Samba 4.2.14 Group Policy (GPO) sync error
Even some more observations.
I noticed when I join my machine to AD it prompts a second time for the
credentials. It does not matter what I enter or even cancel the dialog
it will always display an error:
Changing the Primary Domain DNS name of this computer to "" failed.
The name will remain "ad.cyberdyne.local".
Well, actualy this is what I want anyway. I found this

OT: DVB-T TV on CentOS 4.4
Hi Folks,
is a question special to centos-user in germany I think.
I use centos on a desktop-system (yes, I know that centos is special for
servers) and I watch TV with an anaolg card. The qualitiy is not so high.
Now, I'm planning the use of an DVB-T Adapter. My question: There are any
experience or knowing problems with these kind of adapters and centos?
And which Adapter is

syslogd(8) Dropping Privs
I made a quick change to syslogd(8) so that it can drop root
privileges immediately after starting up. It opens up the log
sockets (UNIX and network domains) and writes the PID files
before dropping privs. It drops privs before openning log
files and writing to users. Therefore, you would need to
modify your log file permissions appropriately. As for writing
to users, ttys generally are writeable

Log shows NT4 for an ADS domain
I'm trying to learn about the interactions between SAMBA and win2k DCs. The
eventual goal is to have a Win2k server with ADS working with a freeBSD
SAMBA server. I've used the setup from
http://oslabs.mikro-net.com/fbsd_samba.html as the basis for what I've done
so far. Winbind seems to work and I can show users and groups using wbinfo
although I see some things in the logs that I

Change Request: New Environmental Variable for Username
Presently, the Samba documentation says that the default NetBIOS
username used by client-type applications is determined by the
following (from smbclient(1)),
If no username is supplied, it will default to an
uppercase version of the environment variable USER
or LOGNAME in that order. If no username is sup-

Samba 4.2.14 Group Policy (GPO) sync error
Perhaps I am on the wrong track but I would like to share some
additional observations...
I quickly enabled DNS query logging:
# rndc querylog
Then run another gpupdate on the client.
During the Update I see lots of queries:

smtp over ssh probs
before I start, two notes. I alredy sent this mail to the other
mailing list, but no answer has came back. also, I'm not subscribed to
this list, so please cc me the answers. now, to business.
I have a problem but I don't know exactly what. Or why, better. The
scheme is like this: I don't have a direct connection to the inet,
except for ssh to certain range of ip's at a

SuSe 9.1 startup issue
Tom,
I am NOT subscribed (yet). I dropped SuSeFirewall2 in favor of
shorewall to get past the configuration hurdles I as experiencing.
At the moment, when my SuSe 9.1 starts up, I can see shorewall processing
the rules, policies, etc. and I see no errors and then moves on with the
rest of the SuSe boot process .
However, no traffic passes through using the rules.
I run an iptables -L and I

Packet capture to analysis the tinc connection close
Hi, All
Recently, one of my tinc client always suffer connection drop, I was suspect the connection was not stable to cause this issue, and BTW, I’ve set the PingTimeout to 10 seconds already, but this situation still happens a lot sometimes, but when the connection drop happens, the connection recovery pretty fast, normally in a minutes.
In order to deep dive into the cause, or proven the

Discontinuities in a simple graph (machine precision?)
Hi,
I've got an ugly but fairly simple function:
mdevstdev <- function(a){
l <- dnorm(a)/(1-pnorm(a))
integrand <- function(z)(abs(z-l)*dnorm(z))
inted <- integrate(integrand, a, Inf)
inted[[1]]/((1- pnorm(a))*sqrt((1 + a*l - l^2)))
}
I wanted to quickly produce a graph of this over the range [-3,3] so I
used:
plotit <-function(x=seq(-3,3,0.01),...){

winbuilder down
Dear all,
winbuilder is down.
Given current inspection results and circumstances, I expect a downtime
of *at least* 24 hours.
This applies to on-demand check services, CRAN check service results and
CRAN binary builds for Windows.

Winword/Oplock Performance.
Hi.
When working on a document which has change tracking enabled, and a
large number of outstanding changes, word is forced to do frequent small
IO's as you scroll through the document.
Basically this is because word only uses a 64k buffer for documents by
default. If their are a lot of changes in the document, the physical
file on disk ends up looking something like:

netbios-ns/udp: Server failing (looping)
Hi,
I've downloaded samba-2.0.7-hppa1.1-hp-hpux11.00.tar.Z and installed it on a
HP K380 HP-UX 11.00 server. After starting the services I receive the
following messages in the syslog and therefore can't get it to work:

May 31 01:54:45 gemtst inetd[5462]: bootps/udp: bind: Address already in use
