nmbd won't start 3.6.24
I have an odd situation: nmbd will not start. This is samba 3.6.24, freshly compiled, running on a Raspberry Pi V2, 1Gb ram, quad-core, etc. smbd starts, and I can connect to the server my Mac and from an Android device, haven't tested Windows. ./nmbd -D does not start nmbd. I've tried starting ./nmbd -i -d10 to no effect, it returns immediately to the console, no hang or stall. No

nmbd log error - register_name_response rejected?
Hello all, I'm in the process of moving over my Samba server (using LDAP). I believe everything is functioning correctly, except for this error I get when nmbd starts. Looking back at my old server, it was apparently doing this as well... so it may not even affect needed functionality. Still, I'd like to figure out why it's happening! If anyone has an idea, please let me

I have been using Samba w/out any problems what so ever for the longest time, but today, I cannot connect to the linux box (shows up in network neighborhood as 'LINUXSERVER'), but when I try to connect from a win2K machine (which normally connects w/NO problems). Here is the output from /var/log/messages (appears the problem is in smbd) May 23 11:34:14 fileserver nmbd[1423]: [2002/05/23

I have tried all the stuff in diagnostics.txt and have searched the archives but am still stuck. I have tried to gather some useful info, in the hopes that some on this list will be able to figure this out. Thanks in advance. Here are the results of some of the

nmbd logging in 3.0.6 ?
Due to a config typo, I could not find any log.nmbd og log.smbd. When I realized my own error, I was able to establish the log.smbd when starting the daemon with the -l (or --logfile) parameter. This, however, works only for smbd - nmbd seems to ignore the mentioned parameter totally. Anyone else having a similar experience ? Cheers, Joern.

SAMBA 3.0.22 unusual nmbd spawning
Hi, we had upgraded our SAMBA PDC from 3.0.14 to 3.0.22 on a Gentoo system. Now we have problems with peculiar spwaning of too many "nmbd" processes. In smb.conf WINS support is activated, so I would expect two nmb processes. But as you can see in the process list, during SAMBA is running after some minutes another nmbd child is spawned. I tracked down the problem to one example: We

Hello I'm running Samba 3.6.6 on a Linux host on a LAN connected to the Net, with my ADSL modem acting as firewall/router so as to keep local services like Samba unaccessible from the Net. Still, I wanted to check if it's safe to have nmbd reachable from 0.0.0.0 on UDP137/138: ~# netstat -tunlp Active Internet connections (only servers) Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address

Samba4 beta8: samba daemon doesn' t start nmbd daemon !
Hi anybody. I use Samba4 beta8 as AD DC. But also I need fully working file server with showing it at neighborhood. In Samba4 beta6 I run samba as main daemon, then nmbd that server could be showed at neighborhood. But in beta8 doc is written: "When running an AD DC, you only need to run 'samba' (not nmbd/smbd/winbind), as the required services are co-coordinated by this master

Implications of the "-i" switch to s/nmbd ...
Hi, (3.0.21b, OpenBSD -current) I'm trying to get the smbd and nmbd processes to run under daemontools and to log to multilog. Using the -F -S switches should work, and is widely cited in google searches, but logging to multilog stops shortly after the daemons start. The last message that goes to multilog is standard input is not a socket, assuming -D and from then on logging goes to the

nmbd over ppp
hello everyone. I don't have a network, but I'm trying to get my friend to dialin and use my shares that I have provided via smb. Now I have a big prob with nmbd and ppp. Under Interfaces I can specify ppp* 192.168.0.2 , which is the ip that the dialin user is assigned and yet still nmbd shuts down showing an error that no interfaces were found. # route -n Kernel IP routing

Repeating entries in log.nmb and log.smb
I'm running Samba on my Sun ultra 1 with Solaris 2.6 and have noticed that my log.nmb file is growing tremendously. In addition, my log.smb is also growing but not quite as fast. The log.nmb has the following entries repeating every few seconds. Since 3/18/99, my log.nmb file has grown to be 22mb. [1999/06/14 09:13:14, 1] nmbd/nmbd.c:(672) Netbios nameserver version 2.0.0 started.

If we use vfork, can the smbd and nmbd work rightly?
Hi All, I has been trying to port the Samba package to uClinux. But our uClinux toolchain doesn't support the fork() call. I must replace the fork with vfork. If we use vfork, the smbd and nmbd can not work rightly. both samba-3.0.32 and samba-3.0.2a have the question. In samba/source/smbd/server.c, the function open_sockets_smbd(), creates a child process and a parent process. Both these

Nmbd question...
Hi! I'm a Linux beginner, and I installed Suse Linux 8.2 to my computer. I installed Samba too... Then I configured it... I wrote in to the web browser: http://localhost:901. Swat came in, and I configured things what I read in a Samba book. Then I started smbd, and nmbd. Smbd worked, but nmbd won't start! I made a probe to write in the "smbd -D" command. It worked... But by
