troubles printing from windows98 to a samba printer
Hello I have this problem with printing to a HP Laser Jet 4L set up on my linux box which is the local samba server for the intranet. I can only print as root or as a user admin user = thatuser. I need to be able to set a password for the printer and only those users to use the printer who know the password. Or a similar solution. As ordinary user Windows98 says:

smbpasswd -j joins wrong domain?
I am having a hell of a time getting a group of Samba servers working together as a domain. My desired setup is to have one Samba PDC (LION) in control of the ANIMALS domain and then have the other Samba file server (HYDRA) join ANIMALS. Simple enough. My smb.conf files are attached. I have added a HYDRA$ machine account to LION per the usual directions. I then follow the simple directions

spauratic loss of machines.
Hello, I've got a samba/win98 problem. This occurs with samba 2.05a and slackware linux 7.0 and freebsd 3.4-release and samba 2.06. I've got two machines, one a pure 98 machine, the other split 50-50 linux and freebsd. All is looking well, samba is my local master, will always win elections etc. Both machines show up and all is good until I restart samba. At that point no matter which

Share Problem
I'm trying to setup a share on my samba server that will allow me to write to the disk on my windows 98 box. It seems quite simple but I get the access denied error messages whenever I try to create or write to the file. I created the disk on my samba server as a DOS 16 bit file system. Here is my smb.conf file: [global] # workgroup = NT-Domain-Name or Workgroup-Name workgroup =

User profiles are not stored on server
Hello! I work at a school in Norway, and am experimenting with a Linux box as a server for our Win95 network. Most things seem to work like they should, except one important thing: The user profiles are _only_ stored on the local machine... I am running Internet Explorer 4.01 with the Users function enabled. The network setup is as follows: Samba box as WINS server. "Log on to Windows NT

No Printing for you
Just setup Fedora 7, Samba is sharing files for Windows XP users, Samba is sharing printers too - the user's can add new printers to their XP machines, but when they try to print they get various messages, (Including no message at all) and no printouts. Remote printing can be done by a Mac, using lpr printing. Also local users can print using lpr. Have included my smb.conf file.

Can someone tell me why this is happening and also, why are authorized users not able to log in? Here's the content of my smbusers file: root = administrator admin apache = fred nobody
