Metropolis acceptance rates
Is there a way to recover Metropolis-step acceptance rates AFTER completing posterior draws? The immediate application is in the probit.bayes and logit.bayes models used by Zelig... which I believe is merely calling MCMCpack. So one strategy, to which I am fixing to resort, is to call, say, MCMClogit with verbose set to mcmc (or mcmc divided by an integer) and then look at my screen.

winbindd will not connect to samba pdc
I'm trying to migrate to a Samba PDC from an NT PDC. Right now I'm testing whether a Samba member server can effectively grab user account info from a Samba PDC. Both the PDC and the member server are vanilla, no-frills Redhat 9 machines, the PDC is running Samba 3.0.9 and the member is running 3.0.11. I've followed the instructions in the Samba HOWTO for setting up winbindd, that

How does Norvergence do it ?
So a guy shows up at the the office, after making an appointment with the office manager / receptionist to talk 'phone systems'. After her eyes glaze over, with him talking T1 and Frame-Relay I get to see him. He's from Norvergence. Well dressed. Tells me they can do a T1 for $79, with unlimited local & long distance for free. It also does 'internet'. 'Just give me

Specifying Ajax hyperlinks
I was about to put this as a feature request but I wasn''t sure if anyone would consider it useful so I thought I''d ask here. I''m not sure what the feeling on specifying links is - it strikes me as something that needs doing because it''s generated code at the end of the day. I''ve got a few lines now along the lines of:

installing an add-on package
Dear all, my apologies if I am posting a silly question - but I couldn't find any helpful information on this elswhere. In the R FAQ, version 1.8-1, there is a section "5.2 How can add-on packages be installed?", but it only gives information for Unix users. How can I install an add-on package under Windows? (Specifically, I have downloaded the "rmeta" package from CRAN.)

Debian SID versions messed ujp
Last few days had wine 20050111-1 but was missing stuff like libwine-alsa. Any attempt to install would remove all the existing modules. Now has everything for the 20050111-1 but has wine and wine-dev for 20050211-1. Attempts to install will quack.

Evaluating R expressions from C
I am currently puzzled by a passage in the R Extensions manual, section 5.10: SEXP lapply(SEXP list, SEXP expr, SEXP rho) { R_len_t i, n = length(list); SEXP ans; if(!isNewList(list)) error("`list' must be a list"); if(!isEnvironment(rho)) error("`rho' should be an environment"); PROTECT(ans = allocVector(VECSXP, n));

How can I make these command prompt settings into universal settings?
I've got it so that I can enable Japanese input into an application by typing the following at a command prompt (with FireFox, for example): [dave at localhost ~]$ kinput2 -canna & [1] 10631 [dave at localhost ~]$ XMODIFIERS='@im=kinput2' LC_CTYPE=ja_JP.utf8 firefox However, I would rather not have to type in all that craziness each time I want to start an application. Further,

"Decent" sub-$100 SIP phone.
Hey, all. I quoted a customer about $100 for some cheap SIP phones. I was planning on using the BT-102's, but he called said they look like "Princess phones," and I have to admit that he has a point. Some of the other inexpensive phones look decent, but (for example) the SPA-841's wiki entry says the remote end gets a lot of static. Since it'll be being used from a noisy

share folders in BTRFS w/o having to retransfer back from a wind0ze computer
I have the samba with AC DC running... that was fun...not. Debian Wheezy with backport, # samba --version Version 4.1.7-Debian and I am using BTRFS for the file systems. My issue. I have about 400gig of files that were shared with a samba the old way, security = user I was hoping I could just change the ownership recursively to be something standard, like root:sambashares and put it in the

Learn Typing Quick & Easy - unusual message from app
A friend of mine gave me a Cd with the "Learn Typing Quick & Easy" program. It installs, but when I ran it, quit with the following message 'Wrong version of operating system; requires Windows NT 3.51 (build 1057 or above) Maybe it would run if I could give it the required version build number (I tried setting the Windows version to NT 3.51, but that didn't satisfy it).

Somewhat basic routing question
Hi guys, I realise this is problaby more basic than what this list is intended for, but I had no luck elswhere. Short version: I have previously used these lines on a server with two network interfaces, two public IPs, and one common default gateway, to make sure that connections coming into eth1 is replied to replied to via the same interface. eth0 is 196.xx.xx.35, eth1 is 196.xx.xx.54,

[LLVMdev] Optimized "opt" on Darwin fails to load dynamic libraries with passes
I see now that this clearly to the problem raised elswhere, for example: http://lists.cs.uiuc.edu/pipermail/llvmdev/2010-December/036764.html http://lists.cs.uiuc.edu/pipermail/llvmdev/2010-November/036289.html So clearly a repeating issue on the MacOS platform.
