch of machines to security=server and started running nmbd. We're running Samba 2.0.2 and 2.0.3 on a mix of Solaris, HP-UX, and OSF1 machines. One, selecting a Samba server in Server Manager, then selecting Computer/ Services causes Server Manager to crash ("An application error has occurred, blah blah,

Visual C++ fails to recognize changed file
We're having a problem that is the reverse of prblems that others have had: if we have a file open in Visual C++, and change it from another editor (either on the PC or on Unix), Visual C++ does not notice that it has been changed and ignores the file when it does a make. If the file is on a local drive, everything works fine. We're running Samba version 2.0.4b on Solaris 2.6 and Visual

ogg causing me heart burn
Dear forum, I have a install of asterisk using AMP. I followed the install guide off the AMP site. http://amp.coalescentsystems.ca/docs/AMP_Installation_Guide_v1.4.pdf When I start using amportal start or asterisk -ccccv I received this in my log. The last line is that ogg failed. I have found nothing on the web about this, and I am not even sure where to start troubleshooting. Any help

One NT & Unix Password
I have used samba for the past two years using an NT Server as my PDC/password server and AIX for mounting samba shares and printing. The AIX host also runs other applications that require telnet login. I would like to stream line the password policy process (i.e.. only one password for NT/Win98 and Unix logins without the user having to do separate processes to change passwords). I understand

Glusterfs 2.0 hangs on high load
Hello! After upgrade to version 2.0, now using 2.0.1, I'm experiencing problems with glusterfs stability. I'm running 2 node setup with cliet side afr, and glusterfsd also is running on same servers. Time to time glusterfs just hangs, i can reproduce this running iozone benchmarking tool. I'm using patched Fuse, but same result is with unpatched.

-n vs batch_mode vs batch_flag
How is -n supposed to work? When you say ssh -n, it sets stdin_null_flag but not batch mode. When the client is choosing authmethods, there is a batch_flag that is tested to see (presumably) if we are in batch mode or perhaps if -n has been given. But nothing sets it. It looks like it's supposed to point to options.batch_mode, but it's never even initialized! Even if it did point to

HTTP encapsulated rsync??
Hi folks, I am hoping someone here can offer some suggestions. Here is my situation: I am using rsync over the internet for several hundred clients to keep them in sync with a master repository of files. The rsync daemon is listening on port 80, because most of the clients are behind firewalls that only allow outbound port 80 (and other common ports). This works fine for most of them
